I'm not usually in the habit of defending China, but the importer should have figured out that getting a fake license was not the way to go...
I like short signatures. Do you?

Um, what are you talking about? There are a ton of import cartoons in China. Enough to spur a movement to promote domestic cartoons because of the huge influx. However, the termination of Code Lyoko has nothing to do with that.

JesusFreak wrote:Cl doesn't have anything NEAR "Capitalist Pig-Dog Propaganda"!!!

Yeah. Okay. This was not why, do not get upset, the reasons were already stated, China doesn't believe in capitalist pig-dog propaganda in their cartoons any more than you believe in Communist propaganda in yours. Which I hope for you is not too much.

This. This 100%. Something like this wouldn't fly in America, so naturally it wouldn't fly there. There's still no release on why they had to get a fake license in the first place, right? Until then, Chinese CL is considered illegal there and a bootleg for profit here.

Not to worry, they're watching Seasons 3 and 4 with the rest of us with the help of some very friendly fansubbers.

Tip: Xuhuanyongshi means "Virtual Warriors." And only in mainland China.

I am 100% Chinese, I was born in China, and theoretically I should know Chinese lifestyle and way of doing things more than any American would, no offense, so…

First of all, this has nothing to do with communism or the Communist Party. True, the Communist Party started the Propaganda Ministry, but it's not because of content that the show was banned; it's because westerners were afraid of getting banned.

Second, airing is illegal because THE COMPANY LIED. That means that in China it is the same as A PIRATED DVD, which in China you would see EVERYWHERE, sometimes even pirated pirated DVDs. The only difference is that somebody FOUND OUT.

wartonchan wrote:They banned CL from China because CL was not "Made in China" and that they obtained a fake license.
Not because it wasn't made in China, but because they said it was made in China, but they lied.

Third, my dad knows the guy who censors stuff; if he were to talk to him…

China still scares me. :< Seriously. The thought of government departments like that actually existing...

You SHOULD STOP randomly CAPSLOCKING. It GETS kind of ANNOYING. <3

I'm sure they would do it legally if it were possible.

he wasn't randomly capitalising, he was driving his point home.

And the only reason why it was banned was because the company lied, so I stand by the Chinese government in their decision.

I didn't say I didn't agree with the decision on these grounds. It's just that Moonscoop seems like a respectable company to me and wouldn't do such a thing. But of course these were pirates, correct?

I just wonder that if it were done properly (if it's possible *cough*), would it still be banned?

No, it wouldn't. In fact, most of the young people's shows in China are foreign-made; I haven't seen a single Chinese cartoon since I was two.

Most media that doesn't publish in China (mainly anime and some American films) are still enjoyed by a vast majority of Chinese youth via pirates and crappy fansubs. Honestly, if you went to a Chinese market, you'd see these stalls everywhere selling fake Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, GameBoy ROMs (in cartridges), fake Pokémon cards that say things like "32 HP," and illegal movies. So far, I have yet to see any sort of media in China that doesn't violate copyright or licensing law.

Yep. Everyone knows that in China the black market is at least 3x bigger than the regular market.

*EDIT*

I'd just like to clear something up. Because I went to school in English, I have difficulty reading legal stuff in languages other than English, so I had my dad read the government notice wartonchan put up for me, and here's a summary:

Code Lyoko was banned from China because a company from Shanghai called Anliwei LLC somehow obtained the Code Lyoko episodes and aired them without the permission of Moonscoop and claimed the show as its own creation, licensing it as a domestically-produced cartoon. So technically, the Mandarin version of Code Lyoko was stolen and dubbed illegally by Anliwei LLC, and as soon as the authorities found out, they removed it from the schedules. Please note that things like this happen relatively frequently (though not usually) in China, where one company steals some other company's shows and claims them as their own.

Please also note that Code Lyoko was not censored; it was removed. If I bought some Azumanga Daioh DVDs at Best Buy and aired them in the United States, saying that my company made Azumanga Daioh in the United States, there is no doubt that Azumanga Daioh would be removed from air. It's just that in our case, Moonscoop never released Code Lyoko in China, and the pirated version got banned.
