Code Lyoko DS reviewed on X-Play

Postby MY85 » Mon Jul 02, 2007 3:46 am

Click.

Warning: Don't watch if you like CL too much.

The game is average from what I've seen. RL scenes are meh and the Lyoko scenes are quite decent at best IMO. I loved to see Morgan Webb taking a shot against Code Lyoko, I found it quite funny. I needed to hear the con-CL reviews rather than the biased pro-CL reviews (the kind of reviews made by a CL fan to <s>kiss *ss</s> worship the videogame and show).

I think this review deserves a thread of its own.

It most certainly does.

I haven't played the game, but I've got to say, it doesn't look that appealing. The first line, "I know, it sounds a lot like Tron in black turtlenecks" was hilarious, but the rest of the review was meh. They try too hard to be funny, and it just fails miserably. The score, based on what I've seen and experienced (from other games), seems fair enough.

Some parts I have to disagree what Morgan said but I did like the hover dam part.

X-Play is a TERRIBLE way to find out how good a game is. In their review for Ape Escape 2 they said Jimmy had the personality of a turnip (which is true butanywaycough) and made a monkey joke every five seconds. They even said one of the monkey pictures they used in it looked like one of the reviewers. >_> They focus more on dissing the game in a humourous way rather than showing people how good the game actually is.

It's better to find out what you can about a game before reading/watching a proper review from someone like Gamespot or IGN who actually KNOW how to review a game. That on top of the footage you've seen should let you decide for yourself whether this game is a yes or a no.

I tend not to buy TV-based games anyway. I might rent CL for the day or something.

Meh, I think she tried to be funny and clever and failed miserably. However, based on what I've seen so far, the score the game received wasn't so far from what it deserves.

Edit: I just realized I pretty much repeated what Gauntlet said ^^...

I would hope that people don't just watch X-Play to decide which games to buy. I agree with most when you guys say X-Play tries to hard to be funny... I miss the days pre-G4TV when Adam Sessler had his own show (sorry but I can't stand Morgan Webb). The reviews were better informed and they didn't try so hard D:

I agree, it's a good game, but if you like the tv show, I think it makes for an even greater game lol :*D

She threw in so many unnecessary points in there that doesn't even relate to the gameplay itself.

Ugh, I hate X-Play. However, I never expected this game to turn out that well, anyway. It really didn't look all that appealing to me.

Now I see him putting my quote on his sig. He better remove that 'cause I'm not too fond of anyone boosting their ego at my expense. It feels kinda annoying.

I agree with the review 100%, although I expected the game to suck and bought it anyway man it's really nothing amazing at all.

Whats more sad then a person getting their ego enlarged at the expense of another over the internet? The one who takes offense to it. So don't, and then we can just secretly mock the other guy :P

You can put that thing back on your sig if you wish. I don't even care about it anymore. I'm not much used to jokes against me, but that one isn't that worthy to get pissed off.

Proves the point that most CL fans are somewhat biased. I find the threats they do to Morgan Webb more amusing.

That said, Morgan Webb is quite hot. :P

There's not enough material about Morgan Webb to make her worthy of a BKO thread. She's pretty and worthy to shag according to her FHM session, but well...

What's the topic of this thread? Oh yes, the CL DS review Webb made.

Ah yes, and cursing outside of BKO is acceptable.

Oh wait, I didn't see the asterisk symbol. That makes it okay after all, doesn't it? Pah.

No offense, but airbrushing can make anyone look super hot. :P

Just a bit of a side note, I didn't like Morgan Webb even before I watched Code Lyoko... So I don't consider myself biased :P
I can't stand how she made herself the center of attention on shows like the Screen Savers (On TechTV before it was bought by G4TV). I don't like how she took Adam Sessler's good, solo video game review show (Extended Play was a really good, intelligent show, until they seemed to 'dumb it up' and tried to show off Webb's goods way too much). Plus there's a lot of info going around that she doesn't even play the games prior to reviewing/spouting her opinion about it.

I don't think the Code Lyoko game was perfect and I wouldn't give it a 10/10 either. There are actually a lot of glitches in the game, I've discovered (after countless times of replaying lol). But personally I think X-Play is spending too much time trying to find things in games they review to poke fun at rather than... wow, actually talking about points of the game (ie. graphics, gameplay, storyline, characters, voice acting *if applicable*, controls, etc.)!

Sorry I used to be a video game reviewer so I can't help but nitpick! lol

Omg... that video interview was flippin hilarious. Though, it deserved way more than two stars. I guess the review was really for laughs, and I would never go read or watch reviews from them, because, as others of you have said, she's just dissing the show, not really telling much about the game.

Heh, ironically, the show's better than the game. Actually, I don't know if that is the case, but I figured it would be. I didn't expect the game to be all that great. I love the show, though. Well, obviously. That's why I hang out here with you guys... Hey, it beats hanging out at Sonic forums 24/7!

Rofl, that was the funniest review I've ever seen XD though I normally wouldn't agree with it, I tend to agree that it looked pretty crappy.
I also have no comment on those pictures...

For those who haven't watched X-Play much before, they always liberally insult the game for about 80% of the review. Their actual scores, though, are generally accurate. A good example is their Pokemon Emerald review-they spent about 3 minutes engaged in ordinary Pokemon-bashing, then spent one explaining that it was actually a pretty good gaming and giving it a 4 out of 5 :)

From what I've heard about the game previously, their review seems to be pretty accurate... although what was it exactly? I've boycotted everything G4 since they killed TechTV... ;__;
I like short signatures. Do you?
