Of course, North Korea's elimination may have something to do with their abysmal training budget. They trained at a public gym in Johannesburg because they couldn't afford anything else. It may also have something to do with the fact that there is no food in their country. Or that, you know, they suck at soccer.

Idk...they held their own against Brazil (the #1 rated team) pretty well. Granted, Brazil was taking them entirely too lightly and really let their defense go in the last 15 minutes or so, but seriously. ...It was Brazil. And they scored on them.

Further proof that Kim Jong-Il is an absolute moron.

Well, the US is moving on. Another disallowed goal that should've been good, and last-minute heroics by Landon Donovan...whew.

So I'm currently watching Japan vs. Denmark, and most of my thoughts consist of mental commentary on the general attractiveness of soccer players. I mean, I don't have anywhere near enough knowledge of the sport* to comment on either team's strategy or skill, so my mind has gone to its default state. Y helo thar, Mr. Honda.

I'll admit, soccer is an interesting sport to watch. And not just for the athlete's physiques. In my ignorance, I had assumed that watching a 90 minute game where scores were typically less than three would be just watching a lot of kicking. How wrong I was; I was on the edge of my seat the entire US vs. Algeria game.

*I mean, other than knowing that you're supposed to get the ball into the net, and you can't use your hands unless you're the goalie or the French national team.

This tickled me so much that every time I think about this I start grinning. Thank you.

And the US doesn't. If only they'd played the first half (and extra time) like they did the second half, the US might be in the quarterfinals. Now Ghana gets to get steamrolled by Uruguay.

And America is eliminated.

I guess now I'm going for Germany and Japan

It's not that funny because it's so soberingly true.

I think it's most likely that Japan gets taken out by Paraguay, but whoever wins between both of them will most likely lose against Spain or Portugal in the QFs.

Every World Cup needs the unexpected team. I think Japan can be that team. I don't count Ghana as a surprise, because I fully expected an African side to get to the last 8 in the first African World Cup. Chile is going to be dangerous, too, if they can get by this match. I do think the Netherlands has got the best shot.

Well, Japan lost, but I can't say I'm surprised. Although I am surprised that they were able to hold Paraguay off for so long, I honestly was not expecting it to go to a penalty shootout. Oh well.

Go Brazil.

Even though I'm pretty sure Brazil will breeze through this, this is how I feel too. Even though there have been a bunch of unexpected stuff this year, looking at the final 8 teams left, it's still pretty much stuff you'd expect.

Well if you need me, I'll be over there cheering for Ghana 8Db

GO GERMANY

Hopefully they can do well against Argentina. The Argentinian defense is apparently not good though.

Prediction time

Netherlands vs Brazil: Brazil
Uruguay vs Ghana: Uruguay

Brazil VS Uruguay: Brazil, though Uruguay COULD pull out a good game

Argentina vs Germany : DUETSCHLAND!
Paraguay vs Spain: Spain

Germany VS Spain: Germany

Brazil VS Germany: An epic match this would be. Two of the best teams this year... I'd of course have to say Germany due to one of my main nationalities being German and Italy being out, but Brazil winning would be likely.

Speaking of Brazil, they get the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympics.. not sure what to think of that.
I want a World Cup in Canada. D:

Well, okay. Either Brazil, Netherlands, or Argentina, those are my top three picks. Also, they've only won 5 times, just saying.

I want Germany and Netherlands to win this.

But if I had to pick a South American team to win, Uruguay for the hell of it.

I stil think the Netherlands is going to win the whole thing. They'll probably have to take on Spain in the championship to do it, which would be a phenomenal match.

Nike better NOT make a "Write The Future" commercial with Wesley Sneijder or I'll be f*cking pissed (see Brazil and Robinho).

And Brazil has lost, now it gets interesting. My aunt has friends who are living in the Netherlands or are from the Netherlands, so I bet they're pretty excited.
