"interference" by Cartoon Network?

Postby Lyoko Wario » Wed Jul 04, 2007 9:37 pm

I just finished reading some of the comments on the latest episode to date (about Skid / Melanie the submarine, but you know that) and one of you mentioned that the scene of Ulrich and Yumi sleeping side by side was left in without "interference" by Cartoon Network. I assume this means that the Network, being the wonderful group of modern American cartoonists that they are, have edited out some scenes from CL they thought would be inappropriate for younger audiences. I sincerely hope I'm wrong, but could someone tell me about this? I really hate it when someone messes with another artist's work, and my dear country takes such liberties with that. It's so disrespectful. :arg:

So... can anyone tell me in what instances we've had interference?

Also, sorry about the inane topic. I'll have something interesting to say soon enough. :D

The whole "just friends" comment by Yumi, for example.

Hold the phone! Are you serious about that? If I remember correctly, that happened sometime at the beginning of the third season, but they would have needed to do a complete overhaul of the original dialogue in order for that to fit in well with the image. So, what was Yumi really supposed to say in that episode? It's hard to believe they could make it work so well. I would have never doubted that that was accurate translation of the original dialogue, and to me it seemed to be an ordinary vehicle for drama in the series.

I think what's being referred to is that Cartoon Network gives input to the creators of Code Lyoko. 'Interference' would be that they wanted to tone down the romance and put more action into it.
What will you remember me for?

The only things I've ever known to be cut are just random scenes that don't mean anything, probably so CN could fit in another commerical break. (The US has two of them in the middle instead of one like in Britian, right?)

Swarming Attack apparently had stuff cut out from the French version too, but I don't know much about what was cut- whether it was meaningless too or some Y/U was cut out. I think it's the former. That's all I know about 'interference' as you called it.

No scenes have ever been cut out of any Code Lyoko episode (neither have they been censored, ie. blood removed, etc. ). The only things that have ever been cut from a CL episode were the "Transition" segments, the little short scenes of the kids in their Lyoko forms and their logos.

Those were later brought back for good in season 2 and beyond, I believe. ^^

Anyway, so far as content goes, the jury is still out on that...different people will tell you different things and/or different sides of the story...it gets kind of complicated really. *sweatdrops*
