My class....

Postby *Star* Gazer » Thu May 11, 2006 12:47 pm

I felt like posting this up.

We were doing math today and circumferences as a review from 5th grade...why she went back that far I don't know. I hadn't done it in so long I failed. The next day the same stinking thing. I worked\did it to hard to the point I cried....

Anyone know not how to break down if you can't do it?

circumference = 3.14 X Radius to the 2nd power.

Hmm. Do you mean the circumference of a circle? Geometry can be fun! :D But i know from experience that most people are either good at Geometry or Algebra. Very few are great at both. Breaking it down? Do you mean break down the math problems to make them easier to understand? I could help out with that. 8)

Actually, circumference = Diameter * pi. Pi * radius^2 is the formula for the area of a circle.

The last time I've had anything resembling a math class was fall 2005. Do I just have an abnormally good memory for school, or what? I think that's worthy of its own rant, but... No.

Did you try asking your teacher how to do it? its fairly simple if you remember it and have a scientific calc. Its probably good that your revising it then, as you'll probably/definatly need it in school.

Speaking of maths, im doing a "JMO mentoring scheme" paper, from leeds uni, apparently i did really well at a test, so i got a paper that my teacher made *very* clear, was optional (to the point where he sounded like he didnt want me to)
And if you thought circumference and area were hard, you should see one of the questions i got... "prove that the area of the shaded cresent (semicircle-quartercircle) is half of the area of the rectangle ABCD", very fun (wheres a nice "rolls eyes" emoticon when you need one".

Someone earlier said it's rare to be good at both geometry and algebra. Well, geometry is based on algebraic expressions. I love algebra!

Well, I can relate, I stink at math too. But if you are looking to make your life a little less stressful, then try going to the teacher for one-on-one help before school, after school, or during a study hall. That way, even if you do get frustrated, at least it's not in the midle of class. It will also help ensure that you keep up and know how to do everything.
