Anyway, sorry to hear about the art theft. You're lucky that you noticed that or else they could accuse YOU of art theft. I don't know what I'd do if somebody stole my site's content. *somebody steals content* *blows up*

Yah... The proplems bad just about every where.

The Creatures Comunity had a very bad problem with people steling site content/grafics. and, because thrid party programing was alode by the makers of the game series....

I've seen multiple sites close down because they wanted to protect there stuff from theft.

I want to try something. I want some one here to post one code lyoko watermarked image. We'll do this like those t.v. shows where the theif shows the home owner the weak points in their house. I bet that I can re submit the same art back into this thread, without the watermark. This is just to prove that it's not completely full proof. Begin...

The water mark is easy to remove- IF you can find it.

This method won't stop people from stealing your art... but you can catch them!

Edit: when I uploded it onto imege shack, it destroyed the water mark.

There's no need to do that here. A watermark/sig or any other kind of ID mark on a picture is merely a deterrent for art theft, not absolute protection. Anyone who's determined enough to steal a piece of art can simply edit out the watermark or sig...or if they're oblivious enough, they can submit the piece with the signature and watermark and hope nobody cares or notices (which is how Alyssa101 won two months ago in CL.com's fanart contest with Chibi-Jen-Hen's "Awkward Aelita" piece).

The only thing that can stop an art thief, is either cutting of the source of the art (which is not a desirable solution for the artist) or creating a way on the site for them to be identified, stopped, and punished for the theft.

That's what the petition I'm writing up is mostly about. CL.com, unlike other art sites such as DeviantArt, has only one e-mail address by which to contact the creators of the website and supposedly the purveyors of the Fanart contest. In addition, this way of communication is slow, due to the likely huge slew of e-mails that a site like that must get everyday. What I'm petitioning for is a way to report and deal with art thieves in the fanart contest on that site. Even a simple "Report Abuse" option, that will be sent to a team of moderators hired to investigate and deal with art thieves would be better than anything they have now.

It's a small step, but CL.com has gotten way out of hand with the lack of moderation at their site and forum, and making an example of it there, will send out the warning that art thieves better beware should they decide to steal from fanartists.

Quite a few fanartist's who've had their work stolen have done that. That's the only option they have for reporting art theft and it doesn't always do anything to stop the theft unfortunately. You're welcome to, if you'd like though. The more people that e-mail them, telling them that art theft is becoming way too common on their site, the better.

Well, I can tell you for sure that the biggest art thief on that site is odd243555. He's stolen work from everyone, and he's done it again this time.

I can give you a link to one of the main works that he's stolen this contest and who the original artist is. Is that all you would need?

Okay then. So far this contest, in particular odd243555 has stolen artwork from:

Lonewind, the piece stolen being his Kadic Christmas picture.

Another work stolen is Nakira and Pyroice's Odd and Yumi Sketches.

I'm sure the greater majority of the works he's submitted to the contest at CL.com are stolen from other artists, but I could not find links to the originals on DA (they may very well be from artists who use other online galleries like Side 7, and such).

It depends. If you're just using it as a reference without copying EVERYTHING about the picture, you're probably okay.. If you trace, though, it's theft.

Oh... well... I traced some pictures on Flash, but they looked sorta different. There was no shading. No matter I lost it and, I can draw my own.

Also, I think you should password protect your pictures. Use a mySQL database.

I don't know how exactly to make the pages yet, but over the week I'll try to learn php and create the pages.
