Finally, the (voted last year) #1 anime of all time makes it to cartoonnetwork. It was on last night, and it will be on again on Sunday night (check your tv guide or tv guide channel to see when).

It is very good, dont miss it!!!

*enraged squeal* How come no one told me it was on?!? *slaps forehead* I should have known anyway, I get enough anime mags...

And actually, I'm not sure I want to watch it on CN. Just the thought of how much editing they are going to have to do to it, even if it is on [as] makes me cringe. *sigh* Oh well, I'll start taping it....

Well, they do make a good point, lol. The entire series is a giant jumble of religious, psychological, and neurological theories. Not to mention the suicide, twisted symbolism, and various fanservice shots of Misao, Asuka, and of course Rei. And the gore. Let's not forget the gore. I nearly hurled at some of the deaths, it is downright nasty. And the fact that the Children are twisted on so many levels.

But as pure genius as the anime is, I actually prefer the manga. I think that it's deeper, but it is certainly much more sad. A certain person (I won't give names for the sake of spoilers) who only gets maimed in the anime is actually killed in the manga.

If you even MENTION Eva, I will drop whatever I'm doing and partisipate as soon as I can.

Evangelion is one of my great loves of anime. I'll tell you guys straight up that those 26 episodes are a straight MIND SCREW but it's a good kind as you'll see events play out that you'll never seen before. I personally have watched the subtitled version (as I'm not too fond of Shinji's English VA) and have read the manga and I can say with confidence that I KINDA know the entire story. There are a huge amounts of mysteries that will unfold and you will be taken on quite a trippy ride.

Watch with care people. Cause you're about to watch a truly kick butt series.

Indeed. And if you have a question, ask, because from the way it sounds we have several people here who are Eva fanatics, and I'm sure we'd all be willing to shed some light (or give you more questions, as is often the case with this series).

And I don't mind Shinji's English VA too much. Rei's bother's me a bit, her voice is just too....raspy? Quiet? I don't know...Shinji annoys me either way because I tire quickly of his "everyone hates me, I'm useless, I can't do anything" attitude.

No wonder it was voted as the #1 anime of all time. I cant wait to get into the series...and I feel like an anime n00b compared to those who've actually seen it. thank god its on CN, and I cant wait to get them all on tape.

From what I understand, the manga was made after the anime. I like that Shinji has more of a spine in the manga.

Mm. What I like about Evangelion is how utterly broken all the characters are--Asuka's dolls, Shinji's depression, Rei's... well, Rei's Rei, heh. It's too easy to overanalyze the show, though, so I try to keep myself from getting too involved with it.

I'm probably sounding like a complete idiot right now, but our school library has the first six volumes of the manga, and I've read those. It looked sort of interesting, but I wasn't really in the "thinking" mode, and...

Yes, now that that's done... I understand that it's really deep, and a lot of it just went somewhere up here:

When was it on again? I don't think watching it in the early morning would provide much better understanding...

I don't think you can overanalyze this show. Hideki Ano crammed too much into it, every time I watch it I come out understanding a bit more about it. Like, you mentioned Asuka's doll? That, while it symbolizes Asuka to her mother, can also symbolize Rei. Many would say (I am undecided) that it looks a bit like Rei, and remember that Asuka pointedly calls Rei a doll, which does at least get a slight reaction out of Rei. "I'm not a doll."

Ha, nevermind, after that ^ maybe you can overanalyze the show...

I do agree that Shinji has more of a backbone in the manga. He's so...wimpy in the anime, perhaps they were trying to compensate.

What about that one time his testosterone finally kicked in (Splitting of the Breast) - he got really agressive (and everyone started making hormone jokes) and then to prove to Auska he was a manly man charged head-on into a fight and got himself trapped in the Sea of Dirac.

But I agree about the manga - wierd to see such a non-passive Shinji.

But he does it for the approval of others. He doesn't have the guts to stand up and say he doesn't want to do something. Now, I will admit that there are times that are the exception to that rule, such as him first piloting Unit 01 so that Rei doesn't have to. Or when the 4th child's (again, no name for the sake of spoilers) EVA is possessed and Shinji actually tried to defy his father for once in his life. But other than that I have seen precious few examples of Shinji doing anything that he doesn't feel like everyone is pressuring him into. He didn't want to pilot Unit 01, he wanted to crawl under the stairs and hide until either it was over or someone came a killed him (see End of Eva).

The thing about Shinji (as he and Asuka are my favorite pilots while Gendo is my overall favorite character) is that you can't really blame him for being so shy and "spineless." I came across this website written by Strike Friss (Author of th AWESOME fanfic High Learning) and the way he analyzed his character you start to think that the kid is a badass. It's a really good read but I'll warn you there ARE spoiler alerts so you Eva newbies might want to back off.

http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Lights/8305/saabfaq.html

Also being the voice acting junki I am I found another awesome fanfic series Eva-R, which serves as a continuation to the original episodes.

http://www.eva-r.com

Now the biggest thing that sepperates Eva-R from other pieces of Eva fan work is that it was done with the CREATOR'S PERMISSION AND ENCOURAGEMENT! That is wild. Much like the Retelling Series, Eva-R has tons of extra work outside of the main story. Story covers, manga pages and even radioplays. Now here's the wildest thing about the voice acting cast, Eva-R actually got Tiffany Grant (Asuka's English VA) to help out in the production! I can not direct link to the file but listen to "The Spat" which shows a hilarious argument our favorite German pilot has with Toji.

TB3 introduced to me NGE. Along with Hellsing, Teen Titans, Megas XLR, Gundam wing, Outlaw Star (now canceled on UK TV :cussout: ), Big O, and Code Lyoko. Now that he's gone, I can't find any good shows.

NGE is amazing. No need to explain why. It is PURRRRRREEEEEE, raw, unprocessed amazing. The action? ROCK ON! :guitar: The morles and people problems? So ture...but my brain...it hurts :die: . It messes with me. Too much mind boggleing (TB3 knows my 'other term')

But the problem is: TB3 TOOK THE DVD'S! :cussout: :cussout: :cussout: :cussout:
