No, this was the episode 'The Key', taken direct from Franz's video-diary. Hopper did build Lyoko as part of his plan to 'destroy Carthage.'

"So i built the supercomputer, created lyoko and last of all Xana" I dont really remember what I wrote before. and yes TB3 he built it to destroy carthage. But all I wanted to say is, i dont know i swore it said like XANA built carthage, so yeah i just read it wrong or something.

Ok and in the french version i think it means Garage Kids and aelita isnt even in that one.

The French version is NOT Garage Kids; Garage Kids is the five minute pilot not aired on TV, and its original language. Code Lyoko IS the original French version, as well as our own dubbed English one. Garage Kids was never seen in French, just clearing things up for ya :3

As for XANA well... Like other people, I always thought he was a program programmed to destroy Carthage, and within the seven year timeframe Franz was RTTPing like a madman, XANA either a)became infected with some sort of malicious virus (and scarily enough, there IS a virus called "xandu", which is a misspelling of xanadu, which was discovered not too long after the Hopper incident), or b)gained sentience and power from all the RTTPs, since he is, in a way, a part of the computer, so continually gaining power like that and rebelling was basically inevitable, I guess.

OMG I KNOW IT'S A MIRACLE! :O

xD Just kidding, of course.

Uh... actually... CL is written in English and translated into French (I think.. well I'm pretty sure Mr. Geczy said everything was done in English first at least), and I think there actually was a French GK, though I'm not 100% sure since I've never seen it. The kids' accents are so bad though, it's hard to believe that was the only one ^^

The "English to French back to English", I think has to do with the dubbing, not the scripts. LyokoCode has the original seaosn 1 scripts in French available to read.

As for Garage Kids, there may have been a French version as well, but it has never appeared online. :)

I think one thing that causes short-circuits in many viewer's minds is that in the show there appear to be TWO Carthages.

1. PROJECT CARTHAGE - we know this was active in 1974 and that Franz was a member of it (the end credits suggests his name at the time was Waldo Schaeffer) - for some reason during the next 20 years Franz came into conflict with the Project heads and left. My pet theory is that Franz originally developed his advanced technologies under the project in it's early years. As time went by however the Project began to rely more and more on the military for funding and of course any projects were turned to weaponary functions - Franz probably hated the idea of his goals, inventions and dreams being warped to the aim of killing people.

Subsequently Franz abandoned the Project (he probably ran away and hid from the government, adopting the name of Franz Hopper) and then developed the Lyokoan technology, Lyoko and XANA to destroy Project Carthage's data-banks and possibly physical hardware, in effect terminating the Project.

'The Key' suggests the Project was intended to block enemy communications which seems very unambitious, so I assume Jeremie cut Franz off before he launched into a long list of the Project's goals.

2. CARTHAGE - SECTOR 5 - at this point the 5th sector appears to have no connection to the Carthage Project - remember aside from the password prompt it's always referred to as Sector 5. Most likely Franz picked the name as a jab at the Project, and also because of his fondness for the Punic wars and also the analogy of both Sector 5 and the city of Carthage being highly defended fortresses.

------------

So remember, whenever references are made in the show to 'Carthage', remember the dual context.

And no, XANA did not create Carthage (sector 5). It's said that he 'lives' there but most likely Franz designed Carthage (sector 5) to guard the access to the core system databases/mainframes as well as a visualisation of that data - as part of the system core XANA would be included in the data located in Sector 5.

Hope this helps and that it didn't sound too arrogant.

Code Lyoko is written in French. You can tell because the supercomputer is sometimes called the supercalculator because in French, supercomputer is "supercalculateur."

Oh. My. Gawd. I can't believe how funny that was!

A Lyokon would be described as someone who visits Lyoko. Simple.

But that was a very good explanation.

The thing is there is no definitive term - some have included;

Lyokan (my personal preference)
Lyokian
Lyokon

And to lay the whole 'Written in Frence or English' bit to rest here's the explanation as given by the VAs.

Code: Lyoko is written in French and the dialogue is recorded when the animation is finished. However the Animators in Hong Kong (that's where the 2D animation is produced) and the French 3D animators need an audio track to base the mouth movements off.

In Season One a quickly-made French audio performance of the script was used.

In Season Two Barbara Scaff and a male actor recorded an English dub to ship to Hong Kong and base the animation off - this is why the lip/voice syncronisation is better in S2 than S1. The reason was most likely the massive fanbase Code: Lyoko developed in the US with S1's release.

In both cases once the animation was complete it was shipped back to Paris and the professional dubs recorded in English, French and the other languages (possibly for other languages recordings are done in the native countries).

At this time Barbara is unsure of whether S3's animation will be based off an English or French recording.
