Finally saw the movie. It's really good, being funny and all. Always refered to the church as "The Magesterium," but if you knew what to look for, you could tell who they meant.

It's not a big anti-god book or movie, so you bible-beaters aughta be happy about that.

Iorek= *_* . He is a freaking Polar Bear wearing big metal armor. Totally. Awesome.

My only complaints are that they cut off the ending to make it a "Happy ending." It stops just after they destroy Bolvanger. (in the movie, the Svalbard bears scene and the Bolvanger scene were switched around, so Bolvanger happens last.)

They never show Lord Asrael (SPOILERS AHEAD! DO NOT HIGHLIGHT IF YOU DON'T WANT THE BOOK SPOILED!!!) Kidnap Roger and use him to power his dimensional gateway device. I mean, come on! If they make a second movie, (the Subtle Knife) will start with Roger dying, and then people will be all mad 'cause "A kid died in the first five minutes!"

BTW, what sort of accent do the gyptians have? They all sound like Hagrid from the Harry Potter movies.

I gotta say, it's so much fun to watch you all spaz out about a children's movie. Aww, now you're gonna say the asked Steve to leave Blues Clues because he didn't donate enough to the church?

As for the openmindedness thing, we don't have anything else. It's part of the human system, it whaat keeps us from turning back into monkeys.

And did you guys ever think for once that maybe there's a person out there that had an open minded life an you had an open minded life and you two saw different things but thought they were right and someone said one of you was right and one was wrong and yet you had to figure it out for yourself....

Would you be afraid to say you're wrong? If you were wrong, what would you do? what if you were right?

ROFL If this children's movie can generate this much controversy, I'm DEFINITELY seeing it. You know what was an awesome movie? Stigmata. LMAO Sorry, I couldn't resist. Don't kill me. By the way, didn't Xenosaga have to do with killing God? And why does anyone want to kill God? I mean, if it's an alternate universe where God is evil (and killable), then I suppose it makes sense. But in reality, he's such a nice chap. Why people be hatin'? God gives you lots of stuff. Oh yeah and love, right.

You know, I find it interesting that The Matrix never sparked this much controversy. I mean, it basically said that Jesus was the One, which is from Buddhism, which has a very different concept of God and Jesus than Fundamentalism. No one seems to care while Neo was beating the s*** out of Lucif--I mean Smith.

Just want to put my two cents in here.

Even if I could get past the fact that the author has said his whole purpose was to 'kill God in the minds of children' I could NOT get past the fact that, in the third book... well I'll put it in mini text because it's kinda inapropriate.
in the third book from what I've heard in order for them to 'clense Eden' or whatever, these (14 year old) kids have SEX in Eden
tell me, is that just WRONG or am I mistaken on my facts or what?
to me it borders on child pornogrophy, because again from the news I have heard he goes into quite a bit of detail on the subject.

Okay, you've said how important it is, can you please define it exactly now?

I didn't think that they did... I thought it was just confessing their love and all that stuff. And no, it doesn't go into any detail after he mentioned that they kissed.

ah, ok, that makes me feel a little better (unles he still implies that they did it). Confessing love is one thing, but THAT is a little extreme at their age no? (even if it's not uncommon in this day and age)

Most of what I know comes from what I've heard from my parents who have been reading reviews, and from what they have said about the author.

Hey, don't trust what other people say, especially on a controversial subject like this. I can say for sure that what some editorials say is different from what others say.

Well, come on. It's two little kids saying they like each other in the movie. In literally the last two minutes, and it's really cute. Heck, I did that when I was little!

As for the ending, I'm abit gld that they did it now, becuase if they gave a kid's story an unhappy ending, it wouldn't do too well and would be taken too seriously, and if they changed the endling, people would be raving on about how it was changed. Strategically, it has the least net loss...

Unfortunately, if they make "The Subtle Knife," (the sequel to "Northern Lights," or "The Golden Compass" as we americans call it) into a movie, they're gonna start out with them Killing off Roger, and ending with Lyra getting taken by the Specters. Actually, if they cut off the last scene from that novel and stuck it onto the begining of the Amber Spyglass movie, I wouldn't mind too much. Ya know?

I actually want to see this movie. It's sad, because my friend isn't ALLOWED to see it. It looks good, and she's discouraging me to see it. Either way, I am. Let everyone pout about it.. it's just a fictional movie, it isn't real. I'm not bashing anything or anyone, but try and keep an open mind, you know?

Hey, remember the Harry Potter dislikers? Ha.. just because it has witchcraft. Anyone think differently now about that?

But that's what movies are made for, different people have different tastes. Not all movies are going to fit everyone's likings.

I found out: IT'S CALLED FICTION. It's not like a pastor's going to watch this and think, "I'm going to defeat Christianity with a bunch of cats and polar bears!"

If the Church believes if this fiction is blasphemy, they can think "Talladega Nights" and "Walk Hard" is blasphemy...because both like Jesus, just to an extent: Ricky likes the Christmas Jesus, saying that we should ban that film because he's choosy on Jesus! Dewey should be banned because he's too close to Johnny Cash! It's a parody! Get over it!
