Questions: Life points on Lyoko...

Alright guys, I'm really sorry if this has been asked before. I tried several different searches and turned up nothing, so hopefully I'm not rehashing an old topic.

On Lyoko, the kids have life points, and Jeremie is always screaming at them about how many they have left. Well, what I saw tonight on one of the reruns got me thinking. Odd and Yumi ran out of life points pretty fast against some crabs. In other episodes, I've seen one of them run out and leave the scanner room to hang out with Jeremie. Why can't they just get back into the scanner and fight some more? Do they only get a certain number of points per day? I mean, couldn't they access Lyoko an infinite number of times, even within a limited amount of time, and start with a full set of life points each time upon re-entry?

It just bothered me that Yumi and Odd both ran out so soon and then Aelita was left to face the crab alone. <i>Then</i> I wondered what would happen if Aelita ran out of points. How many does she have? How does she replenish her points?

I realise that the answers may not be concrete, so if there isn't a straight answer, I'm interested in your theories.

you would probably want to dig through the "Lets talk tech" thread for a more in depth explanation. but the general consensus seems to be that while on Lyoko, their physical bodies do take stress from what happens on Lyoko and the life points are just a cautionary measure to make sure they dont go overboard and really cause harm to themselves.

Well to answer your questions, in the "Let's talk tech" thread, we currently have 2 theories about that. Our first was briefly summarized by Vchat.

Our second theory is that as a form of defense against intruders, possibly setup by Hopper in case anyone was ever to find his project, their avater was forcefully decompiled, which is visually shown by their avatars basically fragmenting. After decompiling, Jeremie would need to recompile their avatars again before they can enter. Basically, the same principles as the vehicles. They get destroyed, it takes time to recreate them. Same idea, except their avatars are much more complicated and thus take much more time. Of course this is all theory, and we can't give you a complete canon answer.

As for Aelita, in Season 1 and 2, devirtualization means death to her, thanks to that missing fragment revealed in The Key. In Season 1, she is able to replenish life points by resting in a tower, as shown in The Girl of the Dreams. In Season 2, she probably virtualizes full of life points during the virtualization process.

I <i>did</i> use the search option for "life points" and "points on lyoko" and everything that turned up, even with quotes around my search values, seemed to have nothing to do with answering my question. It was frustrating to see an entry from the Bush thread in the Rants forum, where someone had said "you made valid points."

I tried sifting through page-by-page, as well, but ended up bogged down in posts with titles like "question..." and "help me out", which are really rather vague.

I delved into the Tech thread and found it to be kind of confusing. The jargon went way over my head and I suspected life points were too trivial for that one, as you all seemed to be analyzing the time-space continuum and how the scanners work.

I was hesitent to make this post in the first place, as I hate to be one to cause trouble. Is there a better way to find posts through the search tool? I really must have spent twenty or thirty minutes looking for the answer before I finally made the post. I don't know about everyone else, but I just don't have that kind of spare time...

Anyway, thanks everyone for your answers! It really is wonderful to have people to discuss the show with. I'll try not to upset the balance in the future. :]
