Holiday Season 2007/8

Postby JesusFreak » Tue Dec 04, 2007 12:05 pm

Ah, "tis time for Christmas, a double-edged holiday. "Tis also time for Hanukah, or however it's spelled. "Tis also also time for Kwanzaa (What IS Kwanzaa, anyway?). Tis time for the stupid Christmas radio stations that have two DJs who seems to be on some sort of Stimulant. "Tis Time for the luudicrously large shopping season. "Tis time for Gifts. "Tis Time For Santa/Father Frost/Odin/Master Chief to come and give little boys and girls their Nintendo Wiis and Webkinz.

What are yer thoughts on this Wonderfully overcommercialized time of Year?

I love Christmas. It's a wonderful time where you spend time with family and friends. And it's also the time where we celebrate the birthday of the Son of God. :)

Better Christmas be commericalized than Easter, I figure. After all, which one is really more significant?

I like the season, though. In the holiday sense, not the temperature. The weather outside is frightful, and the fire is so delightful. But they drag us all off to school; let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! (30% chance tonight for us, but probably only an inch or so even then.)

I like Christmas music- particularly any rock version of "Carol of the Bells".

Ring silver bells!
Sweet silver bells!
All seem to say,
throw cares away!
Christmas is here!
Bringing good cheer!
To young and old!
I forget the rest!

But this part has really awesome music,
daa da-da DA da duh da-da-da.
Buh duh duh duh Da DA Daaa duh!
Buh duh duh duh Da DA Daaa duh!
...
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

BEST. CAROL. EVER.

You're right. They kinda did commercialize Easter with those Barbarian Egg traditions, but its the thought that counts, right?

Where do I sign up to have Master Chief bring me my gifts? Screw Santa XD

My thoughts on this over commercialized time of year, huh? My dad and I were actually having a talk about something similar the other day, how it seems these days that people only give gifts to get something in return. I think that the over commercialization just reflects the general greed of our society these days, the "GIMMEGIMMEGIMME" aspect.

However, I personally think that if even one person gives out of the goodness of their heart and eschews anything in return; that if they wrap themselves in the true joy of Christmas, Chanukah, or whatever they celebrate; if they continue on through all the "I hate this holiday" and "Bah humbug"s in the world, then it's all worth it, as long as that one person still believes.

....Okay, that sounds mega-sappy. Oh well xD

I'll take the Chief or Odin delivering my presents over a big fat white guy in a suit any day of the week. After all, hasn't that been the United States' foreign policy plan for the last fifty years? :arg:

But I digress.

I haven't even written my lists! And why do all the stuff I like cost so much?

Kind of a pessimistic intro to the Christmas thread.

Anyway, I suppose I'm excited. I have vacation, and gifts are cool.

But wiping snow from the driveway and the car is just enough for me want to cut off my hand so I don't feel my hand freeze. It gets annoying.

At lease I won't be miserable like I was last holiday season.

I really just don't have much to say, really.

I love and hate Christmas. I hate the commercialism. I love that it brings together family and friends and you get off of school. I hate how people say X-mas (and no, the it's short excuse doesn't make a hill of beans difference to me, you're taking Christ out of the equation). But nonetheless, it's a nice time of year.

Christmas is like this nowadays, you have to buy presents to prove that you love your family. I'm not claiming that this happens everywhere, though.

This time of year is when my wallet cries out in pain, my waistline expands, and I have a blast through it all, even the blizzards that none of the weather forecasters predicted (LIKE TODAY!). I am old enough where the holidays have lost a lot of their luster, but it is still a very enjoyable time of year.

Exactly, at 24, I just enjoy the time spent with family and friends, eat some good food, laugh about the past, and look forward to the coming year. Presents and all that other stuff are good too, just not as important as the bonds we share with our loved ones, friends and family alike.

I hope your weather is not gonna be too bad Stoney. Some snow is good, but over a few inches, and it becomes a pain.
