I'm against all things vampiric as a principle, so I'm not even gonna touch this subject and bring anyone down.

Oh, I do like the series because it's well written and because it's a popular story with some really good reviews.

Sorry, this just frames it too well for my view.

Sorry for burning your eyes out with armstrong-brand shojou sparkle.

Apparently, if you're under 15, it's a great, romantic novel that makes youfeel all warm inside and makes you seem mature because, hey, vampires are downright smexy.

If you're over 15, you want to get the Pyros and go all flametorch on its bindings.

I remember some freshman in a class of mine reading it, and I heard what they said. I checked it out in the library that day... And I couldn't get past the first page. I'm sorry for my weakness. I'd rather take anything overly-japanese-shojou-ized any day.

I read a lot and my friends actually got me into vampire novels. The things I really like to read are manga. But I'm guilty of reading vampire manga too. I'm classified as a geek because I like to read a lot, and because I've been learning Japanese on my own. But If anyone has read the second book in the Twilight series I'm really mad at one of the main characters, and I feel bad for the other main character. Oh well right, it's just a book so I'll get over it. I find it funny how I get so attached to books and then it feels like I'm in the book. But the Twilight series is very well written to my standerds and it sparks my interest. I can admit I'm very odd when it comes to books. :D. I <3 the Twilight series!

I find vampire stories fundamentally uninteresting. That's why I haven't touched any of the books, but I have friends with sickly obsessions with the series that are making me reconsider. Now that there's a movie coming out, I just may give them a go. By the way, I'm trying to write a comedic vampire story (novel) that pokes fun at all these conventional elements of modern horror with a brief homage to the gothic variety. If anyone has any good advice on how to pen a mystery, please give me a holler on that "writing advice" topic that nobody cared about...

HAHA! That was GREAT! While I do like some aspects of the series, a lot of it just gets on my nerves. I read all 3 books...but Bella annoyed me. Can anyone say "Mary-Sue"? Just because she gets trapped in places sometimes doesn't mean she's not one. She always gets Edward to run after her and save her. I feel bad for Jacob. Poor guy is just overrun by Edward when he comes into town.

And did anyone notice how EVERYONE knew Bella when she came into school? And EVERYONE was liking her and checking her out? And EVERYONE wanted to be friends with her? Okay, stuff doesn't happen like that.

*laughs at Twilight manga in URL up above* That was great. I loved the frolicking part. Edward was like -.- I wanna see one about Jacob :D

Lol at Edward's face though =D

I personally read the books for Jacob. Edward never did a thing for me because he's irrational and no true man can sparkle.

Bella isn't what I'd call a "Mary-Sue" as much as she's "whiny, lucky, and dumb". That's especially why I hated Eclipse so much. She basically whined for the entire book.

And another annoyance is something I like to call "The William Complex" which is a disease under 14 fangirls develop in which they turn a totally nice character with good qualities and a big heart into something hated. Of course I'm talking about Jacob. He's never done anything wrong and he's saved Bella's life like twice as much as Edward, but fangirls are like "NO! Pretty boys before good boys."

I'd personally rather have a dog than a mosquito -_-

In other news, Breaking Dawn is coming out today at midnight...which is actually tomorrow...whatever. Who's getting it?

I just want to see what happens in Breaking Dawn...if she becomes a "whiny, lucky, and dumb" vampire too.

Yeah, Jacob is so nice, and Edward's just a...well, there are some things I could say about him, but I don't think they're appropriate for this board.

Ulrich: What? Aelita curses?
Aelita: Uh, yeah! I get mad!

yeah, Edward is like -.- the whole time they're frolicking.

I haven't read the books, but my mother simply cannot put them down. She had to rush out to the nearest bookstore 10 minutes before it closed to get the third book in the series after finishing the first two. Allow me to quote my mother:
Lyoko422's Mother wrote:Just bite her, already!

I don't plan to read the books. Vampires just aren't my thing. I've always been into more science-fiction stuff. And the Twilight series, well, to be totally honest... it seems geared for the female crowd. And no offense to any male readers- reading the Twilight series doesn't make you any less manly. But a story about some girl and her relationships with some pretty boys and all their troubles (with vampires and werewolves thrown in) doesn't appeal to me. This coming from a homosexual who very much likes pretty boys.

To be honest, Twilight always sounded like something some romance obsessed teenage girl wrote and smacked onto FF.net that actually got PUBLISHED and SOLD somehow.

I haven't heard a single good thing about it, which is why I refuse to go near the books and even give it a chance. The recurring theme is 'the plot's good'. Normally if a book really WAS good, people would say WHY the plot is good and what makes it good. Haven't seen anything of the sort... not to mention I HATE the idea of a sparkly deadpan vampire chasing a girl and protecting her because she 'smells nice'. Seriously, it sounds like a bad fanfic gone wrong. <s>And it doesn't even sound kinky.</s>

... that and I've never heard of a media piece with vampires that was actually good.

Also, Persona 4 hasn't convinced me to read the books either:

> A ploddingly-written romantic comedy about a girl on her first day of school in a new town. Vampires are involved.
> ...
> The content of this book was almost physically painful for you to read.

[/direct quote from game]
