CLICK, AND BE ASTOUNDED!

Nothing special I know - it doesn't add anything to the show, but it's something that Tania Palumbo and Thomas Romain made in Animation School - some of these characters we are very familiar with, others we've only seen on the Garage Kids concept art.

I MEAN! THIS FREAKING PREDATES GARAGE KIDS!

What's the story behind this? - did Tania and Thomas just animate this small project for kicks, not thinking any more of it - did they then think they'd like to do something with the characters - something bigger, something grander, something...more...

One thing we can say for sure, they had no idea how big this would become...

Sweet, sweet Jebus...(passes out in shock)

*blinks* Good gravy...I know <i>exactly</i> what this is!! *jumps up and down excitedly*

This is so cool! What an awesome find! Apparently, Thomas Romain and Tania Palumbo (or one of the two of them) must have had the honor to do the Intro animation for the 2000 Annecy Animation festival in Paris, France!

Since Thomas Romain and Tania Palumbo both are alums of Gobelins (a prestigious French animation school), back in 2000 (quite possibly when they were still attending Gobelins), they were selected to create the intro reel...and they used their future Garage Kids characters! Sweet!!!!

(...And we finally know where that little toddler kid came from now. XD )

That is really cool. I had no idea that Thomas Romain and/or Tania Palumbo did an animation for Annecy! That's so neat!

Thanks so much for the find, TB3! :D

Lol - this reinforces my belief that Tania and Thomas based the characters off themselves and their classmates - I already know Jeremie was based off a classmate called Jeremie Perin (I've Myspaced with the guy), and apparently there's a lot of Tania in Yumi, but what about the others?

It is a treat to see a little more of the lush animation that Garage Kids used though, short as it is - Yumi looks soooo cute

(pause)

To my horror, I just realized I didn't notice the absence of Aelita (kneels prostrate on ground) FORGIVE ME PINKED-HAIRED-ANGEL-OF-AWESOMENESS!

Ulrich might have been based off of another classmate, if not Thomas himself...although something tells me the inspiration for Odd might have come from Thomas...not sure why, just a feeling (noting that Odd was the only other "well-established" character in the GK pilot, other than Yumi).

Indeed...and I love their little hand-drawn pirate flick. xD

XD; But of course, we all know, that Aelita didn't come along until 2004. ;) I heard it in a documentary somewhere...the name of it escapes me though... *winks and snickers* (j/k)

My god, I'm actually better then TB3 at something...

Sorry, not mocking or anything, just... wow...

Then again, I was kind of expecting it... I don't know why, maybe because I thought Aelita was created for Lyoko, and she didn't really exist at the time of Garage Kids, not to mention she never showed up in any of the character design sheets for Garage Kids, so...

Hmm, wow... pretty nice, and the characters ('specially the ladies) look cute. ^_^ I see Jeremie, Ulrich, Yumi, Odd (no one else mentioned him), Milly, Tamiya, and... KIWI! Yes, though, Aelita isn't in this--Aelita wasn't even in Garage Kids, either. As I recall, Aelita didn't come around until Code Lyoko first started.

I think the official explanation is that it's a self replicating idea. Merely by seeing it, some are compelled to pass it on by way of repetition.

In practice its something that gets posted a lot because various people like it.

A great example of a Meme would be "series of tubes" or "Vote for Pedro".

As for this video, Teebs seriously, how do you find this stuff? I couldn't even find my own forum without using the bookmark the first 100 times. This is a really ace find, though. Thanks for being so obsessed with Code Lyoko-related stuff. Always something new from The Teebs.

So, if we were to compare CL to anthropology...

Code Lyoko: Modern History

Garage Kids: Stone Age

This new video: Prehistoric, something like "Lucy"

Sketches and ideas the characters had prior to that: Prehistory.

Awesome find there. I had to rewatch it a few times to spot everyone. Again, I love the darker tones of the animation, I really wish they kept those, it adds a certain...depth I guess. It's got a Miyazaki-like detail to it.

Great find! Very interesting, and kind of neat how it shows the gang and a bunch of other major/minor CL characters, in addition to various other random people (who may have been intended to be part of GK at one point). I like the animation style a lot though, and like you guys, I wish they'd kept at least a few aspects of it.

That's amazing. It's like if Captain Beefheart made this film with the guys in Code Lyoko.

I'd like to see Aelita on that album cover with the fish face.

The title (Les Enfants au cinéma) means "children with the theater" in French, in case you guys didn't know.

Actually, it means "Children of the (or "at the") theater", but that's if one wants to be really technical. ;)

^^

Apparently a character that they intended to use for Garage Kids, but that ultimately didn't make it in as an extra for "Code Lyoko" (might have been a copyright thing...or just a personal choice...who knows XD; ).

One of these days, I'd love to ask Ms. Tania Palumbo if they ever had names for all of those characters in GK...and also about her experiences at Gobelins. ^^

Oh yeah. Oops. And it makes sense, doesn't it? Because that's what the characters are - children. :)
