Well, the way I see it, the body is a vessel for the soul, right? It's the sentient rights of the soul that is the subject here, not the vessel. Science has shown that a baby in the womb doesn't begin to have basic brain activity until about three weeks or something around there. SO if we can assume that brain function begins at the point the soul has entered the body, then it is at that point that it changes from a procedure to remove something to actually murdering a living being. I mean, if it threatens the woman's life, who has already been alive for some time, shouldn't it make sense to get it aborted rather than have the baby AND the mother die? Maybe that's why God gave the three week period of no brain activity. Like a failsafe. Does that make sense?

Oh boy, long post...

Paragraph 1:
Yes, but I fail to see your point.

Paragraph 2: All that is physical. Do ants talk on the meaning of life? All teh physical things they do are very impressive (but the beetles are still awesome) but they don't think in the same detail of us. I stand corrected on the pheremone thing, I apologise.

Paragraph 3:

But aren't we talkign about the intermediate forms? wouldn't the muscle structure be a composite of the Shrew and the Bat? Adn could you please show me a transitory form of a Shrat? one that can't be passed of as 100% bat?

You know what, Abortion deals with the physical sense. Murder is defined by the physical sense. We live in the Physical sense. All religeous matter is circumstancial.

And no such image exists. It was surpassed by the bat, so it became extinct. As of right now, the shrew bat does niot exist any more. it has become obsolete, and diversed into the shrew and bat.All other forms died out.

[mod]But let's say we get back ON TPOPIC right now. [/mod]

I'm not talking about the spiritual sense, I'm talkig about the mental sense, which we live in too. without the mental sense, we would all act on reflex, and such. The issue of abortion is also mental, due to its effects on the mother's psychological health and the debate of if you are killing a fully thinking child.

I meant a FOSSIL, not an Image.

You can't talk about abortion without talking about humanity, and you can't talk about humanity without talking about where we came from.

Actually, yes, you can, (you all did it for at least 4 pages or so beforehand) which I suggest you try to do again. This topic is about whether or not abortion should be outlawed and that is it. Anything else is off-topic. *sweatdrops*

Diverting every once in a while to point out something related to your original stand on the issue is fine, but this is turning into an evolution debate which is not what this thread was made for.

Now please get back on topic or this thread could end up getting locked. ^^; Thanks.

Some good news:

Stem Cell Breakthrough Is Like 'Turning Lead Into Gold'

A medical breakthrough indeed - regardless of the ethical debate, the stem-cell yield from this process would be presumably much higher than via embryo samplings.

Seems Alchemy is alive and well :D

Three cheers for the Full Dandruff Alcheimist! :D

That's certainly an interesting development, being able to turn skin cells into neutral cellls? Whoda thunk it?

Abortion is killing; there's no doubt about that much. No matter how soon you find out about a baby, it's already alive and it has a soul just as we do. Some might say that this is similar to assisted suicide- somehow- but I fail to see how the two deaths connect. The baby cannot have a say in whether it dies or not; it's actually a selfish act IMO, because you're choosing to leave the responsibility behind at the baby's expense.

On the subject of stem-cell research, the idea of getting a stem-cell from something other than a fetus would definitely make me turn against the old method. If we're able to do this research without killing a human, by all means, do it.
One thing that disappoints me about this new discovery is that it wasn't made earlier. I suppose we couldn't control that, but I'd rather we didn't use fetuses for the research now that we have a new method.

You know what amazes me? How someone can say their opinion, then scream it two pages longer. This intrigues me...

I'm with AB here Jeremified - we weren't even talking about Abortion at the time, so why you need to restate a previously stated opinion, at the risk of a further flame war, is beyond me.

I would like to remind everyone as well, that if this thread does descend into further proverbial muck-slinging, it will be locked - we've currently achieved a nice, peaceful climate here and it would be nice if people could continue to calmly discuss this in light of that.

We were discussing this breakthrough in skin-cells-to-stem-cells research, which have a bearing on Abortion, but then you suddenly came into the middle of the conversation to restate an opinion for seemingly no purpose.

Okay, look, the last thing I want to do is start a conflict, seeing that there must've been one earlier in the thread. I've edited my post above.

I'm all for the idea of building spare organs for those who need it, but I don't think we should grow full fetuses because then that would make the human reproductive system obsolete, and we'd lose our purpose. And then after that, humans alltogether, so there'd be no point in making fetuses any more.
