On Xana's Chinese name

Postby Beikoku no rikugun » Mon Nov 05, 2007 10:41 pm

In the (Now banned) Chinese version of Code Lyoko, there are always subtitles that show what the characters are saying. This is probably because Chinese is a very vague language with lots of homonyms. In these subtitles, "Xana" is written with this symbol:

The first half is "Shan" pronounced with a high pitched voice. When "Shan" is pronounced with a high pitched voice, it menas "Mountain". The second half is "na", pronounced with a rising pitch in the voice. This word can mean take, hold in the hand, capture, or arrest. So Xana's Chinese name is "Shan-na" with the "Shan" pronounced with a high pitch and the "na" pronounced with a rising pitch. Also, I noticed in the videos of the Chinese version that they call Yumi "Yaomei", which could mean "want beauty", if said with the voice pitch. It also seems that the last character in Jeremy's name is ming wit a rising pitch, which means "bright". PLEASE COMMENT.
