Bad news:
A shovel has five main parts. The Blane, the spade, the crook, th shaft, and the knob. Thes all serve as parts of both defense and offense
the blade offers a sharp point and beveled edge, like a very fin sword mant to cut quickly and gracefully.
The spade, giving a good, solid, an heavy surface with a sligh raised part, giving mor pressure on on spot while still giving equal damage.
The crook, useful for ctaching an opponent or a weapon in midair.
The shaft: Good for blocking! Always!
The Knob: An extra space to hit people is always good...
And a sword is a long blade on a stick, really only offering on attack per throw.With a shovel, since both ends ae weapons, i can block, disarm, an attack in one move.

Good News: there's no way you can beat me with a shovel.
Swords are much faster and much stronger. (not to mention I have quite a bit of skill with swords)
