Can someone tell me, the real creator of William?

ive got someone on YT, saying he made it umm William Myers.
He said, it was some sort of contest in France back then.
He couldn't voice it, because umm, he couldn't go away there.

So plz say it to me. It is soo hard to believe someone, if ya already have encoutered that so many times

I'll admit, I had a bit of trouble understanding what you were asking so I apologize if my answer isn't at all helpful. ^^;

I believe you are confusing a contest that CL.com had about 4 years back that would allow one fan to be made into a character on CL. This was a very talked about contest at the time and many fans entered.

A winner was eventually chosen and made into a character who appeared in Season 2. However this character was not William Dunbar.

It was a character by the name of Michael Cheng, an incidental character who has a speaking role in "Cold War". You can read a thread about him here.


So, to answer your question hopefully, William was not a "fan-created" character (although there is the "Jin Conspiracy" but that's a whole other story ) nor a character based on any real life person.

That person at YT is pulling your leg and/or trolling. Michael Cheng was the only real life/fan-created character.

well because people saying it not having the proof to back it up make's them a frod... i have the artwork i scaned and sent to the lyoko team to have it put up for the contest... I'm sorry but that is completely ridiculous. This guy is either not quite right in the head and really believes this, or he's trolling.

TB3, another Admin here, would be able to verify this better but David Gasman was always the VA for William, and there was no character designer at Moonscoop by the name of William Myers or whatever he's saying his name is.

There was also only one contest that allowed a fan to become a character of CL and the winner of that was Michael Chang. It was at one point <i>thought</i> that William was the winner's character however we now know that to not be true.


I'd advise you not listen to anything more that person tells you because he clearly does not know what he's talking about.

Hi guys

The person in question is an absolute idiot and an egomaniac - he keeps claiming that he created William, which is an absolute falsity - the story he tells is that he came up with a character, named it William and emailled it to Moonscoop, who then added the character into the show - I will say this right now, this is not possible - Moonscoop would not use a fancharacter without some form of binding contract (if they had done it, he would have had grounds to sue them), and the possibility of this kid being asked to provide a voice to William is ridiculous - even if he was availible to do it, Moonscoop are not going to pay for this kid to go over to France and put in eight hours work, twice a week over a several month period, recording William's voice (that was the rough timescale in which the voicework was done)

I also know that episodes of CL were written and storyboarded years in advance of the episode in question airing, and based on animation timeframes, William was probably concieved, designed, and being animated in Shanghai before Season 1 finished airing in the US, long before this kid appeared on the scene. He honestly seems to think people will buy that the fancharacter he designed (and allegedly named after himself) was so awesomely perfect that Moonscoop rewrote massive chunks of Season 2 to incorporate it, and wished for him himself to provide the voice. This is his attempt at Gary-Stu self-insertion, and he absolutely refuses to back-down on it, or provide any proof beyond 'I say it, so it must be true'

He also hinges his story on a 'design a character' competition Moonscoop alledgedly held, and all of us here who are LONG-time fans of the show can confirm that such a competition never occured - if it did occur, at least one of us here would have known about it, and entered it

Don't bother trying to argue with him - his claims are ludicrous and he himself is ridiculous

You know it is possible that this person created in he e-mailed to moon scoop (please excuse me I'm using a voice recognition system and I have not exactly gotten it right yet) a character very much like William even with the same name, but that is just a coincidence, and a very big one at that, and while he may very well have, the William we know and love (in some cases) was not based off him and very likely did not take anything from him whatsoever.

It is very interesting the way you tell me TB three, that everything was written in advance. It is certainly interesting to know that, and it makes me think of some rumors that I have heard although I completely discredit them.

Although I'm not exactly seeing this guy, whether he did or did not make William (and the answer is the latter option) the very fact that he just keeps whining on about it is just... it just discredits him completely.

Sorry, not possible at all for the reasons TB3 listed. Moonscoop wouldn't risk a lawsuit like that, with evidence like an e-mail as well as a dated picture (neither of which this nut has anyway, but still). Moonscoop had fanart contests on the CL.com website but the prize for those was some cool CL gear, not characters in the show itself, because of the contracting issues that would have followed.

Like I posted before, there is only one true "fan character" in CL and that is Michael Cheng, who won a specific contest to have himself (not a fan-created character) placed in a CL episode (that one episode, being "Cold War").

No, what I'm saying is that it's possible he sent in a William-like character to MoonScoop, maybe even named William... but it would just be a coincidence and that they did not get their inspiration off him. That William was already created/they never saw the e-mail.
