Dr. Who doesn't air much in the US, however a British internet friend of mine gave me a link to an episode on Youtube, I watched it on the inside. It kinda went over my head... something about a hospital being sent to the moon and space rhinos and this creepy old vampire chick or something like that. But I did kinda like it. Here's a little excerpt:

The Doctor shows some nurse chick inside the Police Box thing
Chick: It's bigger on the *Doctor begins mouthing her words as she says them* inside than it is on the outside!

However, it's not a show I make time to watch... because I don't even know if it's on regularly.

UGH.

EVERYBODY (adults, children, monkeys etc.) I KNOW IS OBSESSED WITH IT.

And I'm not.

>.>

It seems kinda stupid in some places. The finales can be good though. Yesterday's episode was creepy. o_O *taptaptap-tap, taptaptap-tap, taptaptap-tap*

All I know about it is that it's British, it's science fiction-y, and it's been around forever. And ever. And ever. X3

Recently, it surpassed the Star Trek franchise for longest running science fiction series. Grrr.

Yes. I am a Trekkie.

I read one of the books, called "Doctor who and the planet of Gold" or something like that.

It had Cybermen trying to blow up Voga or Voba, the remnants of the Planet of Gold (because Cybermen are alergic to gold)
with specialized Cobalt Bombs.

I'm trying to think of a non-Red Dwarf British Si-Fi to compare it to. I'm not getting anything. Someone want to help me out? Teebs? I'm sort of sheltered from British Sci Fi's. The last good Brit Com that PBS had was Wooster and Jeeves, and it got pulled off the air a long time ago.

I've been meaning to watch this for a while. And now I've finally caught the first few episodes of the new series.
Yeah, it's good. There's a reason it is Trope Overdosed.

It's surprisingly similar to Scooby Doo, except with more plot and less survivors.

The Doctor: I'm sorry. I'm so sorry...
Donna (or other female companion): Would you get over yourself for a Sonic Biscuit?
The Doctor: (suddenly ^_^) Right, then, where were we? Ah, yes...Barcelona!

I hear this is popular in Britain, but nigh-inaccessible here.

Well, if Sci-Fi would give it proper rerun cycles instead of showing low-budget CGI fantasy flicks on the weekends, that may not be the issue. As it stands, BBC America is a Yankee's best way to go for Who.

And if you're showing low-budget films, would it kill you to bring back MST3K?

I saw an episode. It had cybermen in it.

I was not impressed, sad to say. Perhaps I just got a bad episode, but I didn't like it. The Cybermen looked like C-3P0/Iron Giant hybrids, and were quite small-minded. Plus, the doctor was able to talk them out of world domination. DUDE! As unorthodox as that is, you don't talk down the machines. you send Aelita into the tower and deactivate it to defeat machines, Right?

Which episode?

In New Who, the Doctor always tries to talk down the monster, but it hasn't worked against the Cybermen from what I remember. Only ever worked once, I think... against the Vashta Nerada.

I dunno which episode. I came in halfway through. THey were on earth, and there was a big zeplin, and the Cybermen were turning people into Cybermen to help solve their sickness or something, and the head Cyberman (men?) plummeted to his potential death after falling off a rope ladder from the zeplin. I then switched to watching a show on Volcanos, as I was merely killing time until Battlestar Galactica came on.
