School...*pukes*

Postby Jeremified » Sat Nov 25, 2006 3:40 pm

Okay. Long rant coming up.

My parents are paying over 5000 dollars a year for me to attend a private school. So the education should be great, right? Well, yeah, but...

First, there's my math teacher slash vice principal. She's a good teacher; she actually gives extra credit on regular homework. But... it has a catch. Usually we have about 20 math problems to do. If we get them all right, we get a 120%! Sounds good so far... but then for each one we miss, the grade drops 20%. If we miss 6 out of those 20, we get a 0!! AND I'VE HAD HER 3 YEARS STRAIGHT. >>; Also, this may sound a bit exaggerating, but she's kind of sexist. She's vice principal, so she makes lots of big decisions, such as free-dress days (usually we have a uniform). She lets boys have their collared shirts untucked on Fridays, but lets girls wear any shirt they want. Maybe that's not really quite so bad (I mean, girls don't wear shirts with collars...) but it still doesn't seem right that girls get more freedom than boys.

Then there's my science teacher. Wow. You can't drift off for a second without missing something totally important- he doesn't really speak. He mumbles. And that makes it really hard to hear what he's saying. Some of the stuff he just writes down, and other stuff he just says. He NEVER does both... at least I've never witnessed it. He doesn't give much slack, either... sometimes I would miss part of an assignment and end up doing it slightly differently than the way we're supposed to, and I end up writing this 2-page essay for him and I fail it. Is this really part of 8th grade?!

Next... my classmates. Most of them are okay, but there are some cases that can't be solved. This one kid is a real pain in the buttocks. I've noticed something about him: he thinks he's perfect. He gets great grades and he's always the first one done with in-class assignments. Then he makes sure the rest of the class knows! For example, he might say "Teacher, where do we turn in our papers when we're finished?" and most of us aren't even close to done. Well, if he's so perfect, shouldn't he already know the answer?! He's just getting other kids' attention. And this really sounds like I'm exaggerating, but it's EVERY SINGLE TIME. Then one day I decided to try and beat him. I finished one question before him. I told him after class. His response: "I don't give a cr*p! You're gonna fail it and I'm gonna get a better grade anyway!" ..........Yeah. That sums him up pretty well.

The next problematic kids (there's two of them... they sorta ganged up on me) aren't really as annoying as they are bullying. They, like the last kid, think they're perfect. And the place they express this most is in PE class. They suck. I'm sorry, but they really do! They screw up more than the rest of the class put together, but then when I make a mistake, they start mocking me. And they don't just say "I'm better than you", they say "You're worse than me". This is pretty much the same thing, but not really. Kinda hard to say how it works...

The rest of the kids are all right, but this is quite a bit to go through for me, considering the school I went to in the 4th and 5th grade. Over there there weren't really any bullies, and all the teachers were nice. It's really kind of sad to think how different two private schools can be.

Here's a quick story that I have. It took place during lunch/recess, in the gym.
The volleyball nets were set up: one for the 8th graders and one for the 7th. I walked up to my classmates in the 8th grade, and both teams said the same thing. "Go to the other side, they need you more." I saw that they weren't really cooperating very much... there were plenty of ballhogs and kids who didn't even get to touch it. Then I walked over to the 7th grader's net. I saw that they were actually having fun and playing nice. The first thing they said to me:
"Hey, do you wanna play?"
Really makes a difference between grades. It's sad how the people I get to know treat me worse than those who don't know me yet. I'm actually a pretty nice person.
thank you all for the good memories <3

Yeah, you are. :)

I go to private school as well, and it's near the same story. Sure, it's not crazy bad, no drugs or bomb threats or stuff like that, but...you have your fair share of snots, everyone is exactly the same (95% of the girls are of the prep subtype, the 5% being me and maybe one or two others), and UNIFORMS.

And the lower grade does seem to be a lot nicer. Ah, those not ruined by age...wait, what was I saying? Hm.

So far all your replys are from 8th graders. x3

Eh, my year is pretty much the same level than both of ya, only not all the same. I go to a school more public than a bathroom.

That's... pretty weird about the girl shirt/boy collar Fridays. o.O Your vice is weird. All I can say it do your very best in math and learn from your mistakes.

Every school has one kid that thinks s/he's better than everyone else. I have one that has a pet donkey and speaks too fast. And I'm actually 'better' than he is. >.>;

PE is Get Hit On The Head/Face with a ball/Fall down class for me. -.-; That's all I can say.

My science teacher can't control my class and tutors us on how to use scissors. That's all I can say, again. xD

What I do is sit through it- it's not that bad. Just do well in class and ignore everyone and you'll be as dandy as a lion without hayfever.

And Jerfied is nice too. 8D Never worry about not being nice.

Wow.. you're school is f****d up in the head. I mean, I thought private schools were supposed to be all that or sowmthing, or at least have some manner of orderly conduct (for the students AND the teachers). I go to a charter school. (Mostly public, but a little private.) And, aside from a few size problems, it's not so bad XD. Of course, in every school situation thingie, there will always, (hold on, I think you didn't hear me, ALWAYS) be social 'differences' by the viewpoint of someone who is COUGHbetter/coolerCOUGH than you. it's the circle of the school system. Teachers are blind, students see more than they're supposed to and get ahead of themselves. Eh, f*** them. I don't know what to say. there's not much you could do, DESTROY THE FOOLISH ONES!! cough ahem, so, just ignore mostly everything bad and stay true to your friends, and whenever you need to blow off some unwanted steam, give a 'nice' present to them in your mind... that really doesn't help... oh well.

Always stay nice and be yourself. OR, play the reverse psycology (sp?) game, and act like you're better than them and walk past it all. Be like, "I don't care what ya say about me." And if they give you some lip, TESTIFY!! .............. yeah, I've had it with school. I'm in 7th grade, and I know that my grade is nicer than 8th. With some exceptions. Anyways, excuse me, *pukes*

Mhmm, school is a very... odd situation for some people. I was kind of the same through Junior High School. The whole day was a drag until I could come home and relax, didn't really have any friends. Used to hang out with another reject or two, just about every other kid had their own group.

I don't really have much to say about the teachers, other than there isn't much you can do except live and learn. I went to public school up until halfway into 8th, where I got homeschooled (9th now, still homeschooled), and the teachers weren't that bad. The kids though...other students are something else.

I didn't live in an exactly poor area, but not rich either. Most of the kids were associated in little "gangs" (there wasn't any gang activity, just little punks who thought it made them special to be in a group), didn't have any "know-it-alls". Most of the kids were pretty horrible, come to think about it.

Don't know, guess the culture in California is different than other places, with parents usually raising up little street-punks dressing up like gang members, spitting profanities, and acting like they're all that and a bag of chips. I remember a few of them were making fun of Ruby, some girl with down syndrome. Wanted to start something personal with them, but just resorted to telling the teacher. Just goes to show you how low some people can get.

Agh, I keep getting off-topic, don't I? Anyways, just stick it out. I'm sure most of the mean kids will get weeded out by high school. Might as well make friends with the 7th graders though, if they're nice.

It's times like these that I sympathize with XANA... XD.

Sorry. Just thought you might have needed a laugh.

But seriously, The "Perfect Genius..." considering that I kinda am one of the people who... answers a lot, I feel like I should know about this. However, I've never flaunted my intelegence, unlike that creep. My advice? If he ever says anything like what he said to you again, just look at him calmly and say, "Okay." then leave. For best effect, say it in a bored kind of voice, like you don't really care. Trust me, nothing pisses off a smart person more then knowing their ideas and input aren't being used.

As for the (BKO's) in Gym class... if they do worse then you, who cares? They're imbiceles! Trust me on this one: Most of the time, if people do this, they just want to feel better then you because they have no lives and take sadistic pleasure in causing suffering in others. Ignore them. They're idiots.

As for your teacher problem, ask to be assigned to the front row and ask for help from a tutor if your teacher isn't reliable. I don't know about the math teacher, though. Sorry!

OMG

Postby Chosen_one » Wed Nov 29, 2006 9:16 pm

Wow. That is just wrong.

Your math teacher/vice principal gives you 20% off for one problem wrong? Well, that's a bit incorrect there, no?

I can't really give you any advice on teachers since they control the school. But for the two problematic kids, you could try forgetting about being made fun of yourself and start focusing on making fun of them. If they say "You're worse than me," try saying something like "You depend on me to have someone bad enough to compare to?" It might make your reputation go down and it might get you in trouble, but it's fun and you'll feel better.

I don't have any more advice on topic, but I'm sorry your school isn't really working out for you. I'm in eighth grade, too, and it's nowhere near supposed to be that bad.

Wow, and I thought I had it bad! Well, on the bright side, it's already the middle of the 2nd quarter (in my school, anyway). :whatever:

i know what you mean. people can be so hard. i never had it easy in school either. i had one teacher in particular who absolutely hated me for no reason whatsoever. she was just some kind of a b****. and i never really had it good with other students either. they liked me, but they didnt want to hang out with me.

Thanks for replies, guys. I'm glad I'm not the only one!
Actually, I haven't done all the research... it's theorized that the 20% off per each question thingy is that she only checks six of them... but one time I actually did more work than I was supposed to (usually we do problem numbers that are multiples of 3 (3,6,9,12,15,etc.), but this time it was multiples of 5), which meant I did 5/3 the work of the others, and I got a 0 because 4 out of every 5 problems wasn't in the assignment. >>;
