Code Lyoko Pet Peeves

Postby Icelcis » Sat Sep 24, 2005 4:29 pm

I'm Japanese by ancestry, and thus I find Yumi's Lyoko outfit extremely irksome. Whenever I see her kimono, I think that she is dead. Strange and bizarre though that may seem, it makes sense. Kimonos are always, always, always folded left side over right. The opposite, which it seems Yumi has done, is only done when dressing a corpse to be cremated, for crying out loud.

Maybe there is some foreshadowing there.... :umm:

No problems with that. Examine that shot closely. Although he should draw up the kimono more, at the very bottom, it can be seen that it is left over right. However, he should get a hakana, which is a sort of baggy, long skirt.

Wouldn't those be "hakama"? The long Samurai pants like the type Kenshin Himura (Rurouni Kenshin) wears?

Ulrich's samurai outfit seems to be more based on a ninja's outfit than a samurai's...although Soujiro Seta's (RK) outfit matches his pretty closely...

I balk at calling them 'samurai pants'. Note that even if they were in that context, Kenshin and Soujiro weren't samurai.

*hits head* Darn typos, stupid m and n keys right next to each other.... :arg:

'Ninja' is too broad a term to be confined to a single outfit. The real meaning of 'ninja' is just a mercenary, usually one who goes after political targets. The image most people have, however, with the black cloth concealing the whole body.... I never, never understood where the heck that came from. It has no historical base at all....

Well...for lack of a better phrase. ^^;

Not to be off-topic but why wouldn't Kenshin be a samurai? The series was called "Samurai X" even so why wouldn't he be?

Samurai are based only in families. You don't apply at your local recruitment office to be a samurai. Kenshin just so happened to be a Hitokiri, a manslayer. Basically, he was a hitman.

Ah, I see...so even the fact that, before he became an assassin, he was trained under the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu by Seijuro Hiko, he still isn't a true samurai? Intriguing.

People seem to have the idea that to be a 'samurai' is to wear a kimono and have a sword. Not so. It's not as simple as that. A samurai is owned by a master, or 'daimyo'. The daimyo reports to a Lord. Each samurai is given a village, or fief, and serves their master with undying loyalty. Oftentimes will they kill themselves because they were shamed. Ever heard of seppuku, where the samurai cuts out his guts?

Sound like Kenshin? Hmm?

Stock animation. I know, I know. "BUDGET!" But there are times when the stock animation doesn't match up with what should be happening; in one epsiode, it shows Jeremie riding in an elavatar, perfectly calm, when he was about work himself into a heart attack a few seconds ago. Also, in season 1, Lyoko had a bunch of plot threads that they could use to make the story more interesting (Taelia, etc.), but they're always dropped. Not enough continuity between episodes, although season two is working on that.

On a random note, a lot of characters in Code: LYOKO have widow's peaks. I find that interesting.
We think the flower on the precipice is beautiful
Because our fear make our feet stop at its edge
instead of stepping forward into the sky
like that flower.

One my most noticed pet peeves are the shadow that over peek the side of their faces.

1) When they yell, "Yeah" With the skateboard
2) Sappy Love scenes
3) Mixing up Lazer Arrow with Lazer dart or Lazer Flash.
4) Odds' Teddygozilla voice. (Gets shot by VA)

1) The stupid love scenes.
2) The repetetive and predictable episode formulas.
3) The number of romance fanfictions on the CODE: LYOKO official forum.
4) How slowly the storyline moves.

I can't see the picture. I like you, Icelcis. My identical twin sister was in Japan for a year and six weeks. That's why I wanna hear a Japanese dub of CL.

I have been curious as to what the characters sound like with Japanese voices for quite a while.

XD That's a borrowed motif from traditional anime. Since many anime were based off of manga (which are made entirely of still or "freeze" frames, for an effect, they'd use a still frame recreated from the manga to put emphasis on a scene. Code Lyoko likes to borrow things from anime from time to time, so I'm not surprised they used that. ;)

My only pet peeve about CL is...that it isn't on enough times of the day. :D

As I am on the topic...

1) The link at the begining doesn't work anymore.
2) What's a "pet peeve"?

Off-topic time:
