Episode idea: Power Loss (Odd-focused episode)

I can't wait to see little Odd eating his mommy's watercolor paint. That's gonna be so cute.

We could also see Odd as a baby, playing with the paints and making a small pingerpainting thing and his parents putting it up on the fridge... or something along those lines.

We've gone through Odd's side of the story, but has anyone thought about what XANA's been up to?

Jeremie soon theorizes that Odd's energy has been sent to Sector 5. But shortly after, a boy of around Jeremie's age mysteriously appears.

Did you rule out Taelia's idea of the mysterious little boy?
I thought it could be the physical XANA and that he could go around the dorms at night sucking more energy from people, but being careful not to take too much as not to arise suspicion. People would wake up feeling badly rested but putting it off as just a bad night of uncomfortable resting and nothing more.
That way he'd be getting his energy but maintaining a cover that the team would most likely never question until it was too late.
What do you guys think?

Okay, I'll come clean.

The idea I have is that during S2 XANA posessed a former member of Hopper's team, who went into hiding after leaving Carthage to prevent discovery.

This man, Gene Mordecai, wrote much of the software that later was used by Franz to build Lyoko, and now is the reclusive CEO of Confederated Computers, a company now developing...wait for it...Quantum Supercomputers.

XANA's new home is in Confederated's prototype Quantum Network, and he aspires to control the world via the internet. However to operate to his full potential he needs a Lyoko-esque virtual environment - his program was designed to operate through one and without it his power is limited. He also wants to destroy all previous evidence of his existance, lest someone find a way to destroy him.

Therefore through the virtual season XANA is doing several things - he's keeping the kids distracted so they don't start hunting for his new location, he's using Gene to program a new virtual world within Confederated's Network (XANADU), and he's hunting down everyone and anyone who could possibly hinder him.

One of these persons is General Matthew Della-Robbia - once a captain working for Carthage, friend of Franz Hopper and possessor of the command codes necessary to unlock the supercomputer and reveal what remains of XANA within it - with this data Jeremie could create a internet-based program to seek and destroy all elements of XANA, were he to release himself world-wide.

Matthew was also the man who unknowingly saved Aelita's life on June 6th 1994 - tracing Hopper and his daughter to the factory solo (as he was the one ordered to track down the Hoppers), it was HE who shut the supercomputer down, stopping XANA's memory-drain of Aelita, and it was he who lied to his superiors - stating that the Hoppers simply vanished, and never revealing the existance of the supercompter, which he left to gather dust until the kids turned it back on.

How's that for a conspiracy?

How did he transfer all his data from the supercomputer to this new guy? is it just going to be a regular possesion or something new more impressive? like completely reformatting this guy and dowloading himself into the new empty brain?


I take it you're gonna have at some point late in the season, (or even leading into next season) Jeremy find this new world XANADU and send the team to fight XANA in his new world?

Yup - for the climax the action will shift to XANADU!

As for Gene (29, red hair, handsome, genius programmer), through Season 2 he's been building the new computer and XANA is now held in t - however without the necessary programming XANA can't make attacks or communicate - therefore part of the posession was to permentantly bind Gene to the computer against his will (he's a good man and thus this story-arc is a kind of tragedy for him), and via Gene he is able to keep in touch with the outide world.

Attacks on the kids are still stemming from Lyoko where XANA still has a presence, but now the kids can't shut the computer down for fear of loosing Franz, who they are searching through the computer for.

No wonder Odd has a crush on Aelita. His daddy saved her life, so she kinda sees Matthew's courage in his own son.

I just came up with another memory for Odd, too. It's when he has to go to Kadic for the first time, and he's very sad.

ODD: I don't wanna go to boarding school, Daddy. I'm scared. Everyone might hate me.

MATTHEW: Don't worry, Odd. You can always call us any time. And you'll make lots of friends. Kiwi can come with you too.

PENNY: Your father's right, Odd. And we'll always love you.

ODD: I love you, Mommy, Daddy.

D'you guys like the ideas, because if it sounds like I'm carmming fan-chars like Matt and Gene down your throats I assure you they would only be in a handful of episodes - the focus is and always will be on the kids.

I thought of introduce Gene in the first episode - his company has sponsired Kadic's new computer lab and he's the one cutting the ribbon - at this point I want to sell him as a nice-guy, even though he IS XANA.

While in 2026 the kids learn XANA look over the world by spreading over the internet (thye don't know how he did it though), and Jeremie in the past decides to fight this he has to make an counter-program built on the anti-virus he was developing for Aelita;

ULRICH: You wanna try and debug the internet?
JEREMIE: Yes, but it's not as hard as it sounds - my antivirus was designed to identify elements in Aelita's body that should not be present, and with a lot of work the same could be used to scrub XANA out should he try to infect the net.
YUMI: But how would you get people to install it on their computers?
ODD: Yeah Einstein - people don't just install stuff that appears in their email - smart people that is. The only way you could get them to would be to...
AELITA:...Tell the world about Lyoko and XANA.
(silence)
JEREMIE: It's a last resort guys - if I work fast enough we could identify wherever XANA's located himself and then purge that before he could spread globally.
(he rubs his glasses)
JEREMIE: But to modify the antivirus I need more data on XANA than we can get from Sector 5 - and for that...
AELITA:...We need my father.

As for other things - my computer froze on me before I could finish the script extract I was writing;

AELITA: We need my father
JEREMIE: Or a genius in Quantum domputers
YUMI: Uh, I could help
(they all look at her with stunned expressions)
YUMI: NOT ME! That guy at school today - Doctor Mordecai, well my dad's been offered a position as a manager with his company - directly under the CEO.
JEREMIE: That's...convenient.

I want to build on the idea of the kids trusting Gene - they don't tell him about Lyoko but he quite pleasantly listens to Jeremie's questions about advanced programming and supplying him with information - never quite enough though.

I also had an idea about how an episode could be written about this - Jeremie visits Gene at Confederated and there's no mobile-phone reception in the building, and then XANA attacks the kids back at Kadic, trapping them - and they can't get through to Jeremie for help.

Oh! Well Matthew was a captain in the 7th Engineering Batallion and used to be an private next to Jim (who left the corps after an accident which gave him mild shock and left a scar on his left cheek) - when Project Carthage came under military control (say 1986) Matt's batallion was attatched to the project to act as an engineering element - building and field-testing the devices developed.

Matt became friends with Hopper over the next few years and thus when Hopper ran off Matt was assigned to lead the agents in persuit of him (his knowledge of the target was intended to help) - however Matt sympathised with Franz and did his best to slow the hunt as much as possible without making it appear so.

Check up just a bit - Matt was involved with Project Carthage (wherever that was), not Lyoko or the factory.

What he did do was realise that Franz and Aelita had gone through the scanners, saw they were in trouble and did the only thing he could to save them - he pulled the plug.

And if anyone's interested I wrote a long piece of prose introducing Matt and Gene, shall I post it somewhere?

I never really planned much for Penny sice she didn't feature in the plot I'd drafted - however since she's in the flashbacks go wild!

Oh, and here's the first extract - I'll put Matt's up if you like it (I wrote this a while ago so it might need a tweak or two).

Odd shouldered his way between the massing figures waiting around or sitting on the laid out chairs for the coming speeches and ribbon-cutting, trying to navigate a barrage of backslaps, cheers and compliments that soon left his body and ears very sore.
