YES! SEA KITTENS. Because fish are, quite obviously, felines! As if the English language weren't complicated enough, what with Sea Cows and Sea Lions... now we have Sea Kittens.
I'm going to be frank. I'm not terribly fond of PETA. Sometimes, I see their actions as inappropriate, sometimes I see them as annoying, but this is just plain stupidity on their part. This seems more like a cry for attention than a call to action. Attempting to rebrand fish as sea kittens is going to do nothing but make PETA more ridiculous in the eyes of the public.
No, not is is not. Hooking sea kittens through the mouth and dragging them through the water is a source of food. There are people on Earth who would have little to no food were it not for "sea kittens". Cats and kittens are not (usually) sources of food. Fish, on the other hand, are a staple in several civilized nations. We all know PETA wants everyone in the world to turn Vegan but that's not going to happen. Fish are food, not friends.
I'm not saying that fish aren't treated cruelly. Large-scale fish farms aren't exactly pleasant, or healthy, and over-fishing is a horrible detriment to the environment, as is whaling. But fishing provides jobs and puts food on the table and we can't just stop.
