whoopsiedasie...dellima. this could be bad

Postby Lola » Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:24 pm

this only just happened like 20 minutes ago. but it started like a month ago.
ok I have this friend David and we used to go out. then we broke up. and he got a new gf and I never see him anymore. I still want to be his friend but I never get to hang out with him anymore because hes always over there. And I don't like his new gf whos name is Katie. she makes a lot of sex jokes. what he likes so much about her I dont know. anyway. so I wanted to try to start hanging out with him again. so I got with him on the one thing we had in common. we both know karate. so I asked him to teach me some more karate so I could hang out with him and learn some cool new tricks but he says
"you already know everything there is for your rank. youve been taught all the omega stuff. all there is now is the master stuff."
so I say
"can I learn the master stuff?"
and he goes
"sure. I'll start teaching you this weekend."
so he taught me a bunch of really cool stuff. unfortunately we both got a little beat up in the process cuz thats just howe we do things cuz its supposed to make u stronger and faster and stuff. i dunno I don't like it but I got to spend time with my old friend who I don't see anymore and miss.

but today I was studying with my friend Nick who taught karate to me and David and my friend Sean and him and David are pretty much the head hanchos big kahunas of it. so I was randomly thinking off topic while im studying which I have a bad habbit of doing and i realized something.
I WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO LEARN ANY OF THAT STUFF!!
cuz ya see before you can learn the stuff you have to be at that rank. I learned master stuff at my rank which is called like omega or something and its lower than master. I never tried to upgrade to master and I don't think Nick ever knew I was taught the stuff.

I can keep this secret and probably break a very important rule. there were so many rules to this karate I don't even remember all of them. or I can be honest and show Nick I learned them and if I do say so myself I'm pretty good at them. but if I show him it could cause a lot of tension between him and David and they're really good friends. what do I do?

AHHHH I WISH I NEVER LEARNED THIS KARATE STUFF BUT I CANT LIVE WITHOUT IT ITS HELPED ME SO MUCH!!!

Ay! No copying my phrases.

My suggestion is to just talk to a friend or mentor about it. That's why they're there. And it's not like you can un-learn it any time soon.

And please slap nick in the back of the head. Say It's from AB. He still owes me. :pbthbb:

lol I'll slap him if I know what he did. I won't just slap him for no reason hes my friend.

well we playfought a couple days ago and I showed him like a spin kick called a tornado that David taught me. of course he caught on right away. luckily he didnt catch my leg. that would have sucked. but he asked me where I got that move from and I lied and told him it was from "watching" David. I didnt want to lie to him I just did. I think he bought it. because he said "good work" I remember now it was always a good thing to us if you could learn something by watching it. anyway. I don't know if I should feel good about that or not.

Of course, if you don't lie to begin with, then you don't have to get worrying about lying so bad that it mucks up your life....

Lola, I am also a martial artist part of martial arts is about striving to be the best that you can be. Karate is the way of the open palm. Originally those who took Karate learned not only the stuff that they had to learn but they were constantly pushing themselves to be better. At the dojo that I train at we are constantly striving to be better, we actually teach the younger belts more advanced moves so that they will be prepared to move up to the next belt. I am ranked a red-black belt in Karate, and a fourth degree brown in Tae Kwon Do, I also know jujitsu, and judo. If you are worried then tell him, but also know that by learning more advanced moves you are preparing yourself to move up to the next level. A good Martial Artist is about Determination, Control, Disciplain, Respect, Dedication, Leadership, just to name a few. You are showing these by wanting to learn more, and that is great as long as you have the requirements that are for your belt level down before learning more difficult techniques. Also be careful that the techniques you are learning are not too advanced that you will hurt your self, and be careful with what you do. Just pm me if you would like to talk.

I don't know much about karate, but I have taken aiki-jitsu classes (dropped it because of physical problems, but I'm going to try taking it up again next week). Anyway, in aiki-jitsu, they teach and show techniques that are sometimes way beyond what a person's skill level is, and they encourage people to participate when they feel ready. This is because to learn a technique properly, you have to perform it many many times (because martial arts depends on muscle memory, since you can't afford to think your way through a technique in a fight).

Now, you do have to know certain things in order to progress in rank, but there is seldom any harm in learning something new. I think in this case, if you get in trouble at all, it would be more because you were being taught new techniques without the supervision of a teacher (generally a black belt). I don't know the karate ranks, though, so it may be that this person was already at the rank of a black belt or the equivalent. If that's the case, you should have little to worry about. And I doubt you'll be severely punished for showing a zeal to learn more techniques. But you should definitely talk to your dojo instructors about it, just in case.
