Which Season was the worst?

Postby MY85 » Fri Feb 16, 2007 2:21 pm

Not everything is perfect in Code Lyoko, and it would be a lie to praise all the episodes as being great, good or perfect. There's always some flaws in the episodes. Even the two first seasons had bad episodes as the third season did. Yep.

Vote on the poll. I hope this spàrks discussion.

And why not voting for the best? There wouldn´t be much to say there.

You know, Season 1 and 2 were great, and though the 3rd was fine, it just wasn't very memorable for me.

Season 3 without a doubt.

Season 1 really bugged me..maybe it's because the 3D animation was a little stiff, they didn't look very flexable as they did in season 2 and 3. Of course though, it WAS the 1st season, the first of the whole series so there was room for improvement and season 2 and 3 brought that.

I would have to say season 1, because it bugged me with the predictable plot.

Season 2 (for me) has been the best one so far. So the "battle" is between season 1 and 3. Season 1 had, in comparison to the rest, a poor CGI quality, a heavy use of recycled scenes and no plot development until the last two episodes. It however established the basic concepts of the show and had some great episodes like "Frontier" and "Ghost Channel" to name only a couple. Season 3, though it was also mostly filler, acts as the bridge between the "old" CL and the new CL, the animation was great and there were some pretty cool episodes (in my opinion) like "Lyoko Minus One ", "False Lead" and "Double Trouble" (this one gets a plus from me because it pissed many fans off... and I liked that... for some reason).

So... I don't know... the worst, for me, has been... Season 1, I guess.

Season three. Lack of Sissi (Flame me and DIE, I'm a Sissi fan and proud of it!), Aelita playing the "Damsel in distress" again, but with a new twist: She's being controlled!, and last, but not least, William. Too much William. Although, any ammount of William is too much, in my opinion.

Oh, and one more: William's "Dreams of fighting with the group." Come on, Moonscoop, you can do better then that. Everyone knows that that's the way Mary Sues get into fanfictions: because they had dreams about Lyoko, and were "Destined to join the group, fall in love with whatever male she wants, and..." you get the point.

Lots of reasons in my view.

1. Lack of Miss Sissi

2. Lack of Jim involvement with Lyoko fights.

3. William.

4. Samantha coming back to a stupid skateboarding contest. :cussout:

5. Jim HOSTING the contest! He should have been in the audience!

6. Lack of JimxSuzanne (two episodes just aren't enough!)

I say saison 1, it was predictable and the plot was shallow. As a true Lyoko freak, I still loved it. But now, their age shows, they were broadcasted too many times in the U.S. Saison 2 was broadcasted completely only 3 times as far as I can remember, Ive needed too many 'refreshers'.

Hey well I'd prefer dreams than William sleep walking and playing it out including the line of "I can't swim" to a random passer by. (Somebody did that with a OC in some story I barely remember)

Well, I cringe when I hear his name. Even if he wants Yumi (which I doubt she'll give to any guy at this point) I never liked him...to me he's just a fake. Somebody with a mask on...

I think the argument here basically boils down to dislike of production values versus dislike of production content. Me, I may not like everything that was decided or done in season 3, but I respect the creator's right to basically take the plot any merry place they want to go. So my vote for worst season is for the cheap production values and repetitive nonsense of season 1, which I most definitely can hold against them.

I'd disagree with Season 1 being the worst season. Season 3 sucked more than season 1 did. Sure that every season has more than one corny moment, but Season 3's another story.

So while the first season had a low budget and repeated things, Season 3 also repeated some stuff from the past seasons. At the prequel, one of the moves Ulrich did on a Block... he pulled it before on Season 2. And also, at another Lyoko region, a move was also repated from Season 1 or 2.

Also, Season 3 suffered from Cartoon Network's "petitions" and the USA children's demands. They got more action, they did. Still, giving us more action was no excuse to give us stale real world moments.

People are saying that the lack of Sissi, William joining the team and not having much episodes made Season 3 suck.

Sissi hasn't been featured enough, but at the first episodes of Season 3, she was portrayed a bit well, then she was sent to the dumpster. That's a side effect of CN's petitions.

William... you know how I feel about the guy's Lyoko outfit. But he was the best for the villian role.

Okay, season 3 had 15 episodes. Still, that was no excuse for Moonscoop to deliver us garbage like Tidal Wave, the overuse of Jim's "I´d rather not talk about it" phrase, the 3 Odds from Triple Trouble and their interactions with Rosa and Jim were painful to watch (the ending saved this episode from sucking... yes, I said I liked this one at first instance, then I saw it again and it kinda sucked), Xana Awakens Part 1, Odd's stinking feet and the Aelita episode was dissapointing as well. And Yumi accepting William on the group sucked too. It should take more than saving the factory to accept a guy who almost tried to harass you. I could go on, but it's kinda late.

Yeah, Season 1 had the same formula of abusing the RTTP. At least, as human beings, you could see some progress of the characthers as human beings in Season 1.

Season 3... better budget, better CGI quality... but all misused. What did Moonscoop do? Suck up to Cartoon Network, make stale moments throughout Season 3, writers don't seem to give a crap about this show as they used to before, and eventually it will all be about selling the CL Merchandise stuff.

Season 1 may have been poorly graphically, but if I started watching Code Lyoko from Season 3, I'd ditch the thing easily.

Season 3 IMO was the worst season so far from all Code Lyoko history.

Let's hope for Season 4 to not suck.

I can't really say I disliked any season in particular; they all seemed to follow the same pattern- mostly filler, with a couple episodes that affected continuity.
I have a criticism for each season, but I can't rank them:
S1: had the least continuity- only the last two episodes had any importance to the overall plot.
S2: XANA was a lot less creative; the "possession" attack was repeated way too many times.
S3: simply fell flat- we saw none of the "counterattacking" Jeremy resolved at the end of S2; for that matter, Jeremy apparently forgot all about the Marabounta (now that its attacking Aetita isn't a problem) or tower activation (which he was getting better at), despite how useful they would be. Also, "Aelita" wasn't nearly as enlightening as I was hoping.

Though I wish it didn't, my gut tells me Season 4 will also be filler-loaded; I'll watch anyway, though, and probably love it- the music and the characters are all good, and the continuity is improving slowly.

If pressed for an opinion, I mostly agree with AmericanLyokoTeam- whatever the writers want to do, I'm fine with.

Season three for me. There was just so little development, too much charachter development, which while necessairy was a bit overdone, and a little too much sudden plot development.

I'd have to go withe season 2; see, Season one was just the beginning so we liked that and didn't know what to expect next. Next, we got a few new characters like William Dunbar and Franz Hopper. Season 2 had pleanty of action (and it was probably my favorite) and plot twists. Season 3, as I've read, is just a bridge from season 3 to season 4. And I can see why; I don't think they just wanted to jump right from all the stuff in 2 to everything in 4 (it would obviously be called 3, but...) so season three was probably put in there to give suspense; make us wait for something exciting to come.

Hmm... For me it's a tie between the first and third seasons - Season 1 because most everybody's impression was "where the heck did all this come from?" anyway, and Season 3 because the systematic destruction of the sectors forces me to date my fanfiction. Granted, the original revision took place shortly after Season 2, but now the rewrites have to somehow wrap around a post-S3 timeline where there really isn't enough action.

It's funny that Seasons 1 and 3 have been tied literally the entire thread.

I said Season 1, it didn't have much plot or continuity until the last two episodes. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but the other seasons just were better.
