Getting rid of a cough

Hey anyone know a good way to get rid of a cough, i usually wouldn't ask since coughing isn't that bad, but recently it's gotten pretty bad. i don't mean like coughing often, i'm coughing really often constantly. like where i have to force myself to stop to breathe. so anyone know a good way to get rid of a cough. cause ricola's are Not helping.

i sort of found out what's been making the cough get worse, i recently had a cold so i took some medicine to get rid of it, it gets rid of coughing,nasal congestion, headaches, etc. and i found out the medicine says "talk to a doctor if the cough gets worse or lasts more than 7 days" so great i know what this means. doctor time/
