quick art question

Postby matsumo itsu » Fri Jan 30, 2009 11:14 pm

Hey if you've been semi following my posts, you know i've recently picked up drawing, now my question for you, is. Is it possible to get better at drawing if you have no natural born talent? my sister says the only way to be good at it is by being born with the talent, i don't believe it, am i fooling myself or is it possible to get good. and i don't mean basic good i mean like great good, anime good.

You just have to practice. I have a slight amount of natural-born talent (see my dA) but I practiced and practiced and I'm a lot better now. Read lots of manga, watch lots of anime, and eventually you'll start picking up your own style.

Drawing is fun.

To be honest, I'm not too sure there's such a thing as natural talent... it's all a question of how much you like it, how much you're willing to do it, and, in a way, how much you're willing to deviate from what you think you should be doing to find ways to make the stuff look better and / or make it your own. I recommend not trying to imitate anything you've seen so far, just put the pencil to the paper and sketch out things as you want them to look. I say go for it... after all, you can only get better, not worse.

actually i learn best from looking, and some people like this kid i hate, can draw good, has always been able to, i on the other hand can't manage to draw decently, i used to draw about as good as a 1st grader, like my people that weren't stick figures looked worse than the stick figures, i'm just not good at it, that's why i copy and then create. cause when i learn how to draw something it stays in my head, i don't forget it, but if i figure it out on my own i can't recreate it. can't even remember how i did it.

oh my new current art work is at futuremangadrawer.deviantart.com, i'm going to upload all my stuff there, right now it's only manga eyes but pretty soon it will be people.

you can definitely draw even if you don't have natural talent. i know some people who just decided to start drawing after watching anime and reading manga. so it is very probable that you can improve your drawing skills. plus just remember your yur own worst critic. :)

that's actually very similar to me, and i am making progress, and honestly how fast i'm picking it up, i should be starting my first manga by my senior year in highschool. and i'm currently a freshman(for those who don't know this, freshman is ninth, senior is 12th, only saying since i know someone out there doesn't know, weather or not that person is on this forum i'm not sure)

Honestly just draw whatever. Take a scetch pad and go to the park, maybe just sit at home and draw random stuff. Talent is overrated, I've seen people with talent who don't do anything with it. It's all about hard work and believing in yourself. Believe in you who believes in yourself!

that is some pretty nice advice, i'm probably not going to go to the park and sketch, and i'm probably not going to stay at home and draw random stuff, probably draw as much of a person as i can and just keep adding to it. cause i'm learning to draw manga, and i'm already almost able to draw a full manga person.

well seeing as how I've actually changed my mind, seeing how it seems to be a dumb idea, and it appears to be a dumb idea, and being a manga drawer will be much easier.
