Hello lyokofreakians, If you don't know what that says and can't even google translate, the reason is it's the na'vi language, the na'vi are people that live on pandora on the movie "Avatar" there are actually a few websites that will actually teach how to speak na'vi. Who else thinks this will become the next star trek?

http://www.surrealaward.com/avatar/plotlanguage.shtml that guy,and actually lot of people including the cast believe it will be the next klingon. might even have a na'vi hamlet. (Joke since they have a klingon hamlet so that is where the joke lies.)

Wow. I thought all they needed to do for the movie was talk gibberish. I didn't know that it was an actual language that they created.

btw, AVATAR IS AWESOME!!!

Agreed, from here on out i will post daily? about everything i learned that day. So if anyone is wanting to start learning Na'vi following this may or may not help. You can also pm me any questions that i will try to answer.

Any way

1/4/2010 Entry 1- about 9:58
Today I learned the the: Subject,Object, and Verb can go in any order, so i could say(english here) I eat bread. i could say bread eat I, I bread eat, etc.
I learned how to say the 7 vowels: a,e,i,o,u,é, and ì.
I learned the word for brother is tsmukan. and word for sister is tsmuké.

No more data entries for today. I will just use this post for all my updates.

1/4/2010 Entry 2- 10:22
I forgot to add in my previous post, I learned the word for eye(single eye) which is nari
Learned the word for the language a while ago but adding to it now. which is Na'vi which is said "Nah, Vee(long E sound)" that is the language and the people on pandora(planet on the movie)
Learned how to say " Hello. Are you well" which is "Kaltxi. Ngaru lu fpom srat"
Quick update on the "x's" they are only followed by t's, p's, and k's. They are said by closing your throat (without killing yourself or chocking yourself out) and saying the first letter, so it'd be (hold breath) T, (hold breath) P and (hold breath) p. Simple enough?

Ending for now, will update as i remember, tomorrow the entry will be reset to 1, as for the following days.

1/5/2010 Entry 3- 8:58
Today i decided to just keep going in numerical order so if anyone is scanning through they can find it easily by the entry# anyway onto what i learned today. Note i did take a lot of notes, and more than likely more is to be added later tonight.

oh quick note, for anyone who is trying to learn Na'vi and wants to learn the full thing, i can already tell you, if you think French,Spanish,German,Chinese,Arabic, any language, is tough, you might want to go there for some R&R after learning Na'vi.

What double-post? Surely there wasn't a double-post before I came in here and took care of it? Seriously, there's so few opportunities for me to use mod powers.

Anyway, so this is on-topic, I want to see this movie, but I haven't the time. Wah.

Er, have you even tried learning Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Arabic? They're not called the four hardest languages for English speakers for nothing...

hai, Nihongo ga sukoshi hanasemasu. dou xia( note japanese then chinese for dou xia)

This language has a free word verse, clicking noise, and also silent letters in most words, 7 vowels. and even is still being created so it will more than likely have harder words.

Basic Japanese may seem easy, but as you go up in levels, it becomes less of a problem of grammar than one of nuance. A student beginning in that language will have little to no chance of getting anywhere in the country itself with just the knowledge they have. I can't speak for Korean, Arabic or Chinese, but as someone who's almost fluent in Japanese, I can tell you now that it is not easy.

Swedish has 8 vowels, yet it's a piece of cake compared to others. English has silent letters, too. And words and letters don't constitute an entire language--you have to take into account the grammar structure, different speech patterns for males and females and so on, the cultural background of the language, and so many other factors. Having hard vocabulary doesn't say much on its own. Vietnamese is incredibly hard to pronounce, yet it's not considered a "super hard" language. Heck, even English has its own difficult words.

Plus, if it's still in development, I would hold off on making assumptions like this. :|a

Yeah. While I'm all for constructed languages, I must say I agree with Lani. You shouldn't assume something such as that is "harder" than a language that you may not even fully understand. Each language has its own merits, things that are harder than others as well as easier than others. Also may I add that natural languages are considerably harder than constructed ones in that they do contain nuances and cultural references that could only occur in naturally occurring language, whereas constructed languages are created and have not been building for thousands of years. :|

I really do encourage you though, conlangs are fun because translators don't work on them. ;D Just, y'know, assumptions are bad etc.

Also, Avatar is a kick*ss movie. :D

True each language has a upside and downside, also here is something to compensate for my rather slow postings. This is where i learned most of the Na'vi i know now. TheNaviProfessor

Okay i know things have been really slow, i'm updating tomorrow however,

Didn't like it.

Yeah, I said it. The effects were excellent, as expected, but man oh man, was the story boring and cliche.

And I'm somewhat disappointed that the Na'vi never shouted, "HEY!! LISTEN!!"
