Money grabbin' leeches...

Postby Tekirai » Wed Jun 28, 2006 3:14 pm

The Thursday night before last was the night my brother Lee won a huuuuge music competition, more specifically, Stars In Yer Eyes 2006. He originally wasn't supposed to be in it, but he was DRAGGED into doing it by our music teacher, as one group from our school was sick during the preliminaries so somebody needed to fill in the empty slot. He won the first round, then the second, the third, and then the whole thing. Yay. A trophy and £2,500 in cash was the prize.

HOWEVER! The freakin' school is now DEMANDING half the money and the trophy! There were three members of this group, and they were hoping to share the money between them and give some to charity. But nooo, the school just bounces in asking for half the cash even though they didn't do anything to help out. Now the whole charity thing is out the window and now they only get around £400 each.

The school did NOTHING to help the guys out. Lee bought new drum heads especially for the big night, my dad had to skip work for the day and spend all that time up in Belfast (around an hour's drive from my town), the guitarist had to pay for the fuel to drive his own car up there, they practised in their own time, nobody was at the finale except the music teacher who was reluctant to go, they were forced to do it, they didn't get any food at all the entire day apart from 3 cans of Red Bull and a KitKat, and to make it worse: they're making them play the same song again at the end of year assembly at school on Friday! 'No effin' way am I playing that!' is an exact quote from Lee himself. And to be honest, I agree with him.

My dad is going to talk to my principal tomorrow (almost forgot about him; he was skipping around gloating about the whole thing and he practically didn't know about it.) about the issues, and if the principal says 'that money is ours', we're bringing court into the matter. Another thing we noticed was that the cash prize wasn't actually supposed to go to one specific side- school or contestant. It was just prize. But at first a picture of them all was in the paper on the weekend following the event, today's paper from the same publisher had the article again, but this time, '... and won £2,500 cash towards their school.' magically appeared in the caption. Dude, what the hell?

I'm very annoyed by this. I helped Lee out quite a lot by doing his chores so that he could practise at home for over a month and I helped him with his drum kit when carrying it to transport to go to the contest and practises. I seriously wanted him to do good in this, as I'm proud of the fact that he's a semi-pro drummer (and the biggest swoon attracter in my school, with more fangirls than he has hair.) and I want it to go towards something worthwhile. And then this happens. I've lost a lot of faith in the high authorities in my school now. Me and the music teacher were very good friends, until... this.

Those... those... IDIOTS can go to hell. *trying to refrain from censored swearing, as she doesn't like it* Thanks for reading, as usual. This may not really be about me, but I'm just...

(That's roughly about $5,000.)

I don't know how much that is in dollars, but that sounds like a lot.

Y'know what? I agree. They won that money fair and square, and the school had nothing to do with it until they heard there was money involved. If you have to bring it to court, I reccomend it.

EDIT: Also, congrats to the Oniichan for winning that contest! Wow. (Oniichan- Japanese term for 'brother'. I think.)

Wow. People suck. My school has pulled dumb stunts, but nothing as bad as that.

Nice to hear your bro's a drummer, I'm a drummer too, and yes, it is not quite a thankless career.

WOW! That was surprising to read. The school has NO right to that money! He won it he keeps it. The trophy is his too. Just because the school told him about it, doesn't mean "We told him, if we didn't he would've never got that money. So we keep half. And the trophy." That sucks! If that where to happen to me I would leave the school. But my school is a grammer school. (Like secondary shcool but better education... And less homework) And there is only 3 around close to where I live. But life goes on. Keep the money! And the trophy. If this is really serious.
Word to the school: "GO TO COURT!" You said you helped a month before, I bet the school didn't even say anything about the money. £2,000 = $4,544.49 to be complety correct. This sucks... I don't know what I'd do if I entered that contest. Sure, I can play solos, but DAMD! **** The SCHOOL!
Au revoir LyokoFreak! I'm leaving forever now.

That SUCKSSS! Nossa Senhora. I can't believe it. Definitely the money should go to them. Especially if the school didn't do anything... were they representing the school at all? Like "This is so and so from ______ School?" If not, then that's just.. no! It's like you win an art contest completely independently and then your school randomly shows up like "HAY SUP GIVE US THE MONEY! 8D" Honestly, they have no right.

...You use pounds. o___o (I didn't know you lived in the UK xD)

That money and trophy is rightfully theirs...errr your friends...not the schools...I think they are definitely trying to pull something here...but fight them every step of the way..court is a good idea. Good luck and keep us updated.

Gaaah! Stupidstupidstupid... the tell-the-youngest-about-our-plans theory came up again. Except, I kinda... eavesdropped with my dad knowing. >>;

Turns out the money WAS supposed to go to the school, but the contest organisers never thought about how much dedication would be made to get to the contest. Changes have been made so that the school gets £100 and the three in the group get £800 each. That still means no charity donation but it might still happen. Apparently, Lee was told very rudely about the money arrangements which started the whole thing in the first place.

Well, that may not be the matter over and done with. The money is being collected tomorrow, but there's going to be a mini-meeting, so to speak. Let's hope no chairs start flying around.

x.O; Hope things work out for the best...and if the contestants (your friends) aren't sufficiently informed beforehand as to where the money goes...shouldn't that mean that whoever was supposed to inform them is held legally responsible for any misunderstandings and aftereffects resulting from it?

x.x; Gah...my head hurts.
