Okay guys, yeah, I'm still here. I definately havn't caught up at all in what you guys have been doing, and I don't think I have much time to scroll around every page, because I'm still schooling (got a science project to show today at the local library!) so could you fill me in on the major MAJOR details? Thanks! Also, I'm not completely sure who's in the project right now, so could everyone introduce themseleves a little? Thanks!

Then I have no idea why it won't work. Do you have Windows XP? If so, do you know if you installed Service Pack 2? You had a near-death experience?

JH: introduce myself...hmm...well, I'm obviously Rycr. I guess I'm helping out with the terrain design, depending on what we'll be using to design it. I'm also going to beta test, and maybe help out a bit with the programming, depending on what language is used.

TB3: well, if we're using a map editor, I only have the UT 2004 editor. I'm not sure we could make anything remotely like Lyoko with that, so I'm hoping other map editors are better. And I still like the current project name, but since JH is back, hopefully to stay, it's his decision.

Right. I read your post too fast and missed the "we", so I thought it just applied to you. Well, I'm glad this was ressurected, and that there are now more ideas flowing. I'm itching to get started, but I don't know what to do yet.

By the way, Terragen probably isn't what we're looking for. We need something...I dunno, less realistic, to make it look like Lyoko. It also needs to actually render a full 3d map, rather than just rendering pictures from a really simplistic unexportable (inexportable?) 3d map.

It is fun to mess around with though...

You can alternatively WRITE the software :P to render it.

But I'm rather not interested in project as it become a map.

Well, the mapping software that makes levels for Star Wars: Jedi Knight II and Star Wars: Jedi Academy (Jedi Knight III) is VERy powerful, and I could easily make lyoko. You can still make levels without the two games with it, but then you can only view them in the map viewer winodw on the mapping software. Also, Both Star Wars games come with very powerful multiplayer versions with them, and with the map editor you can make levels for multiplayer. The we could play over the internet. Also, I can create the characters using Milkshape 3d, and the star wars games are made to be compatible with user made characters, even in multiplayer. I can also create the weapons and the scripts needed to do everything. In Star Wars: Jedi Academy, you can also have vehicles, and you can easily create user made vehicles. I could make the overwing, overboard and overbike. Anyway, the mapping software, Gtkradient, is here, and it's free and only 3mb. You can make levels and look through them, and if you have either Star Wars: Jedi Knight II or Star Wars: Jedi Academy, then you can play them. I have Star Wars Jedi Knight II, so I'll give some nice screenshots once I'm done.

I am Daegon, a willing and waiting computer wizzard who wants to learn code. I am aspiring to be a programmer, maybe even a "Hacker". (a legal one of course) I am still wondering what program to use, and wich website to go to in order to upload certain files that would be very helpful to this operation. I'm also currently trying to recrute more members from other websites.

I'm always down to play around with some coding. Nothing to lose.

I know how to program in C++, Visual Basic, Perl, and Java. I'm not an expert programmer, and I can hardly create amazing programs, but if you guys need any help I'll be more than happy to lend a hand with what I can.

I'm AngelBolt. I'm trying to keep out of this project in the programming sense, so that I can be a controlled Beta Tester, but I'm also good with quicksketches, and such, so I guess I could help in the scenery a bit. Just tome sketchy little things, but it may get others started and a good idea of where things should go. It may help if someone's stuck.

It's the 7th program down, first program in the level editor section, and it's called JK2 editing tools.

I downloaded it, but I have no idea how it works, so I'll just have to mess around with it for a while until I figure out what I'm doing. Also, do maps made with this program work in Jedi Academy? Or just in Jedi Outcast?

The program works in Jedi Oytcast and in Jedi Academy. I'm gonna realese some beta pictures of the level, either later tonight or tommarow. If I don't get them in by tonight, then it could come around 7 tommarow. Rycr, there's a lot of tutorials on gtkradient, because it works for a bunch of different games. I would advise looking for quake 3 mapping guides. Also, if you don't have the game, you'll have to make your own textures. Look for tutorials on making your own textures.

I've basicly started making code lyoko levels, I'm starting with the desert region. Easy region. Anyway, I've been able to create a couple platforms, a pool of water, the big wires moving through lyoko (I can't seem to think of a way to show the data going through them, I'd either have to create a custom shader or a custom effect, shader is harder and effect dosn't look as good. I've also created a couple good looking rocks, and a tower (looks really great, and the top glows red!) I'm working on making it so you can go through the bottom of the tower like aelita does, don't think I can though.

I can give you guys a couple pictures and maybe a video of the region so far, but the lighting is crappy (actually, there is no lighting in the level so far, it's just default brightness) so the color of everything looks yellow. I can also send in the custom textures I've created so far. Also, the sky is just like in code lyoko, had to make my own shader though. It all looks great! Also, when you fall off the edge you die. I'm gonna look into creatinga script so that when you die, it show the devirtualization effect. And the weapons I'll create, and also some people could work on the characters. The game takes .glm type 3d characters.

Peace, I'll come back with some pics soon.

Sounds pretty cool.

What do you create the characters with?

Milkshape 3d, it costs 20$, I bought it and I lost the file. I'm trying to find a free 3d creator.

Well, I got the pictures and a video on the region I created (at least as much of it as I have so far!) I uploaded the textures I used to make the level (do not copy without my consent, I worked very hard on these!), some screenshots of the level, and one video tour. You can find the files on my putfile homepage here. I just had to add music to the video tour, and if anyone really wants to know the song, it's Poor Leno (Jakata Remix) by Royksopp (my favorite band!) I've always wanted to use this song for a tour of a region so it was automatically the song I just had to use. Anyone who gets gtkradient, I can send my map file. The video has shots of the star wars character (Kyle Katarn) in the different places so that you all understand the size of everything, and it's pretty much perfect! I'll keep working on the thing, and again, if anyone wants to work on the level, I can give them the map file so they can edit it.

Goodnight everyone, JeremyHopper signing off ;)

Don't be shy, upload the pictures/video so we can see.

And tommorow I'll see if I can't get my hands on Milkshape 3d and see if I can get some characters going.

Some good stuff so far. Only thing is my eyes hurt from that yellow on yellow lol. Anyways so far its coming out good.

If you gathered a team of us together to work on it, we could make a lyoko game that is actually pretty good, atleast it would be in 3d. I'm going to get Milkshape 3d tommorow (or late tonight) and I'll see if I can start working on some characters. We'll see if we can't put something nice together :)

Yeah, the yellow on yellow is because I didn't start the lighting yet, it's at default. I'm working on the lighting today. It's hard to only have one light (that represents the lyoko sun) but I might pull it off.
