Aelita's dies and lives again anyway.

Do you notice that Aelita dies 4 times? Then in "Common Interest" I think it was 4 times. And 4+4=8 But she ends up living again anyway.

Including season 1.

It was actually 3 times in Common Interest. So I believe the 4 other occurences you're referring to would be Just in Time, False Start, and 2 time in The Key. Though, with the exception of Just in Time, none of them are actually true deaths. More like cardiac arrest or some sort of heart failure, in which her heart stops beating properly meaning a loss of blood flow (though I can't say much for the final "death" in The Key).

Though she would be clinically dead, it wasn't really actual death. Actually, in certain European countries, stopping a heart from beating and stopping blow flow is part of heart surgery. Instead of certain countries where they use an artificial pump to keep blood flowing, they cover you in ice until your body reaches hypothermia. So for 1-2 hrs, you are, by clinical definition, dead.

I might be invoking controversy here but it's also kinda nice biblical imagery.

Aelita - the only begotten child of Lyoko's creator, dies and comes back to life in 'The Key' - and with her ressurection comes the salvation of Lyoko.

That's real hard-line imagery there and I'd like to stress I'm not a bible-bashing conservative - that's just what it looks like from where I am. Aelita also collapsed into a vaguely cross-like shape.

Yeah... I didn't think she ever actually "died" at all. In The Key, I suppose she did, since Jeremie said it himself... I don't remember exactly why though. The Schyphozoa took her Keys and then... what? Why would that cause her to die? I thought it was her death that shut down Carthage, not XANA. But then I could be mistaken. But technically she couldn't have, since while on Lyoko, you're not really "alive" in medical terms, since your body is destroyed and you're living as a bunch of brainwaves being simulated on a computer. But then that comes to the age-old question, "what is 'life,' anyway?" Is XANA alive because he has thought processes? Was Aelita alive for 12 years of her life, or are any of the gang when they're on Lyoko? Are they dead? Are they simply non-living?

I'm not saying that's wrong. Their bodies are destroyed, so they aren't really existing without the mind...

Hmm. That's certainly thought-provoking. Technically speaking, they all "die" every time they got to Lyoko, and are "born" when they exit....

I tried to keep track of how many times Aelita died in the second season, but I couldn't. Missed too many eps. I think she's surpassing comics!Jean, but I'm not sure...

well, i cant say that the bodies are destroyed, because we have no actual proof that they're gone. for all we know, the bodies could have been "taken apart" and stored somewhere until the host is devirtualized. And the meaning of the word die, means " To cease living; become dead; expire." but since they are still "alive" in lyoko, they are not truly dead. and to be reborn would pretty much be coming back to life. But can a person come back to life when they are already alive?
