I've been going through a lot of webcomic sites lately, and it seems that they're all doing something to help those who lost homes and/or families in our recent disaster.

While we all b**** about gas skyrocketing, and such, we havent really taken the time to consider what they lost. Sure we know what they lost, but we dont even have room to complain about anything. 1000's dead...homes wrecked...people starving. This is whats happening as we live out our daily lives.

We take so much for granted that we dont even know. Even a cup of water someone would kill for down there. And it just kinda ticks me off how I hear so many people with their issues, when they dont even have 1/100 of problem like this to deal with (Im guilty of this as well).

I think we should all take our time to pay our respects to those who were lost in this tradegy. We may not be able to pay cash, or...we actually may be able too. But the very least we can do is hope that people can be reunited with their familes again, and that those who are still alive can find a home.

As I keep thinking about it, I cant help but feel bad that Im able to sit here and just post away while I sit at my computer. Just remember guys, no matter what you have, be thankful for it. Some people dont have even a shirt to put on their back right now. Even if I had crappy aol again, I'd even thank god for that.

Its times like this that really bring the nation together. And as history shows us, its happened before. Think of 9/11, thats just one example of when our nation started to pitch in. Its kinda wierd how many lives have to be lost, just for our nation to be little more together.

I definitely agree with you, Vili. Some of us have barely even thought about it beyond, 'oh, that's sad'. I've seen some pictures of the bodies floating in the floodwater there... and it's really disturbing, because it's real. There have been other things too, equally heart and gut-wrenching... and it all just makes me think even more that we really don't even know how real it is. And that we've still got all that we have... to complain would be more than selfish and ignorant.

Unfortunately, the last bit about how this has brought the nation together isn't especially true; while those of us who were unaffected are all at least understanding of the tragedies that have occured, the looting down south really isn't cool. 9/11 brought us all together, yes, but this seems to have just accented a part of us that we all wish wasn't there.

I mean, I guess I can understand that some people were stealing because they literally HAD to, but some people were just doing it because they could. That's pretty depressing, IMO.

I've seen a Cat. 3 hurricane. I've never seen anything like the pictures I've seen in New Orleans.

Then again, I don't know what Monterey was like when Gilbert hit it (and it had strentghened to a Cat. 5 by then) and I only vaguely remember the pictures of the aftermath of Andrew's hit on Miami.

The big question is: Should they rebuild New Orleans or should they start over somewhere else? Rebuilding there looks like setting up the pins to have them knocked down again...

I feel bad for the victims of Katrina. I would definately do my part and give a little when the opportunity arises. Just about the only time ive experienced a hurricane was when George struck Puerto Rico. Luckily, my house wasnt damaged but there were a lot of struck down trees laying around and my boat didnt survive.

My friends and I were watching the news today in our band class. And our director asked us what we wanted to do to help down there. So everyone in our school is bringing $1 to school tommorrow. And that right there is already about $700. And as we were sitting there in a moment of silence this morning, I started thinking about how good I have it and how bad I feel that I am in such a good condition here. Our band director asked us if we could do one thing right now for these people, what would it be? And my best friend Lela said that she wished she could go down there and bring the people water bottles. I said amen to that and everyone else did too. It's so awesome how caring my friends are. When one of us is sad or hurt, we are always by eachothers side. I just wish everyone in the world could be like that.

I was in all those hurricanes that kept bashing Florida last year, and I have to tell you. All of my neighbors all united and helped eachother out. Everyone that had generators, let others use it too. And the people that had pools, they were nice enough to let us kids who wer very hot go swimming. Hurricane Frances, left us with no power for 21 days. It was very bad. But we all helped eachother rebuild our houses, and there was no looting around where I lived at all. I suspect the biggest reason for that is because Jeb Bush was governor though.

What really awes me is how Sri Lanka gave money to us. Even though it wasn't that much, it was still very touching. I think it's so awesome that all of us have empathy for the people that are living in this situation. And how easily a whole way of life could be ruined in less than 24 hours. I do wish the lotters would stop looting though because soon people are going to stop giving money. And then the people who aren't doing anything won't get what they need. And that would be very sad. :wahh:

May the dying die fast, and the living live long...
May the pain subdue and lay the foundations for glee
May those that die, died, or will die, die knowing that, if life is fair and reason exists in this tainted world, nothing with such magnitude will happen again.

May those that were chose to live know that others were chosen to die, and forever live in gratitude.

My school is going to begin collecting food and clothing to ship down there sometime this week. I've been watching the news, and they've been showing clips of people who are separated from thier family members. It's really heartbreaking to see all those people who are begging for their loved ones to contact them. It really makes me grateful that I know where my family and friends are right now.

The saddest thing about this whole situation is that the govenor is handling this all wrong and doing a horrible job with everything. President Bush is about to take power away from her because she won't give it to him. And if he has to do that, it will be very bad. Very bad. People are dying and have died just because of this woman, and yet people are blaming it all on President Bush. Thats just sad. It just goes to show ya how people in this world don't know how to handle situations. It's pretty sickening actually.

Actually, unless I can actually see someone, or hear his or her voice, I never assume that he or she is alive. Not even if he or she is in the next room.

BTW, is Fats Domino still missing?

I'm saddened when I hear people scoffing at everyone who stayed behind, saying things like "Well why didn't they just leave?" Some people couldn't leave, they didn't have cars or any other means of transportation. I suppose public transportation would have gotten them somewhere, but it would be hard to escape that way unless they got on a greyhound bus or something (which costs money, so that may not even have been an option...). Sometimes I just want to smack people....

True, but none of my relatives was in New Orleans at the time, so I at least know that they are safe in that respect. None of them is missing, and that's what important to me right now.

Not when you wrote that, but something may have happened since...

Then again, how do I know that's you? That may be a thug who's just finished strangling you... (this argument doesn't work well with people you don't know IRL because there's nothing tangible to say that you are who you say you are in the first place... and yes, I am paranoid...)

That's where the term "emergency planning" comes into play... If you're in the Caribbean, on the Gulf of Mexico, or on the East Coast, you *know* that one of these is going to hit you one day. So you make plans, conduct exercises, have your plans ready by the first of June, and keep them up to date until at least the 30th of November.

"If it keep on rainin', levee's gonna break,
If it keep on rainin', levee's gonna break;
When the levee breaks, we got no place to stay."

Haaaaaa!!

Let me see... Katrina, 11-09, Ivan, Bush, Columbine, n***as, latinos, etc. .. the USA isn't a safe place to live anymore.

Although, I just CNN and they confirmed that the water from the flooding has E. Coli on it... man, that's so bad to hear... damages, people who couldn't got access to medicine yet, people who lost everything...

Another thing... Bush couldn't do anything to prevent it. Other countries like Cuba could had handle this better, and with less budget... the consequences of a man who wants to govern the world with nuclear weapons and spy everybody with satellites...

This isn't about blame. Yes, the U.S. was completely caught of guard by the extent of this, probably because (as 9-11 proves) our communication skills between different government agencies sucks royally (pardon my French). But until President Bush sent the army in, the state was basicly floudering, they got nothing done. Assign blame later, right now let's be thankful for those who are alive and mourn the dead.

Listen, we can sit here and talk about who did'nt do this or why the U.S took so long. But in the end it's no one's fault, welcome to earth. things like this happen and will happen forever. It's nature at work, and you can't stop it from happening.

I'm glad you guys are going out and talking about this, I think about all of the kids out there who may even be members missing, but then are still
alive, and you guys are still alive. Now I only hope that people will use this to better there lives and not be a slave to other people.

It's sad that it takes something like this to get the U.S. back together again. It's also sad that people are thanking GOD becuase of this, you sould thank him EVERYDAY YOU WAKE UP So when this is all over and everybody has gone back to rebuilt thier lives, remember that you are just 1 of a billion on this little planet, and people need to help poeple and not hurt them.

So, if want to help out find a place that is taking food or meds and ask how. I'm am so proud that you guys really care about other people, that's rare in today's young people. Good job Vili, God bless you

Just to make it clear Bush was blamed for not funding the building of stronger levis,
