There's a not-too-known stereotype regarding Filipino families that each family has at least one itak (bolo knife/machete) kept per household. Apparently, we have one at our house too (I always wondered how my dad was able to sneak the knife past the detectors when we first arrived to this country)... anyway, I'm mumbling.
I was born and raised in the Philippines and I generally know a lot about my culture. Relating to CL somewhat I already knew Pencak Silat (though it's originated from Indonesia) when I was a kid. It's a common martial art (along w/ traditional Filipino martial arts like Arnis/Escrima/Kali and such) and some of my cousins used to train in that martial art. Anyway I'll shut up now. x.x
