What's Your Favorite Punctuation Mark?

Postby Tangent128 » Sat Sep 06, 2008 11:34 pm

Let the overlooked but vital aspects of our character set get their day in the limelight!

Personally, I like the ampersand. So many ways to write it.
Fun fact: it started as a latin word: "et"; some versions of it still make that visible.
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

Anyone but I'll pick one.

It's hard to choose, I love punctuation! I could pick any but I'll pick just one.

I like the number sign which can also be used as the pound sign or sharp sign. See, it's so versatile! Even if you're #1, the # always comes first :tongue: .

Another favorite one is !. Obviously the most overused punctuation mark ever and easy to mistype too. I just laugh every time someone posts "OMG LOL!!!!1111".

The deadly accuracy of said statement frightens one such as myself.

For the sake of the topic, I enjoy abusing the semicolon; it looks cool; I could do this all day if I wanted to; I'm not going to.

Hmm... I would have to say my favorite is... the ellipses. That's the fancy name for "..." which is not just 3 periods, but a punctuation mark all its' own. I use them quite a lot, most likely because I make pauses and such like that in normal speech. It can also represent a shocked/awkward silence.

I have 3 favorites:

!!!!!!! - because I talk in it so much!
~~~~ - because it's so pretty *heart*
...... - because I put it in when I can't think of anything else to say...
^^
Speaking of the ellipsis, who pronounces it in real life? Me and some of my siblings will sometimes respond to something with "dot dot dot...".
I just sort of trail off awkwardly. But yeah. My favorite is the semicolon, cause it's not only a more better and sophisticated period, it also expresses confusion or embarassment in a smiley. 8D;
And I never knew that about ampersands! I thought they just sort of...came into existence.
I never really got the hang of the semicolon... I just sorta use it when Microsoft Word tells me to.
At times, for comedic purposes, I have been known to say "dot dot dot" aloud. But usually I just sorta trail off...
I guess the most common pronunciation for the ellipsis is when people talk and say "uhh…" in between words and sentences or long pauses. Kinda implies they've lost their train of thought. It's so annoying when I have to sit and listen to someone speaking and saying "uhh..." all the time.
I would have to say semicolon just cuz...well...it looks kewl. :P
Or probably the ellipsis...dang just thought of that. x.x Cuz that's probably the form of punctuation I use the most.
It's annoying when people think that it represents pauses so they never use a period and they abuse the ellipses.
Based on how often I use it, mine would have to be ... Ellipses are just so useful.
