The Reporter Girls

Okay... this might seem like a very stupid question, but are Millie and Tamiya really official school news reporters?

'Cause I don't seem to find suich evidence which proves so... also, I've seen some points on them doing this and seeing that it bugs many people.

Are they legal reporters for the school, or they're just doing this on purpose for some weird reason (would be weird if they do it for themselves for practicing to be journalists, especially having Tamiya going around with the camera)?

We see them getting ditched or bugged by people.

And I've never seen Mr. Delmas saying anything about Millie and Tamiya doing the school news reports, or saying something against it.

Well, Mrs. Hertz seem to acknowledge their status as school reporters in New Order. If they were just playing, this could of been grounds for discipline. Also, if they were just playing, they do have a lot of resources for 5th (or 6th) grade girls playing make-believe. They are able to get out a newspaper using newprint paper, that would take a lot of money to fund for a school wide paper as well as a long time to write and print on a consistent basis. Also add to the fact that they also seem to have a large mic (either a boom mic or a stand up mic) for recording, and if this is just little game, its a well-made one.

I see your points, animenologists.

She told them to stop once and they did. I wonder if they would have insisted, how would the consequences end up? Revealing it's a made-game by both girls or taking off their license for news reporting?

And the large mic thing... go ask the CL cartoon designers.

I believe that the reason why people ditch them and otherwise try to ignore them, for the same reasons most people try to ditch or avoid the press though. ;)

I think Milly and Tamiya answer to Jim though, over the News Report, which would explain why Mr. Delmas doesn't have to involve himself too much. I think Jim may be the director of activities or something since in "TeddyGozilla" Tamiya mentions that Jim says they don't have to hand in there report until after the dance. Jim also later, after catching them near the garden shed, tells them that news report or not, they're grounded to their rooms.

They're definitely official reporters for the school if they have to hand in their reports to a teacher (Jim) and the other teachers acknowledge their status as reporters like animenologist said, I think. ^^

They are extremely nosy, but I guess they have to have some sort of story for the paper to continue printing. I would hate for Tamiya to be sticking that camera so close to me. Milly shoves the microphone in the peoples faces. That would annoy me as well.

In my eyes their just having fun being reports although it can get very annoying when you want to be alone and their on your tail asking question after question. *In my mind their like stalkers*

And we see countless times that Sissi doesn't want anything to do with them. Shooting them down anythime she sees the chance. Yes they are annoying and bothersome but you have to give credit that they don't give up until the story is done. *Although that might not be a good thing*

Dedication to their news report is good..but stalking people and being extremely intrusive is definitely a bad thing, Ask someone if they feel like answering questions, dont just go up to them and start playing 20 questions with them.

Here is An Article of the Two Girls from codelyoko.net

These two girls of 6th, not quite large, are confused of admiration for our heroes, whom they venerate like their clean elder. They represent an example to be followed, and they would like to resemble to them later. Of rather close nature, their common points are numerous. However, Milly seems more unconscious, more intrepid, even more "gamine" that his/her Tamiya friend, who more reasonable and is reserved all the same. In general, their relationship with the four accomplices is rather good: they get along particularly well with Odd, which is closer to them by its temperament player and childish, and trust Yumi towards which they know that they will be able to be always turned where necessary. As apparently much of girls of Kadic, the two friends, and initially Milly, test more than of admiration for Ulrich, who represents for them the ideal boy: large, extremely, beautiful and intelligent. It would seem that only the great difference in age between them and Ulrich could possibly make them give up the dream to have this one like boy friend, without that preventing Milly from choosing this one like rider for the ball of the college ("Teddygodzilla"), attracting itself by the same occasion the lightnings of Sissi particularly jealous. Look question, they are vêtues tendency, à.la.mode girls of their age, but despite everything in a more aesthetic and advanced way that the pimpante girl of the headmaster, being dissociated from it by their style more adapted to their personality. Still at the beginning of adolescence, these two girls try to dissociate the their similar ones while trying to adopt a temperament of "large", more mature. For this purpose, these two particularly active and inventive friends invest themselves much in community life with the college, by taking part in the workshop "newspaper". Indeed, they hold the "Echoes of Kadic", school publication which is made the echo of all the demonstrations and events interesting with the college (sporting tournaments, festivals, exposures...), even sometimes of the gossip of playground which could not escape curiosity from the two grass journalists. By means of their camera and of video camera, they track "information" in its little cuttings off, which has the gift particularly to return them per moments agaçantes for our heroes who would like to act incognito, without paparazzis which tracks them almost (although both apprenties journalists do not have any suspicion with regard to their friends). Their youth and their curiosity make them well too carefree, which is their greater notable defect. At the time of the attacks of Xana to the college, they have the knack to be lined in "dirty cloths", which makes them particularly vulnerable, as in the episode "Of a hair" where they had been made wedge in the college breaking down, owe their safety only with the intervention in-extremis Odd. All both, and particularly Milly, are the enemy ones sworn of Sissi, which does not miss an occasion to lower them or to ridicule them because of their youth and their natural naivety, reproaching them by the same occasion to interfere themselves what does not look at them or to be interested of too close in Ulrich, wanting to keep for it - only "exclusiveness". This ungrateful attitude and often wounding is not worth to him best publicity in the newspaper of the college, quite to the contrary.

Now who here remembers the end of "A Fine Mess"?

You know, when Yumi was reading the school paper, and found the centre spread picture of "her" and Ulrich that was taken by Tamiya?

The school paper is real.

When Sissi blackmailed Ulrich in "Log Book" (season one), she threatened Ulrich that the whole school would know what's in his diary. When Yumi blackmailed Sissi later in the episode, however, she told Sissy "all your dirty little secrets will be on the front page of the school paper!" Sissy had access to the grapevine, but Yumi had access to the reporters, who would gladly print anything that would knock their perennial tormentor down a peg or two.

Remember Milly and Tamiya also printed up a broadsheet newspaper in 'A Fine Mess' so obviously they have access to some high-end printing facilities, implying they have the school's backing.

As an aside, this pair are like my favourite characters outside of the core cast - Milly in particular I find endearing - especially when she tries to assert their rights as members of the press! :D

The first character those that followed from the beginning ever saw was Milly, and her image was upside-down at the time.

The characters are introduced in this order:

Milly
Tamiya
Sissi
Sissi's henchmen (Nicholas and Herb, although I don't think their names are mentioned in the first episode)
Ulrich
Yumi
Odd
Jeremy
Aelita
XANA
Jim
The Principal (name not mentioned in Season One)
The Roachsters
The Megatank

no...the names are not mentioned for sissi's gang...although I think they are mentioned within the next episode at some point.

Good point about Log Book though, which definitely shows they are official as far as the paper goes, despite being very young.

Milly and Tamiya though are probably not the only students on the paper. More they're probably two of the major reporters for it, and an upper classman is in charge of editing and printing. This is usually how papers work in most schools. Most anyone of any age can work on the paper, but editing and such are left to upper classmen or the teachers (since they will usually have better grammar and more experience). :)

It is rather funny that we meet Milly and Tamiya first and then Sissi and her gang before any of the actual main characters of the show... ;)

True Mewberries, and that makes perfect sense. In most shows we meet the main characters first, but here, everything is mixed around, which can be good as far as not following the same old pattern. Im guessing the paper is edited by 9th graders, since Milly and Tamiya are only in 6th grade. Our high school newspaper had someone from every year working on it...sorta like teams, each pair of people 2 people per team, had a certain duty, filming, documenting, printing, and so on, and it ran very smoothly. I can only speculate that this is sorta how Kadic works.

I believe I one time made a passing comment about Milly and Tamiya not being the only school reporters in the thread asking whether there should of been a new character a few days ago. My college paper has a staff of atleast 50 students, and their paper is not as thick as the one implied by the paper shown in "A Fine Mess", nor do they have to worry about the nuances of a tv news report. If college students with a budget and school backing can't do it with 50 students, no way Milly and Tamiya can bring out a similar quality paper and a news program with just the two of them on a 5th (or 6th) grade students budget.

Actually I could probably name a hand full of action oriented shows where the main characters are not the first ones introduced. Superman: TAS, Ben 10, Road Rovers, certain animes, Megas XLR (didn't bring in Coop for a good time), the Tick showcased a few heroes before actually bringing him in, Xiaolin Showdown showed off Jack Spicer before the actual warriors. A few shows like to set some kind of mood or suspense or background before actually getting to the real gang, so having them not be the first people on stage is not unheard of or uncommon.

I believe they actually are reporters because on one episode they are recording for an article in the school paper.

Thanks, I knew it had something to do with gravity...

Milly and Tamiya actually did a good job in that one, without actually being too annoying.

Apparently They Go Nuts over Odd Too, Seeing how he was able to get every girl in the school to like him.

But I stand by that they're not pretending, Or they wouldn't have bothered in Sneeking into Yumi's Classroom, and looking at the Armor.
