KingCheez vs. The School Board

Postby KingCheez » Tue May 09, 2006 8:39 pm

So Russian isn't being offered in high school or anything, and it's not already at my junior high, so like, it's lame.

See, the problem: Russia is awesome. I wanna learn Russian. However, it's not a 'practical language' and they're like, about to shut it down at the community college. They're not teaching German either, and if I want to get a degree based in writing, I kinda have to take a foreign language.

So LF, I'm looking for something. Russian lessons. Also, I'm ranting about how cheap our school board is since the referendum failed. We hate you, District *censored, lawl*. :arg:

Of course, I wouldn't be ranting on this if it weren't for the lazy jerks that don't wanna pay more money for better education for children.

So all of you, indirectly, are related to my SHEER RAGE. :arg:

:arg: is also my favorite smilie.

Man, that school board stiinks. Ours stinks too. These same people are our state representatives, our firefirhters, poloce, school principals! Everything! We are ruled by a handful of people! And meanwhile, they kick off all the good teachers and replace the m with the peverted ones with criminal records.

But depriving someone of a foreing language? maan, i got A's in reading, so I had to take one. And I took french because I wanted to understand my grandmother, but she died, so it makes me sad. But not letting someone learn a foreign language? It's like they don't want you to get an education!

And I'm sure there are online things, like MP3's you can follow, or a flash program.

That's the problem with school boards right now..My levy keeps failing, so my school is caught in about the same position as yours. No money, so classes like lanuages are being cut like crazy and all of our options are extremely limited. If you truely have the desire to learn Russian, which you clearly do, then I agree that you should go for some teach-yourself tapes should no other options arise. But I don't know about your high school, but at mine we have to have minimum 2 years of a language that's school-taught, so you may end up having to take a different language anyway.

My school's referendum was crappy, too. My school relied on the state to provide money for it. Recently, my state cut the school budget down to a very low amount. Next year, there won't even be a French class (although that's just 'cause of unpopularity; there are 23 Spanish classes and only one French class). Activities such as Scholastic Bowl costs $200. Originally, there wasn't going to be a yearbook, but now, the Yearbook committee costs $75 to join. And you know what else? My school's actually doing renovations and getting new boilers. Why spend money on boilers if you don't even have money for yearbooks? I'm sure your Russian class was canceled because of the referendum.

As for Russian itself, I don't have much of an opinion on it, although if I had, it'd lean on the good side. I sort of envy the Soviet Union for its communist revolution. Both my grandparents speak Russian and my grandfather's been on the cover of several Russian magazines. He's a sort of Chinese ambassador or something similar like that doing (or done) business in Russia.

's the same with me. I wanna learn Japanese (I already know some), not frickin' French or Italian. And for some reason, they'll have afterschool Chinese, but not Japanese. Of course.

Well, of course they'll have Chinese rather than Japanese. Chinese has more speakers than any other language in the world, plus, many US companies are doing business in China because of cheapness. (And it is off of all those companies that we Chinese people get rich!)

Just learn a different language! Spanish is interesting, Latin is fun (even though it's not used anymore), and I'm sure Canadian- *coughs* I mean, French, would be a great language too!

Lol... Canadian. :*D
thank you all for the good memories <3

I'm surprised they're cutting foreign language classes in all your schools. It's a state graduation requirement to take 4 years of foreign language where I live.

Umm, like Jeremiefied said, learn a different language. If you learn Spanish, it would be pretty easy to follow it up learning French, Italian, Romanian, and the other Romance languages and even a lot of the other languages in the Indo-European language family (German, Greek and RUSSIAN are all in this family, and I think Indo-European languages are spoken by over half the world.) It could just be kind of a lead in to better things.

As for the referendum thing, I know exactly how that goes. Our town is full of old people who don't want to spend their money on the well-being of the newest generation- I guess they figure they'll be dead by the time we're old enough to help them in any way. So our school district is in a huge amount of debt. All our sports are completely run by the booster clubs, our buses break down every other week, none of the essential classroom supplies can get replaced, so our whiteboards are permanently stained from the dry erase markers and you can hardly see what's on them, all the teachers with tenure are basically pushed into retirement by age 55, and all the other teachers have to buy everything for their classrooms- air conditioners (since we're too poor to have a central cooling system) pens, pencils, paper, a computer if they want a decent one, basically everything, because we're poor. And the kicker (well, two of them) is that our town has a junior college that can raise our taxes whenever they need money but the public schools can't, and that our town keeps building more and more retirement homes to attract people to our town- like we even need more people who will just vote NO when it comes time to ask for a referendum.
