(Unless this is on another forum) Here you can give your praise to a man who lead a major civil rights movement. I dont have much time to be on, so this is all I have to say for now.

I have very great respect for anyone who stands up for their rights or the rights of others. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great man. It sucks that some idiot had to decide he didn't like him and kill him.

I believe that Mr. King was a true hero in American history. :D

I'm not American

I'm not black

I've never had my civil rights violated

And I LOVE Martin Luther King - he is a historical figure I feel deserves respect from all democratically-minded and good-spirited people around the world. A hero, a saint, a good man.

And one time I saw a fantastic documentary about how King, had he not been assasinated, could have become the first Black President. That would have been a momentous occasion.

Hmm.. thank you for saying that. But even if he did become the first black President (we probably won't have one for a LONG time..) he'd be assassinated anyway... it's really very sad. I hate how people are like that. Hating other people just based on the color of their skin or where they're from. It's so idiotic! Oh yeah, in case you didn't know, I'm African-American (or "American of African descent", whatever you want to call it) and I've never felt an iota of racism or sexism, for that matter.

And now, for the heck of it, I'll post the African-American national anthem, "Lift Ev'ry Voice and Sing":

Lift every voice and sing
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the listening skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us,
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun
Let us march on till victory is won.

Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chastening rod,
Felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
Yet with a steady beat,
Have not our weary feet
Come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears have been watered,
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past,
Till now we stand at last
Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.

God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
Thou who has brought us thus far on the way;
Thou who has by Thy might
Led us into the light,
Keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, Our God, where we met Thee;
Lest, our hearts drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee;
Shadowed beneath Thy hand,
May we forever stand.
True to our GOD,
True to our native land

He just. Rocked.

Though of course I didn't know him, he was a great man.
What will you remember me for?

A brilliant tribute YDV!

And as an aside, in the docu-rama I watched, President King still got assasinated (after a trip to a school!), but not after he'd overhauled civil rights and gotten America's economy on track.

I just love those 'what-ifs' of history.

And racism, in all it's forms is detestable!

Dr. King was a great man and he definitly deserves all the repect we give him and more. He fought bravely for equal rights and his actions made a leap in our history. Anyone who doesn't resepct him should go to hell....

We watched a video of the "I Have a Dream" speech in World Studies today. I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing before (I've seen like text of it) and the teacher asked if anyone had seen it more than 5 times. Like two people raised their hands and he said that that was disappointing and that it was the kind of thing that people need to see over and over again. I thought that was interesting.
