My mom and her hats

Postby LadyChaos » Tue Jan 10, 2006 9:51 pm

This isn't really a rant, but this was the best category to put this under.
My mom had breast cancer, and because of the chemo she lost her hair. It's been awhile since the chemo and the radiation was over, and her hair has started to regrow. People keep telling her to quit wearing her hats now, but she won't do it.
Her hair is about 3/4 of an inch long. How do you convince someone that they look fine? That they don't look weird or anything?
We cannot get her to stop thinking that someone will think she is weird or doesn't look good because of how short her hair is. And telling her that people would think she had cancer and congratulate her on beating it won't help. She doesn't consider herself any sort of hero or anything for it. It was just one more annoying health problem to have to deal with.

Uh, a wig? Or maybe one of those supercute newsboy caps. Something that'll make her feel like the coolest thing since ice. Let her have her hat time until her hair is the length that she wishes. :D

Just leave it is my advice. I where a hat all the time, and if I were a girl I'd where it more (dumb archaic school rules).

I agree with bizznot, actually... She'll stop when she's ready.

And I'm so sorry to hear about her. My mother had breast cancer too and had to go through the same thing. She used to wear pretty scarves over her head. :) Unfortunately, now she's passed on.

Give your mother a hug or something for me, okay? ^__^
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

But I do love dancing.

My dad had canser last year, but he is better now! He lost all his hair from chemo, too. My dad still wears hats, more to keep his head warm though. Try taking her to a hair salon maybe you can come up with a brand new hair stile for short hair.

Snicker. No, she won't wear a wig; I already asked her.

Maybe that's why she won't quit wearing a hat, it's winter. Although you wouldn't really know it where I live, it's 56 degrees right now. Normal is in the 30s.
She wore her hair pretty short before the chemo so it's not like she couldn't figure out how she's supposed to wear or style short hair.

Sorry to hear about your mum, mine was lucky; they spotted the cancer really quickly. *hugs* :patpat:
My mom tried the scarf thing but it didn't really work so well.

I guess I'll just let her be with the whole hat thing until spring comes. By that point she won't have any reason to hide herself in the hats.

I'm really sorry to hear about your mum and everyone else's relitives, I'm going through the same thing myself at the moment, don't worry about the hats, they will fade, let her have time to get use to the way she looks, I'm in an orginisation for young people living with cancer and alot of people that I know parents or themselfs have worn hats, specialy the girls, they get over it after a while, she will get use to it, one day she will want to get rid of them, you just have to be there for her ^_^ anyway, give your mum a extra big hug for me! my prayers are with everyone who is going through this kinda of thing, all of you can feel free to PM or email me anytime!

IshiyamaYumi, I've noticed you necroposted in not one, but three rant threads. Please, don't do this again. All had not been replied to in at least a year, and in some cases, the members who created the threads no longer visit the forums.

It's all very scientifical. |D
