And now it's time for another episode of Midnight Rants with Zex Marquise, the part of the show where Zex comes out and gives a midnight rant. This particular episode has been brought to you during daylight, and so its length may suffer from lack of insanity.
50 eps, starts off slowly, but has better characters and storyline than most shows I've seen. More alliances, betrayals, and plot twists than your brain can handle, and you never know for sure who is on the good side and who is on the bad side. I would advise the Japanese audio w/ English subs only. The English dub is just... bad. It has a movie sequel called Endless Waltz. You might watch that one first to see if it gets your interest. English on that one is okay.
Zechs Marquise is the good guy/ bad guy from G-Wing. He is very deep and complicated, like most of the show's characters, and has a dark and haunting past. He fights for vengeance and for honor, and is a great warrior and leader.
He was a royal member of a kingdom that was destroyed by the Earth Sphere Alliance. In order to hide, as well as get close to the Alliance for his revenge, he joined a sub-group known as OZ. Keep you enemies closer, you know? He hid his true identity as Milliardo Peacecraft behind a mask, and out of the fires of the burning Sanc Kingdom, Zechs Marquise was born. He quickly made friends with the future leader of OZ, Treize Kushranada, and together they staged a world-wide coup d'état (kudos to the French for another cool word) by planting loyal OZ soldiers at every Alliance base. He later left OZ because he didn't agree with the imperialistic direction it was taking. He began to fight for the independence of the Colonies against OZ and eventually wound up as leader of the White Fang, a group of rebels fighting against Earth for independence. He built a massive warship called Libra with a BFG beam cannon housed in it. There was a massive space battle between the forces of OZ protecting Earth, lead by Treize, and the forces of White Fang fighting for the colonies, led by Zechs. The Gundam boys (the five main characters of the show) are caught in the middle most of the time, trying to end the war one way or the other. Zechs gets a little psycho, and uses the BFG cannon on Libra to attack Earth. Everyone tries to stop him, including the Gundams, and there is a fantastic duel between Zechs, in the Epion, and Heero Yuy, in Wing Zero. At the end Libra begins to crash to Earth with it's five nuclear reactors, threatening to cause permanent nuclear winter. Zechs finally sees the light, and disables the main reactor with his huge beam saber. Heero Yuy cleans up the debris with his buster cannon, lots of pretty explosions ensue, and the world is saved. Yay!
That about sums up the important events in G-Wing. Sort of a readers digest version. How did I do, fellow GW fans?
Anyways, my point is that Zechs was cool beck in the '90s, is cool now, and will still be cool in fifty years. Now you know.
