Only a TV movie, but still.

HE IS NOT WORTH ALL THE FAME HE GETS.

I would be lying if I didn't say some of his videos made me chuckle. But he is far too overrated.

If any internet series deserves to have a film, it's Friday Night Cranks. Volcanoman: The Movie? Do want.

* Fred Figglehorn, a character created by Lucas Cruikshank

Also known as http://www.youtube.com/user/fred .

And I can understand it. He's popular with the tweenage set Nickelodeon's trying to target, the channel clearly sees some sort of potential with him, and he's already immensely widespread, which to them would be like a license to print money from his *looks* 1,943,559 subscribers.

And look at it this way - if Nickelodeon can milk Mr. Lucas successfully, then that might open the door to more adaptations of internet sensations. I'll be over here hoping for an adaptation of Gunnerkrigg Court...

And now I'm starting to watch his videos. Thanks a lot.

Also, I find it funny/disturbing that all of his profile comments consist of people pleading for him to subscribe to them so that they can get more hits on their own pages.

That's a very good upside. I shall join you.

That being said, I hate Fred. He's not funny, he's just obnoxious. However, I know that that is exactly what the target demographic Nick is, well, targeting, likes. So good for them.

Nickelodeon should have instead made a live-action Captain Underpants movie.

Come on, that'd be awesome... it certainly deserves a movie adaption more than Fred.

I can't think of the name of the video, but remember that viral video of the news clip where some inner city family had his house broken into and the brother was trash talking the perp through the TV, and then they made a remix of it...
anyway, that song reached the top 100, and the guy is getting his own comedy central show. I'm really exited to see where this new idea of scouting people for hollywood based on youtube popularity goes.
In some respects it's great, because before you even start the person has a huge fan base...but who knows how hard it would be to work with an untrained actor on the set.
but this opens up acting as a career to the average user.

Only if they can do it better than they did with the adaptation of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". ...And preferably make it animated because, seriously.

Then again, they're apparently also planning to do a live-action Fairly OddParents movie starring Drake Bell. ...I'm pretty sure Nickelodeon's lost their marbles by this point. >_>;

On the up side, the guy they got to play Crocker is fairly good from some of the footage that was posted. Everything else though, yeah, my faith, it is gone.

But I digress...

You didn't think Nick had lost its marbles after allowing the Avatar: the Last Airbender travesty to get released?

Enh...I always felt that was more M. Night Shyamalan's fault, than their's as he had /promised/ to do a faithful interpretation and then...like, didn't. I'd like to think halting the release was impossible for them financially or legally, but you know...when you put it that way...yeah, I probably should have just assumed they'd lost it by then. XD;

Actually, it's looking to not be half-bad.
They showed clips from it at Comic-Con and Crocker's actor's acting is spectacular. Drake's was pretty good too.

Crocker's actor is great, and I have nothing personal against Drake Bell. He's a fair enough actor and I'm sure he'd do his best. But he's not Timmy Turner. He does not have big buck-teeth. And he's not 10 years old. It just doesn't work and reeks of "Let's put a big name star in a movie he's not really suited for."

And making the plot revolve around the idea that Timmy is now in highschool and still has godparents is a little far-fetched (I think animated canon says he loses his godparents at 16 or something?).

Nevermind that the rest of the supposed plot doesn't sound very promising...and I fear how Cosmo and Wanda will look. In the name of all that is animated and sacred, I dearly hope they don't make them look the way the Great Gazoo did in the second Flintstones movie. And yet, I can't see how else they'd be done, other than completely CGI a la the Jimmy/Timmy hours.

Cosmo and Wanda will appear in CGI for the majority of the film but will appear in live-action for a little while.

The reason Timmy is 23 and still has Cosmo + Wanda is apparently because he purposefully kept himself in the 5th Grade to keep them, and the plot will involve him having to choose between staying a kid forever or being with Tootie, who is completely changed (being played by Daniella Monet)

I liked it when I was younger, but after a while it just stated eating itself.

Meh, demographics change. I'm not so sure who they're aiming this movie at, and that why I think it'll be a blemish.

I always found Timmy obnoxious and unfunny. Why people find him or the show appealing, I have no idea.

I don't know. Kids like Fairly Oddparents and girls love Drake Bell. I think it'll make money.

It's times like this when I remember that television studios are run by business majors, not art majors.

This. Just...that plot. Wow. I mean...suspension of disbelief, it is blown to bits. On sooo many things. xD

...By the sound of it, I'd almost go a second round with the ATLA movie than watch that. ...Almost. >_>;

That show isn't that bad
I always found Timmy obnoxious and unfunny. Why people find him or the show appealing, I have no idea.

I can personally say, I don't really watch it for Timmy. I watch it for Cosmo and Wanda (and now Poof because, I'll admit, plot device or no...he is kinda cute X3 ).

Without getting into a whole "What is Art, really?" debate...I think all animation is an art-form in its own right. I mean, really, drawing something or moving something frame by frame, even with the help of computers. That's art. And that's avoiding getting into character design, layout, storyboarding...

It may not be "high" art, or even "fine" art, (or "good" art, if you want to go that route) depending on your definition, but it is still art at its core.

I would argue that the earlier episodes of FOP were more "artsy-er" than the episodes being produced now. The older episodes took a lot more chances with their storytelling and dialogue. They were more "rough", I guess is the word, and the quality of the episodes was better for it, even if the animation wasn't quite "big budget" animation show as it is now.

That's just IMO, though.

Isn't Timmy like the main focus of the show? Cosmo and Wanda are probably better, but that ain't saying much.

The only way I'd force myself to watch a FOP movie would have to involve either Joss Whedon or Quentin Tarantino as the director and that's even pushing it. No way that's gonna happen.

Timmy is technically the "main character" and most of the episodes do revolve around him and his issues, but Cosmo and Wanda are important "pseudo-main characters" and have had several episodes centered on them as well. I mean...the show is called "Fairly OddParents". Not, "Buck-Toothed Kid with Stupid Pink Hat and His Issues". *snickers* It's an ensemble show really, IMO.

...I would laugh if they got either of those directors, and would probably see it just to lol at either director putting their "stamp" or style at work in that verse. It'd still be a terrible movie, but at least I'd be entertained. xD
