I'm not allowed to download stuff.

if it's okay, I already started a chat room, it's really cool.

You can get to it here. Don't worry, we're the only ones on there and you don't have to register or anything. The times when we'll start brainstorming on it will be from 4:15 to whenever we want to stop chatting.

I'm sorry I can't go to your chatroom halo.
When you sign in just use your username as it is here.

IRC Chatroom from your browser, it's Java so we don't need to use the dumb HTML chatroom, because it sucks.

http://www.dynastynet.net/chat.php

Type in your desired username and in the second box type in projectXanadu
That will connect you to the IRC, no client required.

Here's the chatlog from the IRC chat.. unfortunately, the one JH made was evil and deleted everything useful... ;__;

Halospree13: Also, I think I know what we should make this in
Halospree13: So it's advanced programming and simple interface at same time
Halospree13: Truevision 3D
Halospree13: So we can use VC++
Halospree13: or VB
Halospree13: Or delphi.
Halospree13: But I"ve never used Delphi.
YD: i've never used any of them.. i'm just Assistant Thinker ^^;
Halospree13: Lol
Halospree13: I would have said Game Maker but then you would have said "no too simple (or babyish or something)

Halospree13: http://www.truevision3d.com/

YD: i was just about to ask for the website..
Halospree13: I thought you wer uberprogrammerman. That's how you kinda described yourself
Halospree13: Well then I can sefely suggest Game Maker ^_^
Halospree13: safely*
Halospree13: man I"m making so many typos today
mtd4949: no, i said i was familiar with certain languages
YD: meh... **still hasn't registered GM**
Halospree13: MEh, that's what I get for only skimming through stuff
mtd4949: i had a lot knowledge C, C++ and Java
mtd4949: but as my recent post has stated, not very familiar with GUIs and graphics
YD: we still might use C++... nothing's really official yet
Halospree13: Ah.
Halospree13: I think we should use C#.
YD: but that truevision thing might be easier
Halospree13: Ever heard of Torque Game engine?
YD: no
YD: lol
Halospree13: It's pretty close to C#.
Halospree13: and I pwn in Torque.
Halospree13: so therefor, in theory I would pwn in C#.
YD: and that is..? i feel like such a loser -__-;
Halospree13: Microsoft-developed programming language
Halospree13: don
Halospree13: don't feel like a loser
Halospree13: I didn't know alot of this either
Halospree13: ?You'll eventually get it but me and my GOD DAMNED TYPOS...
YD: oh! so we can say ms "sponsored" the first attemt at creating Lyoko. Great. I'm sure ol' Franz would LOVE to hear that :P
mtd4949: hoping whatever we choose to create lyoko is atleast self-learnable
YD: yeah me too (even though i'm probably not gonna be a programmer)
Halospree13: Ugh... I have no idea what sdk's to download
Halospree13: why can't microsoft be organized
mtd4949: im a quick study, so if its self-learnable, i can do atleast the basics
Halospree13: directx sdk...
Halospree13: now where's the VB and C# sdks...
YD: truevision looks pretty... oh are we using that? lol
Halospree13: idk

mtd4949: well, setting up an irc chat and telling about it like 5 mins before go time might hit them yet
Halospree13: lol
mtd4949: maybe its too much for just a bunch of ppl with free time to handle
YD: we're probably gonna be doing this over a long period of time.. so we might still be able to pull it off
mtd4949: well, i only have about 20 mins, before i go back to class, might aswell start getting familiar with the various programs you pointed me to
Halospree13: Lotsa SDKs and stuff needed
Halospree13: Download DirectX SDK, C# C++ VB and TrueVision3D
Halospree13: Just in case
Halospree13: Perhaps JH will agree
YD: maybe we should advertise the project a bit more.. i mean we probably just don't have enough people
mtd4949: maybe it was too soon to try and brainstorm
mtd4949: that and not a good time
Halospree13: Bad planning i guess
mtd4949: the day before thanksgiving
Halospree13: yeah really

YD: do you think we should have characters or should you just be looking at Lyoko?
Halospree13: First Person -> 3rd toggle

TB3: First thoughts by me - how big should XANADU be - all five sectors, or subtract Carthage?
YD: ok then.. before we were talking about using truevision3D (which includes VC++, Visual Basic, Delphi.. dunno what those are but yeah) for the programming language.. or Game Maker, but you have to pay to register for the "advanced" version of that...
YD: i think it should have carthage as an "unlockable" sector
TB3: Yeah but Carthage as something static or moving, dynamic, and basically HELL to program
Halospree13: looking for shoes
Halospree13: nah
Halospree13: will this be multiplayer
Halospree13: hotseat or network
YD: perhaps... still have to work out what exactly it "is"
Halospree13: k leaving now
Halospree13: wait
Halospree13: idea
Halospree13: jh said this isn't going to be a game
TB3: I reckon we should start with a single sector which you coudl explore with a 'flying' camera.
Halospree13: THEN WTF IS IT
Halospree13: It has to be a game
TB3: Once that's fixed, we could start working on the kids, and then enemies
Halospree13: and I want to use GM but it's probably too babyish for everyone and no one will register
Halospree13: but I could make some sweet ass shit on it
Halospree13: oh
TB3: I've gotta go for a few seconds and uninstall Trillian - be back in two ticks
Halospree13: k leaving now
YD: yeah.. like make it literally Lyoko and then add in the playable stuff
YD: ok
TB3: Yeah - which sector to start with?
YD: Polar.. probably easiest to make
TB3: Mountains are easiest probably
TB3: Glacier would be hardest with water and ice dynamics
YD: yeah mountains would proably be the best
YD: except for the mist and stuff..
TB3: Hmm...Desert. Lot of open plains with liberal scattering of rocks
YD: that could work
TB3: Definatly not forest with all the trees
YD: yeah.. it'd be a rendering nightmare >.<
TB3: But desert would work - and because most of the surfaces are either vertical or horizontal we could be quite creative
YD: ok, so i'll put that down as the first to start on (i'm taking notes ^^)
TB3: And I'm just throwing out ideas and listening to Harry Potter 4 OST
TB3: Next question
TB3: How big would the sector be - we don't have San Andreas size plans do we?
YD: it depends.. we should start off with just enough to cover a way tower and a regular one
TB3: So...an area about a quarter of a mile to a side?
YD: sounds about right
TB3: What scenic features?
TB3: Rocks?
TB3: Canyons?
TB3: Oasis?
TB3: Isolated plateu?
YD: all of those.. and if we're getting really fancy occasional dust storms
YD: *sand

TB3: Do you know what this is about ulrick?
ulrick13: I think so
TB3: So far we're talking about how to model a small area of the desert sector
ulrick13: OK
TB3: Any ideas?
ulrick13: hmmm...
YD: oo.. i just checked LF. JeremyHopper can't download anything so he made another chatroom. maybe we should switch over to there?

That's pretty much everything that's useful.. I had to chop it up and there are some exterraneous things in there but oh well. ^-^

Three-Point-Productions?

Random Guys With No Lives And Too Much Spare Time?

Random Guys With No Lives And Too Much Spare Time sounds about right, except that people would say that includes me, and I don't really analyse the technical side of Lyoko that much...

TB3 wrote:Official material shows the towers being organised in sqaures of nine, three to a side. Each square is tilted towards Carthage, makiing it a diamond shape. The tenth tower for each region lies on the straight line between the point and Carthage.

If this is a video-game, perhaps the 'interface' gauge should be in the bottom right and styled after the character's 'Player-Card.'

Also what would the objective be of each game?

Offical Material?

Have we made a definate decision on the language? M$ VC++ and VB and VC# won't install on my comp, so I can't use TrueVision 3D.

What now?

I'm currently going the tutorials with VB Express. Kinda hard to understand, I just went through the turtorial of how to make a landscape with part of it being underwater. So far, I have been using prefabricated media and not creations of my own. But by the looks of it, it seems that the lanscape, atmosphere, and water textures are just normal jpgs. Seems like the most interesting part is creating the height map, and to get a designer to create textures. But I'm still not completely clear on everything, so I'm not ready to begin programming yet.
