I could *borrow* my cousin's webcam...
But I think I actually know some people on here so I'm not just gonna hand out video files.

might be much easier to get a tv tuner card and go from there. I have one and I could do the job, unfortunately, my capture card is on the fritz (when using the card, it will lockup the computer at random intervals).

anyways, If i manage to find a solution to this little dilemma by then, I will let you know.

I have a capture card, it works fine (well, it seems to have spawned a no-sound issue right when I was recording the recent new eps, but that's because of some setting or other and my own fault. I hadn't tested it before then since the last time new eps were on).

Back to my sentence, I have a capture card, it works fine, and I have no idea how to live-stream video using it.

looks promising, but I don't see how it could be possible to actually stream video.

So, as for a homegrown solution: possible, definitely possible, except that mencoder can't seem to encode fast enough to keep up in realtime. So all I've been able to record is the raw stream from streamer.

I will try some more now. You have me intrigued.

how fast is your comp? if its atleast 2ghz you should be good to go for live streaming.

essentially what you want to do is get a hold of "Windows Media Encoder" (free download. google it). and from there you can do a "live broadcast" taking the capture card's audio and video. if you need any help figuring out how to use it, let me know and I will do what I can to help.

i just tested this the other night using my webcam and its built in microphone as the video and audio source. was doing roughly 260kbps, 320x240 video, and 64kbps, stereo audio and despite a low framerate (was avergaing around 15-17fps), the computer was able to keep up. and im running with a 2ghz celeron here. a p4 at the same speed or better should have a much better time at it.

I have 2.26 ghz; but I have Linux, and I don't think there is a Windows Media Encoder for Linux. Like I said, mencoder doesn't seem to be able to keep up...

I will try some stuff *glares at compiler* but if you can give me an easy way to do this, I'm listening. *points to IM addresses*

one thing I can suggest is NSV. while it may not be the easiest method and its not particularly compatible with many players (last I checked it was only cocompatible with winamp and its own activeX control which is of course limited to IE), but its designed for live streaming and I am almost positive there are linux apps for it (seeing as there are plenty of homebrew apps popping up everywhere).

the only other thing I can think of is an attempt to dualboot windows (or just get a spare drive, swap out the linux drive with the spare and install windows on that.

I tried using Windows for TV once, after having a tough time getting it working on Linux... not only were there ads on the side of the screen, the stupid thing didn't even work. At least in linux, viewing worked fine with tvtime. (And recording worked fine after I figured out how to properly use streamer and mencoder... and it'd still work fine except that I screwed my mplayer trying to get a faster encoding method. Which didn't work anyway. *is stupid*)

Yeah, Video footage and computer games is about all Windows is good for.
Otherwise, I'm with Tux and Linux.
What can I say? Tux racer is fun!

meh. I have nothing against linux, I just find myself able to use Windows MUCH better than I am able to use linux.

its like those ads i used to see alot in those pc shopper magazines where they said something along the lines of "its much cheaper to use windows than it is to use linux". case and point, more people know windows than they know linux. so you could literally hire anyone off the street to manage your windows box.

again, nothing against linux here. not wanting to start a flame war or anything. truce. :halo:

But, when I load up a fresh Windows box, I see an "Open Letter" from the maker of Quickbooks informing me that they love to help small businesses... and having several buttons, none of which is "Don't show this again". There are also conflicting security systems, and a crapload of bundled "free" programs.

On a fresh Linux box, you get a lot less.

Windows is cheap to use but sucks...a lot...I agree

Linux is awesome but, at least from what I've heard, it's expensive...and sicne I haven't seen many users around here, looks like it's not as widely spread as WIndows, thus finding the proper repairs for it is apparently hard...

actually, linux is 100% free. but you are right, it is tough finding support for it when things go awry.
