Vintage Cartoon Gold: The Real Ghostbusters

Postby G-Force » Wed May 17, 2006 1:50 am

Older members of Lyoko Freak such as TB3, Rodri, Mew and myself came of age during the golden era of cartoons. It was a different time then when Diseny and the others were more comitted to providing intelligent and thoughtful series to the public instead of shows that they can make a ton of merchendise off of. Shows like Batman, Ducktails and Darkwing Duck played in our homes instilling our deep passion for the animted world for years to come.

Today I found something that truly took me back to those day. An episode of "The Real Ghostbusters."

Here

The Ghostbusters animated series was something to behold even now. Filled with intresting characters and plots, it was a show that aimed to entertain people of all ages instead of just a younger demographic. Growing up I watched Egon and his gang fight the forces of every kids' nightmare at the time, boogymen, vampiers, wherewolves and other nasty creatures that went bump in the night. They went after the very image of fear in the hearts of kids and removed them from their world to bring peace back to New York.

To those of you born after this time. Watch the episode with an open mind and see why us old timers feel in love with shows like this and don't forget to have a good time. We sure did when we were young.

I remember every single one of these. They were still showing on British TV till 1998. God they made me smile. The Ducktails theme rocked! :D

Aw D*mn, I've slipped into 'Nostalgia Mode' ;)

"When there's something strange, in your neighbourhood,
Who you gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS!
I ain't afraid of no ghost!"

"Life is like a hurricane, here in Duckburg!
Race-cars, lazers, aeroplanes,
IT'S A, DUCK-BLUR!"

"Sometimes, some crimes, go slipping through the cracks,
But these two, gumshoes
Are picking up the slack!"

"D-D-D-DARKWING DUCK!"

"The Transformers, more than meets the eye!
Autobots wage their battle to destroy
The evil forces of...
THE DECEPTICONS!"

"GO JO!"

I agree, those were happy days - in my mind, CL goes back to those roots of Golden-Age Cartoons :)

EDIT: Just looking at G-Force's clip, it reminds me of how well-animated these shows were, the Korean studios really knew their stuff - the opening credits of Ghostbusters still gives me a shiver - I wanna go find my old toy Proton Pack and Ghost-Trap! :P

Hmm, well who can mention Saban and not remember the first and the best!

MIGHTY MORPHIN' POWER RANGERS!

NB: Sorry to G-Force for moving off from the cartoon subject but I just had to do this when I found these Youtube videos!

"GO GO Power Rangers!
GO GO Power Rangers!
GO GO Power Rangers!
You Mighty Morphin'
POWER RANGERS!"

And of course the original bling;

THE MEGAZORD!

You know, whenever Rita yelled 'WAND, MAKE MY MONSTER GROW!' I smiled, because I knew what would be coming ;)

And when the going got tough they called on none other than Godzilla, um,err,um...THE DRAGONZORD!

Forming the MEGADRAGONZORD!

And finally, with the might of TITANUS, the ULTRAZORD!

I swear these war-machines could defeat ANYTHING, unless you let These Two drive.

END OF NOSTALGIA TRIP - DIAGNOSIS - I AM ASHAMED BUT PLEASED THAT I STILL LIKE THESE! :D

And most of the cast of Star Trek the Next Generation voicing characters XD - Johnathan Frakes as David Xanatos rocks my socks, and not just because of the character's surname XD

Ok since TB3 posted a non-animated clip I feel entitled to do so at least once.

Here

Remember this chap while we were growing up during the 90s? Well he's still doing his thing but his show is a little more mature but still carries that same charm we all fell in love with. It's almost as if the show grew up as we did.

Never seen it but that clip ruled. Nice choice G!

Hmm, I discovered another of my old favourite cartoons on Youtube today - and like CL it's French in origin - except the episodes for this were each an hour-long. Bliss!

Poor TB3. You were never exposed to the awesomeness that is Bill Nye the Science Guy. You must have lived a deprived childhood. :sigh:

On the other hand I foundly remember Tintin. That reporter really packed a mean cross when he had to mix it up with the bad guys. I don't know of a time when he fought that the enemy would be able to take more than two punches.

Well if you have a vague idea of a show you liked but just can't remember the name, let me introduce to you a sight loaded with such nuggets of memory.

Watch it and be amazed of what we did grow up on.

I remember alot of these... Darkwing Duck, Ren and Stimpy, Beetlejuice...

I'm surprised no one's mentioned SatAM(Sonic the Hedgehog). I remember it came on every Saturday and I would race to the TV to watch it. Good memories...

2. I've been reunited with my old friends, including my (ex?)bf.
3. I'm just not that interested in CL as I was before.

*does a double take* Omigosh! I can't believe I never noticed that his last name was "Xanatos". LOL! XD That show just went up 100 more cool points...if that's even possible since "Gargoyles" already rates about as high as one can go on the "Super spiffy cool toon" list. :D

Bill Nye!!! ^.^ I loved that show! The theme song was a kick too!

From this show and "Wishbone" (I love Jack Russel Terriers, so this show was a huge plus), one could learn all they needed to about science and classic literature...and in a fun way too! ^_^
