Selling out?

Postby Darkness Incarnate » Tue Mar 21, 2006 2:31 pm

I just wanted to know if it was just me but why is it that when there is a small band or group that only has a few fans get big they are selling out. I think that most kids like the ones in the high school I went to think if you like a small time group that no one knows about your cool but when other people hear them and think there good they are sell outs. I think that stupid, and wanted you guys to tell me what you think?

Judging a band as a "sell-out" is rude. I personally don't see why people call a band that. Only if they've been talking about how bad the record industry and big name labels are, and then accept a big deal with one. Otherwise, I don't see why you would call a band a "sell-out" just because they got a bunch more fans.

It is cool when you're a fan of a band when they're small-time. Like you're the only ones who know about them. But in these days, it's hard to have that. Bands get greedy.

Some bands, like Pearl Jam, have a big fan base, but don't sell a lot of records. And when was the last time you saw a new Pearl Jam video?

Also, think of the Grateful Dead. They were a major band, that did tons of concerts, and had very devoted fans. But they never made a video until "Touch of Grey". The older fans that had been with the band since their beginning hated the people who became fans after the video. I don't know what those fans said about the band, but you get an idea of fan reaction to people who suddenly become fans of a band.
not gonna bother coming back
