"Gotta go! Gotta go! Ho ho! Set sail for One Piece, it's of the treasure in the GRAAAAAAAAND LINE!"

Hehe - I love that song even if I hate the show.

And I'd like to say, I just watched the final episode of the Quack Anime EXCEL SAGA and it's like someone took BKO and animated it! I kid not - violence, sex, perversion and copyright infringement! LOL! :*D

Excel Saga is great the first time through, but the fast-talking (English or Japanese) gets a bit old.

Like I said - the last episode is the wackiest!

The series ended with ep 25 - but a 26th ep was made where the script-writers and animators were given permission to do whatever they liked and hang the censors! :D

I'd go into further detail, but I'd be banned from LF - heck for some of this stuff I'd get banned even if I said it in BKO!

I don't think you even know what you're talking about, sorry if I sound mean, but I think you're just posting to get a response - Excel never had an episode #36.

REQUEST OF ANYONE WITH BROADBAND.

If you've watched AMV Hell 3, please watch the clip which starts at 26 minutes, 31 seconds. It's very short but whoever is talking is a dead ringer for David Gasman;

"Bow to your sensei - BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!"

Can you please check it out for yourself - Cheers! :)

What I meant was the 'Sensei' guy sounds just like David Gasman, and I wondered if anyone else noticed it.

On another subject, I just watched the 1988 anime film AKIRA and noticed three elements which seem to have influenced CL.

1. One scene involves a hallucination of a gigantic Teddy-bear on a rampage - not only is the concept the same but the bear is a dead ringer for Milly's.

2. Another scene involves characters being fired on by a space-based laser weapon. Yumi?

3. At the very end the city of Neo-Tokyo is swallowed in a giant half-sphere of white light - not only does this sound like an RTTP but CL seems to have copied a screenshot of several skyscapers being consumed by the ball.

Has anyone else noticed similar elements in other classic shows or films?

...Now, no offense, but think real hard before you start using words like "copied." I don't think the staff at Moonscoop would appreciate it if you accused them of plagiarism. Similar, perhaps. Influenced, perhaps. But CL is definitely original.

Hmm.. I can't think of any movies really that have the same effect with reminding me of CL. The things you've mentioned from AKIRA seem very interesting, though. Maybe I should see it? ^^;

I literally meant 'copied' in that the shot is indentical to that in CL - the white half-sphere enters from stage right and swallows up a set of tall buildings. I don't however see it as plagarism on the part of Antefilms - more like a homage.

And I just found a screencap of the shot in question - tell me this does not resemble CL.

As for the teddybear - here is the only shot I have of it - it's slightly different to Milly's because it's meant to be a nightmarish vision, but the concept and basic shape - also at the very beginning when it was just a normal teddy it was a dead copy of Milly's - again I see this as inspiration and homage, not as theft.

I totally agree. The homage trend extends to other areas of CL as well - the principal being a Hayao Miyazaki look-alike, and the Totor plushie in Yumi's room. It is obvious that the writers/animators (wasn't the show animated in China or Korea for awhile?) are anime fans, if not die-hard otaku. They do not rip-off other shows, per se, but they follow a long tradition of people being "influenced" by the work of others. It has been happening in the literary world since the GReeks and Romans stole scenes out of each others' plays and changed characters names.

Sorry for the ramble; it IS 4:30 am after all.

As to continue the discussion of some great anime series since I've notice a lot of Azu, fans I recommend the "male equivilant" to the show which is Cromartie High School. The show revolves around a bunch of high school drop outs who go to a school along with a robot and a guy who looks a lot like Freddy Mercury from Queen. The episodes are humor driven and there's no fan service of any kind or hidden messages. Just good ole fashioned jokes.

Right, Neo here. Now that Mew has been so kind as to close the old thread, I re-present myself. Basically, I'm looking for something good to watch/read. I've seen Love Hina, Abenobashi, .hack//SIGN and Legend of the Twilight, Chobits, and Angelic Layer; the last two were the ones I liked the best. I have read some of .hack//Legend of the Twilight.

So, does anyone have any suggestions on what to watch/read next? So far most of the response I got was Azumanga Daioh, and that's about it. Any other stuff?

Uhh, well if you're liking Angelic Layer (are you reading it or watching it?), then I would suggest Magic Knight Rayearth xD; Read it though, out of the manga, OVA, and the anime, I'd say that the manga is best... Also Hikaru's name origin and the manga that Misaki was reading on the train to Tokyo is MKR, hehe xD;

Oh yeah, people were talking about how some endings of series made them cry... Well, the end of Azumanga made me sad a bit... but nothing really ever made me cry xD;; Unless you count Tales of Symphonia... it's a video game, but it almost made me cry like twice xD; omg. But it has a manga, and I've got the first volume... so hehe! >3

Whoa, back up a step! When did ToS get a manga!? I want it!!

Anyway, just finished watching Angelic Layer (why do all CLAMP series have sad endings!?), so I'll look for Rayearth next.

xD;; If you're talking about Angelic Layer, then they never tell where Hikaru's name came from, otherwise, it would have been in the very first episode.

No, I'm not going to make you get that! :P But the day you can read Japanese and you've finished the game at least twice... then maybe...

I'm now obsessed with "Mahou sensei Negima", by Ken Astsuma. I've got the first issue, but I'm gonna buy 2-5 as a birthday present from my mammaw. Negi and Nagi are a hot couple of wizards!!

I started reading this recently as well, what I really like is that it's a great manga, with a Welsh hero in the form of Negi - yay! National Pride! :D (negi is actually the japanese word for 'Welsh Onions'!)

I also dig the setting of Mahora Academy - I mean, an academic CITY! Kewl! 8) - and Asuna and the other girls are HAWT! ;)
