Wow good job man. I have read through it and all of the stuff before that pertains to it and all of the steps that were not present were easily realized. No mistakes that I can see. But I'll wait to see what the others find.

Thanks for the praise DL!

(looks at animenologist's post)

It's looks like Jeremie could have either recovered Aelita's entire code from the hair strnad, or used it as the kernel of a process recovering and compiling her files - possibly also the 'time signiture' of the data in the hair-strand affected which files were recovered, hence her lack of recollection of what happened.

And animenologist, I can't wait for your opinions on the supercomputer piece I wrote.

And to everyone if you have any ideas on how to improve it, or know of some supercomputer tech to enhance what I've written, please post it!

I am sorry for the double post but I have found something that I think could be important. In the Februray issue of Discover Magazine there is an article called: "Building a better world with Cyborg Bacteria". In this article they talk about cells that are plated in gold. These cells can sense a pathogen before it even enters the cell. It is also believe that this tecnology can be used to control the flow of electricty through logic circuts. Which could form the basis of a robotic brain that would learn to recognize objects and such. If we were to take this a step farther, which will occur eventually, we could say that it could learn to make plans and schemes. It would help explain how XANA is able to increase his capeability. Instead of getting a new number (in quatum computing) he would remember the past encounter and use that information to adjust a plan in the future (as shown in XANA's Kiss). It would also explain why XANA was not able to create spectres in the first season. He simply did not know how and he learned how by adjusting his posession tactic (he possesed rats and bees in season one and they did not have any ablilties). There could be other uses but I thought this might be helpful.

Hmm...well it's an excellent bit of info, and certainly relates to some of the concepts we've talked about.

However (and again I hope I don't sound like a meanie) XANA's ability to learn has not been doubted from Season 1. Look at his evolution in actually 'creating' something with his spectres;

1. Teddygozilla - XANA does not build an object, but does enhance it dramatically.
2. The Girl of the Dreams - XANA's first ever 'construct' in reality - the blocky limbs that manipulated the suit of armour.
3. XANA's Kiss - the first ever spectre that assumes human form.

This is one chain of events showing how XANA learns from experience. Another would be simulating human behavior - growing through 'Ghost Channel', 'XANA's Kiss' and finally peaking with 'Franz Hopper.'

However the concept of the computer gaining another qubit (and XANA gaining power through the computer), is an accepted element of the show - Jeremie stated it as such and it's the only logical explanation for XANA triggering off the RTTPs.

That said, Aelita's 'virus' was an accepted part of the show as well, and look where that went, so this theory could be wrong.

*bows to TB3* your good i can't really find anything wrong with your supercalculator/supercomputer peice keep up the good work!

i have to admit i always thaught the reason XANA grew more intellegent was because he remembered things from the RTTP? i like your idea animenologist but now im torn between the two theorys because both are very plausable

As the others have stated, a very nice piece of work. Especially love how the actual addition of a qubit takes multiple RTTPs, instead of after every trip. It seemed suspicious that if the latter was the case that his powers didn't grow wildly out of control afterwards (how he doesn't infect 2 people, make multiple clones, that sorta thing). I know I can never write out something like that. I can reason, debate, and research, but Writing has always been my weakest subject. But still, I think that there may be a few things about it you can put in, unless you plan to include them in a separate section.

For one, you could also contain something relating to its nuclear battery. Especially after that other article you wrote. You could include something concerning its power source or in hardware. May include how it is what powers the Zero Point Energy module that opens up ZPS which then powers the rest of the supercomputer's functions.

Second, for functions, even though you already put in the struggle between XANA and the gang over its controls, maybe you can include something of how there are pre-defined tasks and controls given to the opposing factions. Mainly how the gang recieves control over scanners, restrict access, and the RTTP, because those are the areas that ultimately give humans control the supercompter, while XANA recieves control over things having to do with Lyoko's operations (monster construction, major environment alteration, tower activation).

Last, for processing power, although its based off of 80s Cray technology, remember that he has been working on Lyoko until the year 1994 and would have ready access to their current technology and could of redone the architecture to include the recent changes (yeah, its still incredibly early compared to current times, but its something). And don't forget he had 7 years of independent work all his own. Though he is just one man (and thus much slower than multi-billion dollar companies), he may have developed his own items during the course of that time, any of which could boost the processing power by a significant amount. Actually, thanks to the scanner technology, once he created a significant piece of hardware, he would be able to replicate it with ease if he fully understood materilization concepts. He should and probably has been able to create some keen things on his own. The helmet from Temptation is proof of that. And on top of that, after 2600 return trips, he may have added multiple qubits just from that alone. Just offering ideas for explanation.

Other than some grammar and spelling errors, those are the main things that come particularly to mind. I also am not sure about the little thing about the team jumping ship with Hopper after it became a military project, but thats just a minor irking. Though I wouldn't put it past him having help on his little pet project. On that fateful day of June 6th 1994, he had an already working lab and operational supercomputer before going on his 7 year trip down Deja vu lane. He had a fully constructed lab on his 67th day and the STM is already working since he was able to relive that day.

Maybe for your next article, you can do either the other hardware (the ancillaries, the console, the scanner), a detailed look at the workings of Lyoko, or an article on XANA (including psychological profiling). I thought those 3 would be most appropriate, since they directly relate to the supercomputer.

Hi guys!

Thanks for all the tips everyone - regarding animenologist I'll add you're suggestions for the supercomputer shortly, but first I'll post this;

The first of three chapters dealing with the complex's three classes of Zero-Point-Engines - I hope you enjoy!

===================================

ZERO POINT ENGINES I. THE POWER DRIVE

Contained in the outer-ring of the supercomputer this little gem of a device is perhaps the part of the computer best described as being ‘Hopper’s’, stemming from his Zero-Point-Energy/Space research and coupled to his Exertanium discovery rather than the project to create a competitor to Cray Research's computers.

As Hopper said in his diary, with the discovery of the ZPS Matter/Energy exchange he had laid at mankind’s feet the opportunity to dispose of the harmful wastes contaminating the Earth in exchange for plentiful energy. Though this tiny reactor alone is not up to the task, it is certainly a sign of how Hopper’s inventions may one day benefit mankind instead of smiting it.

=================

Hardware

This serves as an excellent point to introduce the crucial piece of hardware required to interface with ZPS – the Exertanium Coil, which comes in two versions, ‘ambient’ and ‘focused’.

An ambient Extertanium coil resembles a tightly wound spring or DNA strand, composed actually of two coils making up a double-helix. When installed correctly these coils draw on the Casimir effect and if energised emit what is known as a ZPE-Field, weakening the ‘boundaries’ between normal space and ZPS. Enough ambient coils in close proximity would elevate the area covered by their interacting fields to ZPS level.

A focused coil, is identical to the ambient model with one alteration – an Exertanium filament is inserted down the open space at the centre of the coil, much like the element from an electromagnet. Unlike the magnet however, this focuses the ZPE-Field into a powerful, atom-thick beam that projects from both ends of the magnet. Two of these beams converging open a tiny ZPS rift at their point of convergence.

The Power Drive makes use of both coils, in a configuration similar to this schematic;

A = AMBIENT COILS
F = FOCUSED COILS
R = REACTOR CHAMBER

The best way of explaining this configuration is that the reactor chamber consists of a hollow Exertanium cylinder, sealed at one end with rings of ambient coils surrounding the cylinder, all horizontally orientated. Wrapped around these in turn is a layer of shielding to contain their ZPE-Fields to the unit.

At one end of the chamber is a cap shaped like a ring doughnut consisting of multiple focused coils aimed into the reactor chamber and shielded at the outside end to block ZPE Field-beams.

The entire unit is then inserted longitudinally into the side of the computer’s lower ring and the fuel-rod inserted.

===============================

Operation

This model of ZPE-Engine is as said, a Nuclear Battery, designed to convert the harmful physical emissions of nuclear material into usable energy. These emissions are known as Alpha and Beta particles.

To bring the battery online, the system first needs to be jump-started using an external power-source. The electricity is used to bring all the Exertanium coils, both ambient and focused, online.

The ambient coils begin to emit ZPE-Fields in all directions, but due to their shielding these fields are contained to the reactor chamber. Working at nominal levels, the ambient coils thus reduce the ZPS/Reality boundaries in the chamber to almost non-existence. The chamber could thus be said to be multi-dimensional, with one foot in our universe and another in ZPS.

At this point the focused coils come into play. By firing focused ZPE-fields continuously into the chamber they create a barrier around the fuel-rod, and due to the actions of the ambient coils, this barrier actually becomes a doorway both into and out of ZPS.

Thus, any matter emitted from the fuel-rod will pass into ZPS and displace an equal amount of energy out the other side. This energy conducts into the Exertanium lining of the chamber and is then channelled away to power the complex, as shown below;

l------------::::-ZPS-::::
l ~~~~~~::::-ZPS-::::---<-o---<-o---<-o------O
l------------::::-ZPS-::::

The exact amount of energy released per particle is calculated in Einstein’s most famous equation, E=mc(squared), or in English, Energy Released = Mass x The speed of light squared.

===========================

Fuel

In theory the Power Drive could handle a fuel-sample from any radioactive material imaginable, from the luminous fluid in a digital watch to weapons-grade plutonium. However the more dangerous the material becomes, the more stringent safety measures become.

In the case of the factory’s Nuclear Battery though the fuel is an isotope of Uranium known as Lead 210 – conventionally this is used in scientific laboratories. It is this fuel rod of Lead 210 that is reffered to as the 'Nuclear Battery.'

DIAGRAM OF A LEAD 210 NUCLEAR BATTERY

P=Plexiglas sleath

ll------l--l==l========F========l---l--------l AND PLEXIGLAS
ll------l--l==l========F========l---l--------l UNSCREW
\\===l__l__l___________P___________l______l
---------S

Lead 210 is produced during the mining of Uranium and emits only Beta-particles over a 100 year period, though its half-life is 22 years. This low radioactivity level brings an advantage in that it can be handled casually and one only needs to wear a radiation suit when reloading the system in case of breakage of the fuel-rod or contamination from the reactor chamber.

The fuel-rods used in the factory complex though are a concentrated fluid of Lead 210 particles, and also a small amount of green luminescent liquid. This allows for a constant and strong source of Beta-particles. The green liquid also emits light based on the strength of the Beta-emissions as a visual guide of the potency. This fluid is contained in a Plexiglas cylinder which acts as shielding – when inserted into the reactor chamber a magnetic clamp removes the Plexiglas allowing the emission of Beta-particles.

Quite where Hopper obtained this radioactive material from is unknown, but it was possibly provided for him during his tenure with Project Carthage. As seen in ‘Common Interest’ the nuclear power-plant near to Kadic still manufactures these rods for shipment elsewhere. During this episode XANA hijacked a small armed convoy delivering four of the Lead 210 rods, as the factory’s own fuel-rod had been depleted (assuming Hopper received his fuel rod sometime in the 1970s, its half-life would have expired long before 2006 and so it was only a matter of time before it ran flat).

================================

Support Systems

The Power-Drive is almost in near permanent operation, continuously supplying the power requirements of all the high-end gear contained in the factory. There are however a few other systems linked into it in case of a crisis.

Both systems can be found on a level between the Scanner and Supercomputer rooms called the Ancillaries level, and the first is the diesel generator used to prime the system before it can be turned on – when the computer began to loose power in ‘Common Interest’ this generator would have chugged into life automatically in order to keep the system primed and ready for a restart and also to power some of the complex systems – the elevator and the lights for example.

The second is a large bank of capacitors also held in the Ancillaries level – these are constantly in action storing charge for moments when a sudden flood of energy is required – triggering an RTTP or a Virtualisation/Devitalisation cycle (as well as storing the energy released by the virtualisation of a body in the scanners) – some of these capacitors however are dedicated to an emergency situation. Much like on some models of PCs, should power fail in the supercomputer these capacitors kick in and keep the memory banks and CPU ticking over long enough to save all active data and prevent the loss of anything vital.

===========================

Design Limitations

Now refuelled and running at full steam the Power Drive should continue to efficiently power the factory complex for another 20-30 years. This design of Zero-Point-Engine however does not fulfil all of Hopper’s dreams.

Were a different fuel-source to be used to Lead 210 (for example Plutonium), the Gamma radiation emitted by the fuel-rod would not be converted to energy, as it itself is an energy wave. Instead it would convert to harmless powder and gather in the bottom of the reactor chamber, effectively wasting it's potentital energy.

A redesigned Power Drive however would be able to convert this solid matter to energy, along with the conversion of other waste material – from un-recyclable household wastes to toxic chemicals and expired nuclear fuel-rods.

Even other materials can be used for the matter/energy exchange – imagine a portable Power Drive delivered to a small African village which has no electricity – a simple bucket-load of sand a day would provide enough clean electricity to power the community.

Hopefully this is one invention of Hopper’s that can soon be released safely to the world, as it would both help save our ecosystem and also solve mankind’s escalating energy needs.

==============================

Right, well I'm gonna take a break and then I'll edit the supercomputer entry, hope you all like this!

Coming up next, the scanners!

Really nice. I love it.

So if I'm reading this right, your ZPE module is basically an instantaneous matter/energy converter, with its current incarnation using radioactive particles instead of everyday normal matter and uses a diesel engine to start up the initial running and powering up of the coils, after the which, the converted radioactive particles take over and run everything else once it gets started.

Again, ZPE is not my area of knowledge, so I can't give out extensive comments or criticism, but I thought I can give out a few things. A ZPM did appear in Stargate: Atlantis. For them, the energy was derived from an artificially created region of space-time. The energy is drawn out from there. Also, the module is thermodynamically irreversible, so given enough time the region will reach maximum entropy and will eventually be unable to give out energy ever again.

In another article I've read on the matter, it was theorized that the energy was harnessed based on the photoelectric effect. ZPE was harnessed by creating a lower ground state within an atom. Normally, electrons try to get to the lowest stable state they can, so the electrons would shift to newly created lower state. Because of the photoelectric effect, the electron would give off its excess ZPE, which it used to orbit at its former ground state, as light energy which would than be harnessed as power.

Its just a few ideas, but I can't really say much more than that, since again, my knowledge on the subject is fairly limited.

Exactly, and I'm kinda pleased with it as well. The only correction I would make is that it is a matter/energy exchanger rather than a converter.

Neat, very, very neat. Looks like the writers at Stargate had the same rough idea of drawing energy from another universe via a ZPM. Based on scientific theory however I've run with the idea of ZPS being infinte, but full. Therefore it's an infinite reasource that can't run out.

That's very interesting actually - was the article in relation to ZPE in general, or Code: Lyoko, or another sci-fi reality?

The only thing I can say against that though (and not to offend), is that based on 'Common Interest' the computer is getting it's energy from the nuclear emissions. Now since clearly the fuel-rods aren't emitting Gamma Radiation if Duncan and Jeremie were handling them, they can only be emitting particles and the only way you could get energy from that would be to convert/exchange those particles to/for energy.

That said, I'm still intriuged by the photoelectric effect and the various 'states' that can be associated with the intake and output of energy on a molecular level - after I've finished the hardware chapters I'd like to put some thought into that and see if they affect what I've written.

Cheers for now!

TB3

PS: I've just noticed something while researching how the scanners might actually 'scan' a body's molecular/atomic structure after discovering an online article on tiny superconductive-devices called SQUIDs which are used to sense tiny electrical charges. Perfect. :)

Now that alone is freakily similar to some of the ideas I've had, but while drawing a SQUID diagram I realised that if you tweak the shape a tiny bit, you actually get a ring-shape with four prongs jutting off.

Now imagine the scanner's outer walls as a giant SQUID with that configuration and draw it - add in another ring inside to represent the other major component - 'the scanner ring', and then add a dot in the centre representing a body being scanned.

You get 'The Eye of XANA', which might explain just what it means! If this is 'correct' it's a stylised diagram of a scanner - the gateway to Lyoko!

This was so weird I took it a sign we're on the right track! Yee-haw! :D

The article I read was a general ZPE article. Still, the current ideas are itself great right now, but who knows what may hold for the future, when new evidence arises.

Interesting idea on the SQUID, TB3. But I, myself, prefer to submit to the computed tomography theory myself. The scanner looks like an upright computer tomography machine, especially the 4th genreration versions that has the ability to scan the full 360 degrees around a person, by creating a fanshaped scan that rotates around the person, though in the scanners case, it rotates the person around inside the scanner.

By altering the radiation that penetrates through the person, he could use computer tomography to scan varying levels and depths and currently able to scan real-time pictures of a persons interior.

Though the Eye thing sounds keen, though it doesn't seem to look that way in any picture of the scanners I've seen. It usually is just some wires from the roof heading to the top of the chamber which probably is used to take in information and commands from the console and 5 wires jutting out the back to transfer the body into the supercomputer and feed ZPE into the scanner for scanning, levitating the body, and the sudden burst that completely virtualizes them.

Just some ideas.

Looking at what you just said I like your idea Animenologist - perhaps if the chamber uses both a Computer Tomography system to scan the person, and also SQUIBS as a back-up and a redunancy system?

I'll be writing the scanner document sometime today with all luck so I look forward to your critiques!

Well, if you want some inspiration from science fiction, in Johnny Mnemonic, a genetically engineered dolphin to used a SQUID to read a memory device implanted in Johnny's brain.

In the movie, Strange Days, SQUIDs were used to read a person's memories where they are recorded and sold on the black market.

The mind in a way is a bunch of electrical impulses, buzzing around our brains, carrying information and data with it. You can have the CT scan the subject's body and clothing, and have a SQUID used to scan the person's electrical signals from a person's biological neural network, which than forms the basis of the subject's conscious files.

Oh, my. This is what I get for not being around for a while. >.>

Your articles are absolutely stunning to say the least, TB3. They sound so perfect I almost want to cry ;__;

I can't say that I found anything wrong with them... but you've clearly done your research and I trust you. When I was reading the one on the supercomputer, I almost thought you forgot that it was a Quantum Computer, not just a super one. I guess Hopper not having enough foresight to design it as one makes sense....

I think we should have some articles on the CL universe/plot event theories that have (accidentally?) arisen from this thread that was supposed to be based strictly on techology.. for instance the Carthage Project and the events leading up to the creation of XANA and, might as well, his trapping the Hoppers in Lyoko. You do realize that the precise use of the CP in the military was never fully explained in the show, right? ;) I'm just saying, though.

I suggest we seriously think about sending these off to AnteScoop/MoonFilms. I would love to see them implimented, or at least hear what they thought... (since we know that everything is actually done in English before French..)

My dream would still be hearing Jeremie mention ZPE or Exertanium or anything we've come up with just once. I'd be a happy little boy. ^-^

You know what would be really scary though? If some scientist somewhere actually did discover that this exists and is possible and people began doing things based on our theory without realizing it... o.O

Anyway, you get three *bow* *bow* *bows* and thunderous applause! :D

EDIT: Yeah... I actually typed this up yesterday but my 'rents came home so i had to save it in a word file and shut down. *sweatdrop*

In an Odd-like voice: Hey, what about me? Don’t I get any credit? :D

I kid, of course. The past few articles were magnificent, truly deserving of accolades. Though I wonder how large this thing will be once it reaches completion. Currently with just the articles we have, the size is about 9.5 pages. That’s not including the episodic breakdowns we typed up and still need to edit.

We still don’t have scanners, console, Lyoko inner workings, Pixelization, RTTP, and a profile on XANA and Aelita, plus the forward. By the time we finish, we’re talking maybe 30-40 pages here, the thing will be huge.

Wonder if the people at Moonscoop will really have all the time to look through it all.

Thanks to TB3's 1-2-1 sessions, all this tech now makes sense. And with each passing day, it seems more possible...down to the patent office!

Currently TB3 is lying on the floor next to me going 'My liver hurts, ZPE etc'. He apologises that his latest paper on the Scanners hasn't been uploaded. He’s heading back to University tomorrow (or is it 2 days? Damn time zones) and we (he+Mum) had a drunken party today. Due to his return to Uni, he can't make the post for a few days until he has settled back in.

But the most ironic thing, when he posted his first theories on UMSD, YDV flamed him and nearly reduced him to tears and considered him a jerk. But the wonders of Tech and Samblob’s hotel threads have changed that. YDV to TB3 is now a good friend.

Signing off, TL.

PS

Even TB3 admits this, a thread I started led to him making this wonderful thread.

Without wanting to pull a Taelia, I wonder if the VA's could be gifted copies and then convinced to leave 'em around the office (probably not, but... *shrug*)

Hey, TL. Hmm.. liver pains. Interesting. lol (Well ok I did kinda have my appendix blow up before but whatever)

Yeah.. I remember that stuff at UMSD ^-^; I don't really know why I did it... I guess I wasn't really reading it that much and all I got was some kind of vibe that he was stuck up or something. And stuck up people get on my nerves. Like, a lot. (and it almost got me and Kiba banned. I don't know if mob's still mad at me or not. xD)

Anyway.. can't wait to see the Scanners section.

EDIT: Heh.. "Pull a Taelia." That could become part of LF slang. Er.. no offense. *sweatdrop* Anyway... I'm not saying that wouldn't not necessarily be a BAD idea...

Why is it that once they are devirtualised they can't revirtualise for a long while?
Sorry if its been explained before... or if I'm missing something really obvious...

You know that it takes time to rematerialize vehicles right?

Well the avatars are much more complex and are harder to re-materialze backed up by what jeremy said in revelations, or was it the key?

Well, if your asking about the avatars being Jeremie's programming, that would be in Revelation, when XANA was going to take over the tower to get to the restricted access portion of the supercomputer. Among the things he included in restricted access include Franz Hopper's diary, their combat gear, the vehicles, the transfer codes, and Aelita's materialization program.

I think it's either one of the system's many fail-safes, or due to the fact that Hopper only intended for himself and Aelita to be scanned in once.. (It still doesn't explain why there were THREE scanners instead of two, and.. ugh nevermind.)

Yeah, and Jeremie also has to recompile their data - it' the same with the vehicals - if decompiled, you need time to put the data back together and fill in the blanks.

(As an aside, I'm now back in university and settled in, so expect the scanners chapter within 24 hours - and I'm really, really sorry for the delay)
