In a bid to rival TB3’s let’s talk tech tread and for me to move into CL discussion, I made this thread.

Have it your way

If you were responsible for a new series of CL, or a live action film, (in my dreams ) what changes would you make? Would you add or remove characters? Change the character’s personality? Alter the design of Lyoko, the factory or Kadic? Or would you totally invent the whole Code Lyoko universe?

I'd make XANA an ongoing virus that just moves to another computer but still wages attacks on other grounds.
That way they'd either have to get to lyoko a different way or create a kind of underground protection througout the world.

Back on topic

I would:
1. Alter Lyoko to a darker version like Xanadu in Garage kids
2. Increase the age of gang by at most 2 years
3. Reduce the capabilities of Xana by letting him only take control of certain electrical and mechanical devices (processing a teddy bear is a bit lame)
4. Think of different ways for the gang entering the factory. (Surely someone would notice them coming out of the manhole.)
5. Change the Lyoko outfits.

That all I can think of for now.

I agree with you on every point except the last one. Personally, I can't imagine them having Lyoko outfits different than those they have now, but then again, my imagination is rather limited. At any rate, I fully respect your opinion, and I can understand that perhaps some viewers might want change. To each his own...

I think the idea of making the gang older is a really good one. It would certainly make CL a rather more 'mature' show.

I also agree that reducing the capabilities of XANA would also be a good idea. Even if XANA could only take control of certain electrical and mechanical devices, he could still cause plenty of harm. On the other hand, the show might become a little too realistic for some. (In my fanfic, which takes place when the CL gang are all in their early 20s, XANA does have reduced capabiltiies.)

One thing I would change would be the environment, with regards to the people inhabiting the background. Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that when the main characters are in the city, there doesn't seem to many other people around. For example, in Temptation, when Yumi was biking through the city after the ambulance, the streets seemed to be completely empty. The school also seems to be slightly under-populated, but that's also just my personal opinion.

In the end, a more realistic XANA, slightly older characters, and a darker ambiance in general would definitely give CL a more gritty feel, something that I would prefer, which is reflected in the story I'm writing (no giant teddy bears, just organized crime, international crime syndicates, overworked intelligence agencies, and disappearing military hardware). Then again, that sort of stuff would really change CL's intended audience.

When I found out the ages for the gang, I was totally thrown off balance. Jeremie is only 12 (13 by the end of season 2)! Odd and Ulrich are 13 and Yumi 14. And in 'A bad turn' whey were placed in the front seat of a car! What kind of a psycho would do that! I'm 16 and only once drove TB3's car in a circle in a school playground!

The main reason for changing the ages was due to last year film 'Thunderbirds', with the main characters being kids, all whiny and awful! And all of them can be compared to the kids in CL. Fermat for instance, the know it all kid who wears glasses. Dye his hair blond and you got Jeremie. Alan, a show off (Odd) and has feelings for Tin-Tin (Yumi) but never makes a move on her (Ulrich)
And they made a GIGANTIC scar on the film.

Aging the CL characters would change the relationships with each other, like in the Harry Potter films, where in each film, Harry, Ron and Hermione evolve, and this made Goblet of Fire rock.

Now that I totally agree with you. CL is set in Paris, the biggest city in Europe and we barely see anyone. In my opinion, the reason why it was done like that is to show there is no one to be injured in XANA's attacks.

And with my darker approach to CL, I would have people actually dying an on regular basis to add to the dielima that the gang face.

Yeah, the gang driving a car was rather strange. Maybe things are just done differently in France.

And with my darker approach to CL, I would have people actually dying an on regular basis to add to the dielima that the gang face.

I would like a darker approach too. But that might be because I prefer realism to fantasy, when at all possible. The CL characters always getting saved at the last second by Aelita deactivating the towers is starting to get a little old. And for some reason, I also like the real world aspect of CL more than the virtual Lyoko aspect, even though the virtual fighting scenes are really cool (and have gotten better in the second season). But that's just my opinion...

Considering replaying Resident Evil 4 for the 3rd time...with the RPG with unlimited ammo (drool)

The CL characters always getting saved at the last second by Aelita deactivating the towers is starting to get a little old.

Tell me about it. The object that is about to kill a member of gang stops like 1 cm from their oversized foreheads. I would kill someone some one very close to the gang e.g. a parent(s), school friend(s), or teacher(s).

But on the issue of Yumi's brother and William, I would cut the annoy brat of a brother, but William, I would get rid of the concept of him try to woo Yumi. Just another passer by of the school that might get 3 minutes of importance.

On plot episodes, I would try to interlink them and have the gang making references to previous eps.

For Lyoko, I would only do few changes to the costume, like what they did for the Spiderman suit in the films. The towers would be like the f**king big ones in garage kids. The method of travelling between the sectors would be different, but I haven't decided how. The actual design would cross the design of Lyoko and Xanadu (had a lot of promise...in my opinion)

agreed. for someone who never watches the show enough to know the true sequence of the episodes, they would never have even the faintest clue of the sequence of the episodes. even subtle references to previous episodes would be fine.

Carrying on from what TB3 said:

1) Magma or Fire region, with lots of volcanic activity.

2) SMELLS. and maybe a few forms of wildlife outside XANA's monsters. Some friendly, some... hungry.

3) Xanadu.

Also:

- New monsters, including Gargolyes and a Stealth bobmber esque jet.

- a permanent physical human form for XANA (a mix of Jeremy and Aelita)

- Guest villians.

- Guest characters.

- A couple of new members for the active gang (say, Sissi and... um, the reporter girl)

- As I've suggested before, Kiwi in Lyoko

Personally, I would have XANA physical form as a mix of Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) from the Matrix, Henri Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul (Liam Neeson) from Batman Begins and Skynet from Terminator, with the single objective of staying ‘alive.’
