Wisdom Teeth

Postby DarkestSoul X21 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 2:55 pm

Right now i'm having my wisdom teeth growing in and god they hurt. I'm just wondering for the people who already had their wisdom teeth removed give me some advice. What is the best way to calm down the pain and when you have to go to the dentist and pull them out, how do they do it.

Well after I got mine out, I lived on Chicken noodle, Ramen Noodle soups... But the biggest secret to relive the pain is milkshakes. However once you get them removed you won't be allowed to eat anything solid, also to keep your mouth clean, rinse it with warm salt water... I know it sounds gross but it feels really good on your gums... When you are allowed to eat warm or hot soups soothe your mouth, also the cold milkshakes feel awesome as well...

Oh and Pain killers help tons lol...

I hope this advice helps, keep me updated on how it goes...

Good luck...

There really isn't much you can do about the pain. I'd look for some Ambisal(sp), that helps somtimes.

I don't know what they do when they pull teeth, sorry.

.....

Erm, I have a related question. Does anyone know what happens during teeth removal surgery? It's not the same as getting them pulled. (I have to have my wisdom teeth removed before they come in.)

My mom had that. I think they cut open your gums and remove the teeth before they pop out of your gums. Than after that you might have to wear a huge tape thing to keep your jaw not moving. If that happens, you have to only eat liquid things for the next couple of weeks after the sugery. I just noticed something. I never had sugery in my life so far and i'm 16.

But the good news is you won't feel much pain after the operation. If you keep your jaw not moving. There shouldn't be much pain.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, it took me five minutes under steadily increasing amounts of anesthetics to knock me out. Thus, when I (briefly) woke up after it was all over, I had no clue what was going on. Then, I slept. For 36 straight hours. And I woke up feeling slightly sore and nothing more. My sister had a lot of pain, though. So, I recommend sleeping the after-effects of the wisdom teeth operation away. Worked for me great.

I heard about the wiskey thing, I think Ibprophen or Naproxen works better then wiskey...

My sister just got hers yanked out.

When I got mine yanked, I was put under for it, and it was not nearly as terrifying as I thought it would be. However, I was on Codine for the next several days after that, so I was a little fuzzy. Shakes, ice cream (melted), noodles, smoothies, and other soft foods are your best friends. Though after you do get your teeth yanked, a few tips.

1) You WILL be fuzzy. Very fuzzy.
2) You WILL swell up and look like a chipmunk. There is nothing you can do to stop the mocking. Just put some ice on it.
3) If you're a girl, there's a good chance Codine will make you throw up. Check with your doctor for more details. Guys are fairly safe, but there's always that chance...
4) If you let your cerial (how the heck do you spell that?) soak in your milk long enough, it will be okay to eat.
5) Get a Water Pik. If you don't know what one is, ask a dentist. And then buy one. Food can get stuck in the holes where your teeth were, so clean them out as best you can. Otherwise, they can get infected, swell up, and feel awful.
6) Get a blender and fruit and ice cream BEFORE you loose the teeth. It saves a lot of money on shakes and smoothies if you make your own, rather than rely on Jamba Juice or Steak N' Shake.
7) Yes, potato chips are bad. Don't even think about it.
8. Find a spot in the house and claim it as your own. Make a little nest of blankets and pillows. Get comfy, 'cause you are not moving from there, and you will not want to move, either.

To keep your mouth clean rinse it out with warm saltwater it destroys the bacteria and is not as harsh as listerine.
Naporxen is easier on your stomach then codine. You won't be allowed to eat solid foods for a couple of days so stick to soup, shakes and smoothies and you will be fine... Also if they numb your mouth with novicane do not try eating anything because you could end up chewing your lip and not even know it... Wait until the anesthetic wears off before eating... Keep us up to date...

I think I have to go threw that. My mouth is very sensitive. Plus I'm kinda itchy about the whole knocking out thing. I never had surgery in my life. I know its not the same thing but it just makes me itchy. Do you have any advice what I should do before I go and get knocked out?

Calm down. Be still. Try to help the docs along by breathing deeply, just like you are trying to go to sleep. It'll make that part easier. Don't be tense; it'll just take longer that way.

You don't have to get knocked out, you could always stay awake... That is what I did, but for going under anesthesia just try to relax and trust your doctors they know exactly what they are doing... Try not to think about it or dwell on it too much and you will be fine... I know you will I was and I am a hemaphobic, but I can over come it when I have to.. If you are awake they explain what they are doing... The time I was put under they gave me some kind of gas through a mask and the next thing I knew I woke up and it was done and they were playing Go Greese Lightening on the radio... Don't worry about it, it will only make things worse... Instead try to read or something or watch a movie... Don't think about it... Feel free to PM me if you need to or want to ask questions... I have had a total of nine teeth pulled... So I know what to expect...

It hurts sometimes. But when it does it is quite painful because when they come in they are tearing threw the gums like teething in babies.

Well, I had a tooth that grew on the roof of my mouth pseudo-surgically removed, so I guess I haven't had the same experience.

Still, Sherbet Ice cream is your friend.

Keep the holes in your mouth clean! That's the best advice if you don't want them getting infected...

The human mouth is not like your skin, your mouth heals ten times faster then your your skin, in five to seven days there will be no holes or that is how it was for me...
