A manga called Fruits Basket

Postby oddsgrlfriend » Tue Mar 28, 2006 7:40 pm

Has anyone read a manga called 'Fruits Basket'? If you are wondering what manga is it's basically Japanese comic books. 'Fruits Basket' is about an orphan named Tohru who is taken in by the Sohma family and discovers their mysterious family curse relating to the Chinese Zodiac. It's really great! If who've never read it you should althought I wouldn't recomend it for kids under 13 because of language. I like Yuki. Strangely I also like Odd who is similar to Yuki. Both are scrawny and have purple hair. And Yuki's name is similar to Yumi's...deja vu!

I was told by my friend to watch the anime. So she gave me the first six eps on dvd. Its very feminine, but there were moments that i coudlnt help laugh at.
Someday i might read the manga but right now i got plenty to read.

Theres no language in the anime from what ive seen.
swearing or "language"......one step closer to peaking my interest in this manga :)

I've only read the first two volumes (I get #3 tomorrow). There were just your common swear words. Nothing to bad. What's the bunny guys name? I always forget it. Moiji? No. Momiji? No. Darn it! Oh well. I know who you're talking about.

SPOILER!!! Momiji is possesed by the spirit of the rabbit. He is 15 years of age although he looks much younger. He wears girl clothing although is not a cross dresser because he does wear guy clothes sometimes. He is very hyper and optamistic. He adores Tohru and always worries about her safety. Momiji is half German (his mother) and half Japanese (his father - a Sohma). At birth his mother rejected him. She had Hatori erase her memories of Momiji and she now thinks he is one of the other Sohma children. His father owns the shop where Tohru works and often goes in to help her. Momiji also has a younger sister (in second grade) named Momo. Momo has trouble speaking Japanese but Momiji adores her. Although he is rejected by his mother he still watches over her to make sure no harm comes her way.

I read the first couple mangas a while back, and I own the entire 4-disk anime set. xDD

(Hey... I got it for Christmas! Honest!)

That said, it's really just kind of "okay" in my eyes. There are things I like about it, and other things I don't really like about it... Overall, though, it's not bad.
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

But I do love dancing.

That is such a cool anime (well, I've seen half of it, anyway). Never read the manga though.

And what's best of all is that its plush toys, key chains, and wall scrolls all sell really really well when we're at anime conventions. Heck, our Momiji plushes basically sold themselves, and it was hard as heck just to get more to sell.

I never liked the manga, however the anime was enjoyable. I borrowed it from Erynn and spent an entire weekend watching it xD

I love Fruits Basket! I read like half of the first one while at my friend's house. (She has most of them) I can't wait to borrow them from her to read! *_* I like the cat (Kyo?) and the rat (Yuki)...I can't choose between the two... :D

Kyo and Kagura make a cute couple. Tohru and Yuki however...I can't really support them or hate seeing them as a couple. I'm jelous that she gets Yuki. She's has a bit of a problem choosing between Yuki and Kyo. Who do you guys think Tohru will pick?

Kagura? (I've only read half of the first book) Tohru is like me, she has a hard time choosing between the two...i have no idea though...

Like I said, I haven't read the manga. But in the anime, Kagura basically alternates between "Kyo, I love you so much and want to be the perfect wife" (during which Kyo is constantly telling her to go away) and "You dirty little! I'm going to beat you up because I love you so much" (during which Kyo is seriously hurt by her). And then she goes back to being nice and cute, and sad that she hurt him like that. In fact, I think it's shown that she honestly doesn't even remember doing it.

Sounds just like her. In the manga, she alternates between *_* Kyo I love you! and Yuki I love you! *_* So yeah...are the anime movies of it any good? If they are, I'll have to keep a lookout for them...

I love this series, because I enjoy how lighthearted it can be while also carrying the darker themes. I prefer the manga over the anime, simply because I found the anime ending unsatisfactory (well..that's no shocker considering the anime cuts off after the equivalent of volume 6 of the manga...). The series itself is excellent!

Konichiwa enemyxwithin! (I'm just learning Japanese). The anime is alright but I like the manga better. They take to much out in the anime.

Don't worry you spelled Tohru correctly. Kyo...is funny. Yuki...is sweet. I can't really deside and it gets harder as the manga continues. THAT'S WHY FANFICTION RULES! Kill Tohru and there's no problem! :D
