"Unplugged Thursdays" and a new rant.

Postby Jeremified » Sat Jul 22, 2006 8:10 pm

Yeah. So my family is officially having unplugged Thursdays for the rest of the summer. Know what that means? No TV, no PDA, and worst of all, no computer. Which means no Internet, and thus no Lyokofreak. "So what, it's just one day of the week, you whiner!" It's not the fact that I can't be on LF on Thursdays, it's the fact that my parents can still use the phone, computer, laptop, etc. while me and my sister just lay on our beds and do nothing! "Dude, your parents need to work! They have to be plugged in every day to check e-mail and stuff!" I understand that, but it's the fact that they made "unplugged Thursdays" so we could spend quality family time together rather than being in separate rooms staring at a flashing screen, and yet they just shut us in our rooms and have the computer and stuff all to themselves. Last Thursday we spent about 2 hours out of the 12 hour day together. :arg: And most of it was shopping for jewelry and clothes for my mom. *ded* And when I told my mom how I felt about the irony of it all, she sent me to my room. And with no technology... that was basically being grounded. The first time I'd ever been grounded... when we should've been spending time together. I just feel awkward about this... I feel mad because it seems a little like hypocrisy, sad because of... if you don't already know, go read through this thread again, and confused because my parents are being like this.
I just need to get this out of my system, and the Rant section is perfect for it.

Edit New rant. My aunt's pet cat, Boots, died a few days ago. I know it's not really MY pet, but the thing is that I've know that fluffball of happiness all my life. He was about 15 or 16 (WOW, that's a good life), and I'm 13. So I really have known him all my life. I'm just kinda sad because of it.

I feel bad for ya man, but to be honest, there isnt much that can be done about it, they have total control..but I think its wrong that they are doing it for the wrong reasons...they arent spending the time with you and your siblings....at least when my family did things like that, we played board games, and stuff like that.

I wish I knew how to help you, but they pretty much have you tied up..

Okay, you have any action figures in your room? This may seem a little childish, but you can RP with them. :) I do it.

Yeah, but when the plot is extremely boring, it makes you cherish the real world...

Yeah...books can be a great way to pass the time...

Course, I can zone myself out for hours...people tend to think there's something wrong with me when I do that.

Drawing can pass the time, too...even random scribbles...

And yes, RP with figurines, plushies, etc. is incredibly fun. xD Back when I had about 30+ plushies laying around, I'd come up with crazy storylines...t'was so much fun.

(( Waits patiently for her Final Fantasy figurines ))

But I agree Virtualized STI; if the tech-free time on Thursday isn't being used for family time, then it's unjust unless they have some other legit reason.

I've always had one day of the week "unplugged" but because we chose to do it. Everyone sppends quality time, be it just lazing around reading, or playing chess, or going for a walk. I've accually grown to appreciate our unplugged days

What passes my time is thinking of what to do after all of this mess is over.

Heck thinking keeps me happy and busy. Since I have tons of dreams and fantasies I'm just in my own little world.

Some people think I'm deranged.

And if it helps 300 pages if nothing to me. I've read uh what was that book....oh yea 13780 pages. And I'm on chapter 11 out of a million.

So think of me and my book and thank your goodness.

And try not to be so complainy. They won't send you up to your so often and maybe they'll let you off the hook. (I said maybe....)

Also one last thing. Do it. I've cleaned my wohle basment on top of that farm work. Then work around the house. I have a BIG house. Which is stressful. So think of yourslef a lucky one.

I hope you get through. This is the best advice I can give.
No signature apparently. I'm boring....O_O

No offense, but you *are* complaining. It's summer, and I have nothing to do... I *could* be getting a LOT done with my websites and whatnot, but I only get three hours a day on the computer. That's not a lot of time. During the school year, I get two hours during the weekdays. My dad is really, really strict about it, too, and he uses computer time as a method to keep me "in line", meaning that I can't do ANYTHING even remotely leaning towards something he doesn't like, or else he'll easily ground me from the computer for days. How do you think that makes me feel? I barely have time to get anything done online, and so I put all my energy into just trying to keep my sites from falling apart, which leaves my online friends feeling neglected because I simply don't have time to chat with them anymore.

To make things more interesting? My dad ONLY does this to *me* ... He, my step mom, and my stepsisters have all the computer time they like, and can do whatever they please without fear of losing that.

You, my dear, can certainly go one day without technology. Don't be so spoiled.
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

But I do love dancing.

Okay, that unplug thing is just stoopid. My computer is never off, because it actually saves power by not constantly shutting down and starting up. We only restart the computer when you want to switch from linux to windows.

And of course, it's never unplugged because it's not only my access to the internet, but wher my computer skils are passed down, and where my dad does a majority of his work.

But in the meantime, I've taken up drawing, Mostly Manga. Go learn it, it's a great way to pass time!

Wow, that sucks. I also know what it's like to lose a pet. When I was little in the Philippenes we had a dog. I was little so I don't remember much about him, but I do know that I loved him very much, then we moved to the U.S. and we left my old babysitter with him. Everything was fine for a while, then one day he died.

My family was so crushed, then we got a new dog. I loved this dog too, but then my mom felt we couldn't take care of her (that btw is not true) and gave her to my brother's ex-girlfriend.

Some time later we got another dog, one that we adopted. I loved this dog the most, he always waited for me after school and we would play, I loved him so much. But he kept digging in the backyard so my mom gave him to the dog pound, I didn't even get to see him go or say goodbye.

My brother eventually got a new dog. This one we still have right now. But I've tried not to get attached to him, in the fear that we will lose him too.

I'm not really sure what to tell you though, just remember the fun times you had

that sucks man...that cat lived a good life...I used to have a big white fluffy cat similar to the one in the fancy feast commercial...he was the best cat I ever had, so I know how losing a pet can affect you...just remember the good times you and it shared..:)
