A few things I would like to point out. I'm not being mean their just ideas.
I'm not for Yumi killing herself since we see a lot of these fics. Where a character decides that life is too much for them and that they kill themselves. But that's my option.
Using a OC charcter is hard work. Trying to make the character fit in is tricky. Also how they act and what they do too.
Ulrich saving Yumi is not a bad idea, but it just seems expected. Twisting things up so the reader doesn't know what is going to happen next is the best way to go.
Odd being the hero. Nice idea. It's rarely done in most fics and I think you have a good chance with it.
